When I hear the term “Going Green”, the first thought that comes to mind is cleaning products. I was quite surprised to learn that there are a number of beauty products out there that have gone green. Not just in the packaging but the actual ingredients. If a product states that they are a “Green” product this means that they are natural or organic. In other words – NO CHEMICALS should be in this product. Here are some great “Green” Products.
Hair: Conventional hair color contains ammonia. More than 50% of women suffer the side effects of ammonia – itching, burning and an irritated scalp. A new product has popped up at the hair salons that is being praised by beauticians. The product is Taylor Mackay Organic Color. It is oil based, no discomfort to the person having their hair dyed and when it goes down the drain it doesn’t hurt the environment.
Face: Aveda Tourmaline Charged Exfoliating Cleanser. This cleanser sloughs off dead skin cells without scratching or damaging the skin’s surface. It also contains tiny, naturally-derived jojoba beads and tourmaline, a beautiful pink gemstone found to possess strong energizing qualities. When added to the cleanser, tourmaline enhances the effect of the other ingredients—delivering superior moisture, smoothness, radiance, and helping to reduce fine lines.
Clothing: Organic Clothing is made with organic cottons and silks. Grown without pesticides or chemicals the result is a super soft material. They are a bit more expensive – but I’ve heard its worth it. Levis has a new Eco line of jeans and khakis that are made of 100% organic cotton and canvas. Check it out at levis.com . Organic clothing is popping up all over – even Walmart is selling them.
Currently, there is minimal FDA regulations with regard to “Green” products so be sure to make sure that the product you are purchasing has been certified. IT MUST HAVE A USDA SEAL (THIS MEANS THE PRODUCT IS AT LEAST 95% ORGANIC) OR AN OASIS SEAL (THIS MEANS THE PRODUCT IS AT LEAST 85% ORGANIC).
Have you gone Green when it comes to your beauty products??
