Chances are, you have a lot of holiday parties scheduled – but how you do transition your hairstyle from work to play without spending a lot of extra time styling? Thankfully, celebrity hairstylist Thomas Dunkin (whose worked with Isla Fisher, Rachel McAdams and Michelle Williams) has shared his top hair tips for women with any hair type.
Long Hair:
Dunkin suggests wearing hair in a braided bun, and taking it out right before the work day ends. To create soft, “beachy” waves, tousle hair with fingers then spritz with a soft-hold hairspray like Sebastian Professional Trilliant.ย Keep in mind that the tighter you make your braid, the more waves you will create. Don’t be afraid to go wild!
Curly Medium/Long Hair:
Curly girls should work with – not against – their natural texture. Instead of taking a flatiron to hair before work, wear your hair natural and apply a dollop ofย Sebastian Professional Whipped Creamย to tresses when the workday ends. Then, pull back small to medium sections of your hair and twirl them around two fingers, securing to the back of your head with a bobby pin. Continue in this vein until of your hair is pinned back, then set with hairspray.
Fine Hair:
If you have fine hair, you know how important it is to build volume. Dunkin says to cleanse and blow dry your hair in the morning, then wearing it down to work. At the end of the day, backcomb your hair and use a shaping spray to build the desired texture and shape. Using a hair donut or hair pad, place pad at your crown and tightly secure with bobby pins. Toย camouflageย the pad, wrap small sections of your hair around the pad, tucking under and securing with pins. To add extra shine and polish, apply a dab ofย Sebastian Professional Shine Crafter Wax.ย Allow any loose pieces to frame your face for a sweet accent.
