Winter is almost upon us, and that means less time spent on the patio and more time enjoying the warmth of an oven indoors. It’s also a good time to do some maintenance on your patio furniture to keep it looking nice and new.
Dirt and Grime
A basic microfiber cloth is about all you need to keep patio wicker furniture clean throughout the year. You can also use a pressure washer, but you have to keep the pressure on low in order to avoid damaging the wicker. Wicker is very resilient, but it will peel or break under extreme pressure.
Weather Affects
Weather has a minimal affect on wicker, but can harm the aluminum frame that pieces are built with. The threading itself is fairly resistant to water staining, especially those explicitly marked as such. Most outdoor wicker furniture will survive a rainstorm here and there, but it is best to keep the cushions indoors or in some form of storage if you can. Wicker pieces also come in very general sizes, so cushions are easy to order and replace. Even brand name cushions are relatively simple to find and replace.
Basic Care
Treatment of outdoor wicker patio furniture is what keeps it looking new and shiny. There is a wax or a putty you can buy that is simple to apply. Use a rag, and you will keep the frame looking new. You should also wash the fabrics of your outdoor cushions, and keep furniture dust free. A quick once-over with a duster will usually keep bugs away too.
