The Top 5 Advantages (And Disadvantages) of Homeschooling

Most parents opt to have their children learn from home rather than having them enrolled and enabling them to study in a prescribed setting of a private or public school. Parents who homeschool their children take accountability for their learning. This is extreme parenting as it involves parents spending more time with them, doing their best, and embracing perseverance to educate their children.

Homeschooling used to be a common activity in rural areas back then. But, nowadays, it is an activity which is widely practiced in most countries globally. Children of profane and highly educated experts are regarded as students. Homeschooling also tends to be easier for these parents and more effective due to the evolvements in digital education and disposal of internet resources.

Reasons Why You Should Homeschool

Specialist Travis Meade from canadian essay writing service says that Many people often wonder why some parents prefer homeschooling their children instead of having them learn with other children. Well, according to some research from ready essays, these parents believe that homeschooling is better for their children due to the following reasons:

  • The belief that they can give better education to their children while at home.
  • Schools have poor learning environments.
  • They want to be fully aware of what the child learns and grasps.
  • Schools do not pose challenges to children they can tackle.
  • Students tend to have behavioral issues at school.
  • Home atmosphere is more unperturbed or tranquil, unlike in school, and the program can be customized to meet a child’s necessities.
  • Enable them to develop charisma or decency.
  • Children do not have to be with people they don’t like.
  • The objective of what the school teaches.
  • Avoiding wasting money on school uniforms.
  • Students encountering issues with other schools.
  • The child may have a disability or special needs.
  • Ability to play and learn outside.

Top 5 Advantages of Homeschooling

Regardless of the motives why some parents choose to homeschool their children, it can rip heavy rewards and deliver numerous benefits towards making the children smart. According to some articles written by professionals from resume writers, it is discovered that homeschooled children perform well in standardized tests than their peers. Additionally, it was found that homeschooling children increases their activeness and enables them to contribute to their communities and civic affairs. Moreover, homeschooled children are content with life in comparison to the population generally. Below are some of the benefits of homeschooling which elucidate this effect.

One-on-one tutoring

Studies reveal that it is difficult for some students to understand what is being taught in class due to their size. When the students are too many, it is hard for a teacher to figure out if all students have understood what he or she is teaching. But, when it comes to homeschooling, it is easy to know if the child comprehends everything before proceeding to the next topic. One-on-one tutoring allows a child to ask questions and understand their responses in the manner they deem fit. Additionally, this helps the teacher to track the learning progress of the student. You are the perfect tutor for your child which is one of the biggest advantages of homeschooling!

Tailored learning to a child’s specific educational needs

One of the biggest advantages of homeschooling is the ability for parents to assess their children’s learning styles, interests, strengths, and weaknesses. They can tailor their kid’s education to enhance learning, fortify weaknesses, and allow them to concentrate on areas of special concern or adeptness. This hence motivates the children to learn, thereby enabling them to develop an interest in learning.

Children are more apt to think independently

Homeschooled children do not follow ideas made by their peers without making their decisions. They often think for themselves, and it is hard for them to be influenced by peer pressure.

Eradicates boredom

Homeschooling also helps to eradicate boredom in that students put unswerving effort into learning rather than waste time trying to grasp what other students are struggling to understand.

Offers a safe learning environment

Homeschooled children are not susceptible to bullying, bad influences, teasing, negative peer pressure, drugs, alcohol, sexual abuse, or misbehaving teachers. If they are home with you under your watchful eye, you know who they are interacting with at all times rather than just hoping you can trust whoever they are with at school.

The Disadvantages

While homeschooling may be beneficial in the ways discussed above, it can also have some disadvantages. Some of these disadvantages include;

Socialization factor

It is believed by some that it may be difficult for homeschooled children to intermingle and relate with their peers. This may or may not be a disadvantage depending on how you want to raise your children. Homeschooled children tend to be better socialized and have an easier time talking to adults.

Confined knowledge

Some people believe that homeschooled children do not get a well-rounded education, when in fact, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Yes, their education and knowledge is confined to what you provide for them, but you are capable of providing them so much more than the public school can. This is actually a hidden advantage in disguise!

Financial capabilities

If both you and your husband have a full time job, obviously you can’t homeschool unless your work hours are not at the same time or you have someone else to care for the children while you are not home and then homeschool when you get home from work. Homeschooling is better suited for a stay at home mom, which brings us to whether or not you are financially capable of homeschooling. Fancy boxed curriculum can get very pricey, especially if you have a lot of children, but there are ways to get big discounts on great curriculum which we frequently discuss on the blog here.

