I love the summer time. I love the ability to take the children out on little day trips and not worry about them being cold, and I love the fact that the evenings seem so much longer and like I have more time to get on top of everything!
The one thing about the end of summer though is that you never truly know what weather youโll get. The mornings can start off a little on the chilly side and then the afternoon sun will leave you wishing you had worn shorts.
As we celebrate Labor Day, the unofficial last weekend of summer, I thought Iโd just share with you a few of the things to pack to make sure you areย always prepared for unpredictable end of summer weather.
How To Pack For Your End Of Summer Outing
Essentials For Your Handbag
Girls love their handbags, but when you become a motherย and youโre tasked with the organization of the family, they take on a far more practical nature. Go for large canvas handbags like Kipling, as you can fit far more in them and theyโre reasonably water proof. Iโd also recommend getting one with a separate zipped compartment to store things like tickets for theme parks, money and so on, so that if thereโs any bad weather, nothing gets ruined.
Then you need to think about the kinds of items that youโre likely to need on a day out. First of all, make sure you pick up a packaway jacket for yourself, your partner and the kids. These are so convenient being lightweight and easily storable in your handbag, so if the weather turns nasty or the sun just hides behind a cloud for a while, you all have an extra layer. If itโs good day, donโt forget to pick up some travel sizeย bottles of sunscreen.
Loading Up The Car
If youโre travelling by car, use the space. Pack blankets in the trunkย for when the kids fall asleep on the way home, and always keep spare sweatshirts and socks on a journey. Make sure you have a first aid kit handy too, as exploring can often lead to cut knees. If you really want to be extra prepared, purchase a flashlight and extra batteries for keeping in the car. ย If you have a mini van and can spare the room, pack a few pairs of wellington boots, in case you find yourself unexpectedly in a wet, muddy situation. Bring A Cooler Bag
It’s absolutely essential to bring water with you during a trip because you never know where you will find yourself and clean drinking water isn’t always easy to come by. We all know the dangers of leaving plastic water bottles in a hot car though, so be sure to bring a good quality cooler. These days you can even get really cute wicker ones with sets of plates, cutlery, drinks canisters and even an insulated section, making them perfect for a picnic.
