Of course you want your home to look inviting and festive this holiday season, but sometimes the idea of holiday decorating can seem like a daunting task, especially for a busy mom like yourself. Don’t worry, decorating your home doesn’t have to be complicated. You can make a big impact without making too much of an effort with a range of affordable holiday decorations and accent pieces from Target.

Outside The Home

The best way to decorate outside is with a few sets of lights! I generally prefer white lights because I think they are classic and really classy, but somehow I let my kids talk me into using some colored lights on our bush this year.

I like to string white lights on my fence, but if you don’t have a fence, you could string lights along a banister or deck railing, or up a lamppost for the same effect.

Whether you like white lights or colored lights, you can find a huge variety of Christmas lights at Target, including a great selection of energy-saving LED lights. I prefer the LED lights because I find they last much longer.

If you want to go the extra mile, get some pre-lit garland to string over your front door or around garage doors like I did on my house. This is a classic way to decorate for Christmas, and it makes a great statement! I love that it makes my house look like it’s straight out of a Christmas movie.

If you want to make a big impact for a minimal amount of effort, go for the Star Shower laser light that projects a shower of red and green lights all over your entire home. No ladders, no staples, no more fussing with dead bulbs—just thousands of crisp, dazzling “stars” illuminating your landscape and house. All you have to do is plug it in and forget about it! The Star Shower goes on automatically at dusk and off at daylight. No timer needed! This is seriously the easiest way to decorate your yard for the holidays.

Inside the Home

Once your guests get inside the house, you want them to feel welcomed. You want your holiday decorations to feel like a warm hug, not a slap in the face, so be careful what you put in your entryway!

I turned my mudroom into my home office, so as soon as my friends and family walk in the door, they are right in the middle of my office. My home office is a hopeless disaster that I can’t take time to clean and organize at the moment, so I didn’t even bother with decorations in there because it would end up looking trashy instead of festive. Once guests exit the tiny space that is my home office, they are in the middle of my kitchen and dining room area, which is thankfully a much cleaner and more organized space.

I recently renovated my kitchen, changing it from dark, drab and dated to clean, white and bright!

At the center of my kitchen is the Aspen Kitchen Cart ($306) from Target. It was easy to assemble and gives me the extra space needed for holiday entertaining.

Having a clean, white palette gives me the freedom to decorate however I wish because almost everything looks great against neutrals.

With just a few key accessories from Target’s Wonderlist and a couple of items from their home collection, I turned my new kitchen island into a hot-cocoa station to give my guests a cozy and inviting place to warm up!

As you can see, just a few key accessories can completely transform a space! Most of these items will remain in my kitchen year-round, like the Threshold Beaded Cake Stand ($19.99) and Threshold Porcelain Pitcher ($13.99). Clever additions like the Threshold Berry Tree and the classy Threshold White Deer Figure turn this into a winter wonderland.

It’s really quite easy to decorate your home with a range of holiday decorations and products for your home. Thanks to Target, it doesn’t have to take a lot of time or money to make your home look beautiful for the Christmas season.