Miss the benefits of a classroom

Some people believe that homeschooled children do not get to be encouraged and challenged by their peers. This may be true in some cases if you have only one child. Generally, children will challenge themselves to be better than their siblings, which gives homeschooling the same “classroom environment” in that regard. If you homeschool an only child, it’s important to participate in “Homeschool Co-Ops” and other gatherings to make sure your child is learning to challenge themselves against others.

Lack of germs

For those of you that are of the line of thinking that a child getting sick all the time builds their immune system and getting sick is “good for them”, well, you might see the ability to avoid illness and germs by staying home as a disadvantage. For those of you like myself that do NOT like cleaning up after 5 puking children, the lack of germ exposure by homeschooling is definitely an advantage!

Other Useful Tips

Before choosing to homeschool your child, ensure that you understand what the disadvantages and advantages of homeschooling really are. Some of the useful tips you can consider to make an informed decision about homeschooling include;

  • Understanding what you need to do to legally homeschool in your state or country.
  • Embracing patience when training your child. Do not pressure them to learn a dexterity before they are ready.
  • Try attending yearly homeschool conferences or events.
  • Take advantage of the evolvement of technology in the digital world and the internet to supplement learning materials.

In conclusion, there are many advantages of homeschooling. If you aren’t in a place where you can homeschool your child right now, that’s ok, you can always start next year! Regardless of the school that a parent chooses to take their child, they can learn all the basic skills they need for life, like English, math, grammar, how to write a perfect essay, and more with consistent practice. If you are able to homeschool them though, you can provide them with so much more than that and develop an amazing relationship with your children in the process!

And, if you are wondering, “Are homeschoolers smarter?” the answer is a resounding YES! Don’t hesitate to educate your child at home. If it’s something you are passionate about, your child will not only thrive but flourish into an amazing person with a thirst for knowledge and love of learning!

You do not find a happy life. You make it.

That’s the biggest lesson that grief has taught me. If I just wait around to be happy again, I’ll die sad.

You don’t get through grief and come out the other side. That’s not how it works. You learn how to grow around it like a tree grows around a rock that’s in the way. You don’t wait for the rock to move. Cause it’s not gonna.

Choose happy. And then make it happen.

This little guy always asks to help when he sees me cleaning the house, washing the floors, doing laundry, or emptying the dishwasher. That’s what I love about Montessori parenting - it allows kids to do big jobs and in turn makes them eager to help!

He was over the moon when we gave him the @lovevery floor mop that actually works! He uses it daily now. The mopping pad is machine washable and you can refill the fluid container on it. I usually just do water and a drop of essential oils because he loves it when everything smells clean! 😜

Definitely recommend! If you want to grab this mop for your little helper, it’s in the Storyteller Play Kit from Lovevery for 3 year olds.

Today was my due date for Dylan. Considering he w Today was my due date for Dylan.

Considering he was my 6th child, it's possible he would have been here by now. It’s been extra hard for me this week.

Despite my best efforts to be strong and stay positive, I am completely brokenhearted. I’m just being honest. I could pretend I’m fine, but that doesn't do me or anyone else any good to be dishonest about the pain of miscarriage or the grief that comes with losing a child.

My heart is completely shattered from having an empty womb and an empty nursery. An empty bassinet in the corner and unused tiny newborn outfits, all washed, folded, and ready… for nothing.

It makes me physically sick to my stomach when I think about it all and I can't even fathom how I got here. How did I get here?

This isn't how it's supposed to be! I should be holding a newborn right now! It’s so unfair.

In an instant, my baby was gone and there was nothing I could do to change that.

It doesn't matter how much time passes or what else happens in life, I will always miss him. My heart with always long for my baby.

Those who haven't experienced loss tell you that "Don’t worry! Things will get better, just focus on the positive!" but people who actually know this grief and what it actually feels like to lose a baby, won’t tell you that. They know this hard road. They understand that unfortunately you don't just “get over it.”

The grief doesn't just go away, even if you try to ignore it, it's still there. Like the sun. You don’t have to look at it to know it’s there. You can turn your back on it but it will still warm your skin.

The grief from losing a child is unbearable.
It is unpredictable.
It is unforgiving.
It is relentless.
It is all-consuming.
And it completely shatters you when you don’t expect it.

You don’t get over it. You don’t forget. You simply learn to live with it. And I’m learning to live with it every day.

It’s been 137 days I’ve had to live without my baby.

Lord Jesus, please… hold me extra tight tonight.
