Whether you live where the grill can be outdoors all year round, or if you are cleaning it up before the long snowy winter these are things that we should all be doing! Keep that grill ready for those surprise guest that pop in! Nobody wants their steak going on a crusty, filthy grill!
Iโll admit these are things that I put no thought into until one of my buddies asked me if I ever cleaned my grill. I questioned what he meant because you donโt eat off of it, and you can burn any grit and scrape it off with your brush! Wellโฆ I was proven wrong very quickly!
These steps will ensure your grill is ready for whatever you throw on it!
Disconnect the Propane and soak the grates
First ensure that all the dials are in the off position. While the grill is still barely warm, turn off and disconnect the propane tank. Remove grates and metal plates (wearing gloves of course) and soak in a bucket of hot, soapy water.
Scrub under the hood
Place a piece of foil over the heating element loosely. Then take a grill brush and scrub the underside of the hood…this will look like peeling paint.
Clean the inside walls
Again use the grill brush to scrub the walls above the heating element. Debris will start to fall onto the foil. Wipe the walls with damp paper towel.
Scrub and rinse grates
Take grates and drip pan out of bucket. Scrub with grill brush and rinse with hose.
Put the insides back in
Remove the foil. Place grates and plates back in. Reconnect the propane.
Clean out the cabinet
Get any debris out from underneath the grill. If you donโt have good idea about cleaning tips and tools, visit thehomemakersjournal.com to read about them.
Clean the Exterior
Wipe down the outside of the grill and the inside of the cabinet with stainless steel wipes.
And that’s it! Well, that and a scheduled weekly visit from my favorite House Cleaning in DC! You will never be unprepared for those pop in guests!
