Although we all get excited about getting new flooring to uplift and give our home a fresh new look, maintenance is always something we need to consider. It’s very frustrating when you have a floor that needs constant upkeep and attention, after all, who wants to spend their time worrying about and cleaning their floors! So if you’re looking to refloor your kitchen, bathroom, or any room that experiences a lot of foot traffic and spillages then you’ve come to the right place!
Let’s have a look at some of our favorite low-maintenance flooring types…
Laminate
Not only is laminate nice and friendly on the wallet but is also nice and carefree from a maintenance front too. It needs classic mopping and sweeping like any floor, but you don’t need to worry about purchasing specialist floor cleaners as you do with solid wood for example. It is also scratch, stain, and water-resistant which makes it suitable for rooms like the kitchen that see higher exposure to these. The only issue with laminate flooring is that if damage does occur, then you’ll likely have to replace the whole floor as it can’t be refinished.
Wood
Wood isn’t the most practical flooring choice but is by no means the least. In fact, it probably falls somewhere in the middle, which can sometimes make it tricky to decide where to lay it. Wood is, arguably, is the most beautiful flooring choice with a host of practical benefits that make it an excellent choice. When it comes to cleaning you have to be a little more careful, however. Even though wood only needs an easy mop and sweep, you need to be careful with which brush end you use as they can scratch and don’t mop too wet. Don’t use a steam mop either as this will cause the wood to warp and swell. Don’t place it in areas that see high exposure to water, scratch, and stains as it is more susceptible to these than other options. However, if damage does occur, then don’t worry. Wood flooring can be sanded down and refinished to eradicate any damage. So, if you’re prepared for a little more everyday maintenance, you’ll enjoy a lifetime of the beauty with hardwood floor types!
Stone
Although stone isn’t the coziest option, it is nice and easy to keep clean. Stone is waterproof and virtually impossible to scratch or damage, as well as being hightailed durable and lasting for many years. Cleaning is also stress-free, with only a mop and a sweep necessary for this low-maintenance flooring. Stone is also good at hiding the dirt due to its natural appearance. However, if you drop anything fragile on stone then it’s likely to break, so just be aware of this!
Carpet
Carpet has always been and remains to be a very popular choice especially for the bedroom, and it’s easy to see why it’s one of the best low-maintenance flooring types to choose! It’s soft and warm underfoot, perfect for rooms you want to keep nice and cozy! However, it will stain if something is dropped on it and needs more attention with the carpet cleaner than other options! A lot of the time you have to replace the carpet if it does stain, especially if professional cleaning isn’t working!
Luxury Vinyl Tiles
We’ve saved the best till last here! Luxury vinyl tiles are the best low-maintenance flooring you can get. It is scratch, stain, and waterproof – perfect for the kitchen and bathroom! Cleaning is very easy too, only soap and water necessary and no special cleaning products. It’s hard to fault LVT, which is why it wins by far!
