It is therefore important to take steps to reduce the risk of health issues as a result of a mosquito bite.
Avoid standing water
A natural way of reducing the prospect of mosquitoes being attracted to your garden in the first place, is to ensure that you donโt offer conditions that are attractive to them.
If you have a pnd or a birdbath in your garden, you should be aware that anything that is holding still or stagnant water, will prove irresistible to mosquitoes, so get rid of the water if you can, or install a pump so that the water is circulated and is kept clean.
Some plants can help
There a number of plants that you can use in your yard that will look great but serve a good purpose too, in helping to deter mosquitoes.
Lavender, marigolds and catmint, are three examples of plants that have natural mosquito-repellent qualities.
Citronella is another popular choice. It is one of the most common ingredients used in mosquito repellents and the citronella candles are universally used to keep mosquitoes away, but you can also buy the citronella plant itself, which will give off a much stronger aroma than some of the products that contain it, so it makes an excellent natural choice.
Air curtains and traps
Commercial premises have been using air curtains for some time, to keep mosquitoes away and allow customers to avoid being bitten, and they are now available for use in residential outdoor spaces.
Installation and maintenance of these curtain systems is relatively easy and their noise level is not that intrusive. The cost of one of these systems could prove prohibitive, so you could also consider the option of a portable mosquito magnet trap.
One unit should provide ample protection for your property and it works by enticing mosquitoes into a trap.
