Like every Fall in the past, suede is in. I saw lots of suede dresses, pants, handbags etc on the Fall 2009 runways. Mix it up a bit and go beyond your basic black suede and instead opt for rich colors like aubergine, burgundy, browns, and deep purples. Gray will still be a hot color again this Fall too. And purple is definitely one of the hottest colors for Fall 2009 and this rich color looks fabulous on suede pumps and boots.
Suede Ballet Flats:

L to R: Fergie Gravity – $89, Steven Stardom – $128
, Report Irina – $60
The suede ballet flats above cover more than just the suede trend. Notice the studs on the first 2 pairs and the fabulous little ruffles on the third pair. These comfy flats are perfect Fall shoes. Wear them with jeans, leggings, skirts and dresses.
Suede Mid Heel Shoes:

L to R: Softspots Paxton – $75, Aerosoles Hap Hazard – $69
, Softspots Sarita – $80
Comfort is très chic this Fall. Look for low and mid heel shoes with sturdy heels and wedges. Finally a trend that all you busy moms can jump on board with! Eye catching details like buckles, patent trim, studs, ruffles and buttons will add interest and style to any shoe. I like the Softspots Paxton in particular because of the comfy wedge heel, smart looking patent trim, and the rich aubergine color. Those lovely slip-ons also come in dark purple
and a rich chocolaty brown
.
Suede High Heels:

L to R: Aerosoles Gineva – $69, Aerosoles Pep Rally – $59
, Sofft Gallery – $110
Brands like Aerosoles, SoftSpots, Sofft and Clarks offer a variety of adorable high heel shoes that are comfortable and stylish. The heels above are both great for work and business wear as well as casual and evening. It’s all about what you pair them with. Throw them on with a pant suit for work or wear them with trouser jeans on the weekends. You can even wear them with dark tights and a dress.
Tall Suede Boots:

L to R: Aerosoles Gather Round – $120, Miss Me Fanny Boot – $38
, Unionbay Stormie Boot – $35
Whether you choose wedges, heels or Ugg Boots, pick a rich color like chocolate brown or purple. Even these cute dark green suede boots are quite stylish.
Will you be adding suede shoes to you Fall shopping list? Which pair above do you like best?
Hi, your re-cap of the Fall ’09 shoe trends is right on. However I really disagree on your feeling that designers are keeping it low key this fall. Fashion can be looked at from 2 directions. When the economy looks forward and sees little hope color and texture become important. When the economy sees good times ahead the silhouette becomes dominant. Right now the silhouettes are way out there (61/2″ platforms, thigh hi boots, etc). look out, the economy is coming back big time!!!!
You are so right about purple and grey being totally HOT colors for the season. I, for one, am so ready to jump on board. I love the ankle boots we’re seeing everywhere too. A kind-of fun 80’s vibe. Paired with patterned tights and a hip tunic, this is a great look! I think that there is a lot this season for “moms on the go” to get on board with. For instance, tweed is a great look for fall that can be pulled off (with the right shoe…maybe a ballet flat?) for moms at the park, at the library, etc. I wrote about tweed for fall just a few days ago here: http://www.shoezodiac.com/tweed-pumps/
