Father’s Day can often be a time when you feel stumped about what to buy the father of your children, or indeed your own parent. While a mug stamped with ‘World’s Best Dad’ might cut it in terms of endearment from a newborn, the cuteness might go pretty stale pretty quickly.
So what are the best presents for Father’s Day? We’ve scoured the internet and come up with some great examples – cost no object. Some examples might be based on fantasy, but there’s nothing wrong with having dreams!

In a world where screens rule the roost, settling down to a family afternoon of board games is one of those activities that has such sweet resonance. Whether it is the more cerebral chess, or a more childlike snakes and ladders, the games will surely change as your family grows. What is important is the tradition of playing the games in the first place.
While some versions of the games can be bought quite cheaply, these games can become family heirlooms, which you can end up playing with grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren – and there’s no reason why your great-grandchildren shouldn’t continue this legacy either. Don’t buy cheap games – invest in quality and craftsmanship. It makes playing (and winning) all the more satisfying!
Leather is a man’s best friend
While diamonds have always been considered a girl’s best friend, leather contains strong masculine traits. Considering a wide range of potential leather products will always go down well with the man in your life.
Anything from soft leather briefcases, to designer bracelets, to sheepskin lined flying jackets, there is something about leather that exudes a comfortable, confident masculinity. And again, like the board games, there is a long term element of legacy to leather, a material that can endure for many years, and be passed down from generation to generation.
Fine wines for laying down
When we say fine wines for laying down, we don’t mean you should drink them and lie down – we mean that you need to invest in the wine, and then tuck it away somewhere cool and dark so that it can mature and evolve until it is ready to drink.
Some wines might be ready in a few years, others might be ready in a few decades. There are some that, the longer you leave them, the more they gain value. If you have an eight year old child, you might want to seek out a wine that is ready to drink in ten years, so that they can enjoy it with you when they turn 18.
Howsoever you intend to enjoy the legacy of a fine wine, enjoy the process of choosing one and creating a space in which to store it.
Classic car for a classic man
We’ve saved this one for last because this truly is the fantasy present that we would all like to gift to the father’s in our lives – mainly because we can all enjoy it too. A classic sports car – of whatever make your father so desires. Whether it’s an MGB, an Alfa Romeo Spider, a Morgan, or a Jaguar E-type, they are all the perfect vehicle in which dad AND mum, having called in the babysitter, can escape from the kids for a few hours and recapture some of that sense of freedom and adventure from their early days of dating.
If well maintained, a classic car can be passed down from father to son or daughter, leaving a legacy of memories that will be recorded in family stories for generations to come.
