Clean Your Ring Regularly
A build-up of dirt and grime will dull the shine of your ring. Even if you haven’t been doing anything particularly intensive such as gardening or playing sports in your engagement ring, you’ll still get a build-up of everyday dirt and chemicals from makeup and lotions so it’s important to clean your ring on a regular basis.

Then simply soak your ring for a few minutes in a cup of warm, soapy water. You can use any mild soap for this before gently cleaning it using a soft-bristled toothbrush before rinsing and patting dry. Try to clean your ring every few weeks or so to keep your diamond engagement ring sparkling.

A diamond engagement ring is often one of the most expensive items of jewelry a woman may own and of course, will have untold sentimental value too, especially if it’s an heirloom ring. That’s why it’s vital to take out proper insurance for your engagement ring in case it becomes lost or stolen. Make sure your insurance policy covers your ring both inside and outside of your home against loss, theft and damage and be sure to have your ring reappraised every few years so that your insurance policy covers your ring’s true value.
Don’t Be Afraid to Take it Off
Many people worry about taking their engagement ring off in case they lose it but provided you put it somewhere safe (i.e. not on the edge of a public sink) then it can actually be a good thing to take your ring off now and again depending on what you’re doing. This is particularly true if you’re taking part in activities that might damage your ring, such as swimming in the sea or a chlorinated pool or using harsh cleaning chemicals.
Check the Setting
Regularly check the setting on your diamond ring to ensure that the prongs aren’t too tight or loose, which could lead to the diamond becoming damaged or falling out. You can do this at home by closely inspecting the ring and shaking it next to your ear to listen out for a rattle. If you’re not sure, you can also take your ring to the jeweler you bought it from and ask them to do a prong check for you.
