We all have our fond childhood memories, and as a parent we want our children to be able to look back later in life and have the same. So why not try some of the following ideas to give your child some unforgettable moments they can look back on.
Save the Keepsakes
The most obvious idea is to keep some form of memorabilia for your child. There are obviously some times of our life that are a little too early to remember, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have any precious items from them. It may be that you choose to keep their childhood blanket or teddy bear, something that they once treasured. You’ll be able to give them keepsakes of a time before they can remember to bolster their memories of growing up. There are lots of ideas for keepsakes, but the most important thing is making sure it’s personal.
Give Them the Gift of Stories and Poems
We all remember that bedtime story or poem we used to love as a kid. Whether it’s a classic fairy tale, or those stories about the monsters under our bed, there’s something creative that we used to love and cherish. Some of us remember poems from our childhood, others a book we couldn’t put down and had to keep reading and reading, so make sure you can do the same for yours. While they’re young, read them a story before bed, or even make one up. You’ll be fuelling their creativity, and they’ll always be able to look back with fond memories of these moments.
Do Something Over the Top for Them
We all have those big events in our life, and one of the key things is making sure they remember theirs. Whether it’s a birthday party or celebrating a success, you’ll want to make sure they remember it. Sure you could throw a party, but we’ve all had a party, so why not do something different that they’ll remember and be able to talk about for a long time to come. If the weather is nice, why not consider doing something different like hiring a Wipeout obstacle course for them, or organising an outdoor activity that you know they will love. The most fun moments of our life are always at the forefront, so giving them something out of the ordinary will definitely stay in their memories.
Show Them the Wonders of the World
When we are little everything seems so grand and majestic, so take the time to show your children just how wonderful the world is. Whether you take them to local woodlands or parks, or take them away on holiday, showing them just how much the world has to offer will be a long lasting memory. We don’t just have memories of things, we have memories of places too. I remember my parents taking me to Story Land as a child so I get a ton of enjoyment taking my own children there every summer!
Hopefully these ideas will inspire you with ways to make sure your child grows up with fond memories, after all we only want the best for them.
