All I want for Christmas is … underwear? A new survey by Jockey International, Inc. reveals a surprising holiday gift that millions of Americans ought to add to their wish list!

According to the national poll, 43% of Americans report that they personally need an “underwear overhaul” this holiday season, more than anyone else on their shopping list. Also, 21% think their significant other needs new skivvies to freshen up the not-so-better half of their underwear drawer.

It appears that Americans’ unmentionables have become just that. According to a previous Jockey survey, more than a quarter of Americans own underwear five or more years old, and 79% have underwear that is tattered, discolored or stained.* Part of the problem seems to be consumers’ reluctance to part with their intimates. Thirty-two percent of Americans refuse to throw away their old, tattered underwear until they receive new, replacement pairs. So stuff those stockings with some new skivvies!

  9. I bought a set of undies for that time of the month, I’ve had em for about 10 years. Only wear each one 1 day a month, they last a long time thatta way!

  37. I have underwear that dates back to the turn of the century. :-) My daily pairs are probably about 2 years old, though. Christmas before last!

  44. ok I know some of mine that have moved to gym only rotation are at least 3 or 4 years old. Though I have some older ones that are for ‘special occasions’ only… :)

  78. What an embarassing question! :) I had tons of old underwear, but the husband made fun of me so much that I threw them all away, and all my underwear right now I would consider “new-ish” (for me!) which is about 2 years old. eek!

    But good thing for those Victorias secret free panty coupons, because that means I get a free panty every two months or so ;)

  80. This is embarrassing but I still sometimes wear the very first thong I got back in the mid-90s (only about once every couple months)!! I was the only one of my friends who wore them back then.

  93. I lost a good amount of weight and had to replace all of my undies, so my oldest pair is about two years old.

  106. Well, I have several pair from when I was pregnant – which was 5 years ago. I also have several pair from when I was dating my husband – which was eight years ago!! New undies would be NICE – haha! :)

  127. I still have my very first thong that I ever bought….the elastic is coming uncased and stretches everywhere. It’s probably about 7 years old. Yikes!

  167. I have a favorite pair of undies (weird I know..lol..) thats 5 years old. I can’t find any similar pairs so I can’t throw them away! I love them too much

  168. Okay, so I do have to admit that I’ve got some that are about 10 years old still in the rotation, and yes, they do have a hole at the waistband. I think my husband has me beat though so we are both in desperate need of new underwear!

  169. My oldest pair is about 6 years old! I guess you could take off about 1 year’s worth of life from them because I couldn’t wear them for the last few months of each of 3 pregnancies, but that’s still pretty old. They’re still in good shape, though!

  190. I think they are about 5 years old. I have a couple of pair that I paid way too much for so I have glad they did last that long. I just don’t like shopping for underwear for me. I’m just too picky on how they have to fit.

  196. I’m embarrased to say this.. my oldest pair of undies moved to FL from WV about 3 years ago and were in circulation several years before that. They started out black, but they’re all faded and ratty. They came from Victoria’s secret and were discontinued about 5 years ago. Add to all that, I lost 70 pounds so they’re baggy tooo!!!

  279. I actually have no idea how old my oldest pair of underwear is, I recently went through a huge size change because of a medication I had to start taking. My guess would be probably five years maybe, but I probably can’t wear them anymore due my change in size. I have a feeling they are still somewhere in the back of my underwear drawer though! :-)

  287. LOL!!! The oldest pair of underpants i have is from 2004.They still have the elastic in the band so they don’t fall down.
