A world-renowned plastic surgeon from Boston Massachusetts, Dr. Jeffrey Spiegel and his wife and partner, Dr. Onir who recently won the title of the most loved injector in New England by RealSelf, have developed a system to gently even out all the concavities in your face. We had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Onir Spiegel to learn more about the latest cosmetic beauty procedure – the liquid facelift!
What exactly is a Liquid Facelift?
“A brief summary is that our faces don’t just sag. We lose volume. If you know where to restore the volume, all of a sudden your facial skin fits again. Instead of reducing the skin, we restore the face to its proper shape. We’ve done this with patients from their 40s to their 70s. It all depends on your skin quality.
A liquid facelift is a great solution for first-time individuals who have been thinking about doing something for a while and have never pulled the trigger. It’s for individuals for whom going under the knife for a facelift is not an option. They are too scared, do not have the downtime, or just simply can’t have anyone know. So what options are left for them?
You wake up day after day unhappy with what you see in the mirror. And now you’ve gotten as far as making that phone call and coming into the office. In basically half an hour you can leave looking 7 to 10 years younger, and there was never a knife pulled out, no stitches, no OR or anesthesia. And absolutely no downtime!
It starts with the temples, and then we focus under the eyes. For beautiful women, their cheeks start right where their eyes end. So the idea is to give you beautiful curvature from your temples all the way to under your eyes into what’s called the tear trough area. Then we work to erase the nasolabial folds that extend from your nose to the corner of your mouth and bring up the corners of your mouth, so you’re not saggy and looking depressed and angry.”
Dr. Onir ensures that the temples are congruent with the cheeks and the curvature under the eyes. And then she injects at least one more syringe around the mouth to reduce smokers or kissing lines and jowls. The results last a very long time as long as you keep up with this easy regimen.
Is it painful or does it require pain relievers?
“The results are fast and Fabulous, and our patients leave the office feeling more confident, happy with their lives, and ready to tackle the world! There’s no surgery, and minimal if any discomfort after the procedure. Tylenol or nothing at all is typical. We usually recommend arnica the day before the procedure and for about two days after to minimize bruising. We also tell our patients to avoid exercise for 48 hours and ice the area as much as possible.”
Is there any downtime and is there any upkeep?
“There is no major downtown, and the up-keep is easy. The procedure can last many years as long as you keep up with the changes of aging and the lifespan of the natural fillers we use. We recommend you pop into the office every six months or so for a relatively minor touch up, usually 2-3 filler syringes.”
Is it less expensive than a traditional facelift?
“The cost is typically half that of a traditional facelift. But, again that depends on how much product is required and how far back the patient would like to go. Less cost, less downtime, faster results – for many people it’s the perfect solution.”
