It’s Spring Cleaning Season: Here’s How To Do It Right

The truth is that there’s nothing as satisfying as having a beautiful clean house, is there? The issue is that cleaning your home from top to bottom can feel like a lot of work – it can be extremely overwhelming as there’s most likely a lot that you want to get done. 

The best approach you can take is to tackle the process on a per room basis, going from one room to another at a time. Whether you’ve only got a few minutes to freshen up your home or you’ve got a few days set aside to clean, you can create a spring cleaning approach that works for you. 

Believe it or not, if you can get your approach to spring cleaning right, you can make the process of deep cleaning your home and getting things nicely organized, far less stressful or time-consuming. The key is to find an approach that works for you.

Start with clutter 

If you’re going to spring clean your home, an important part of the cleaning process should be to take some time to declutter your home. This means taking the time to go through each room in your house looking for old, broken and unwanted items that can be disposed of to clear space within your home. If you have a basement or attic stuffed full of unwanted stuff, it’s also a great time to go through those as well.

You might not realize it but it’s easier than you would think for floors (both carpet and hard flooring) to be in need of a little spring TLC. Day-to-day cleaning can make floors appear clean, but the chances are that your floors may still be in need of a little deeper cleaning. 

For instance, carpets can become musty over time, despite regular hoovering. So it can pay to give your carpets a deeper clean when you do your annual deep clean. A great way to do this is to use a professional carpet cleaning machine to give each of the carpets in your home a good scrub. (Honestly, you will be amazed at how much dirt and grime comes off of them.) 

Not got time for a deep carpet clean? Opt to sprinkle baking soda onto your carpets, working it in with a soft brush, before vacuuming it up 30 minutes later. This should help to remove stubborn odors from your carpets, leaving them smelling far fresher.

Give your sinks a good clean 

Noticed that some of the sinks in your home have a bit of a whiff to them? Now is the perfect time to give them a good old clean and refresh them properly. 

Pack your plug hole with baking soda and squeeze fresh lemon juice onto it – the mixture should start to bubble and fizz. After a few minutes, pour a boiled kettle of water over the mixture, washing it down the plughole. This should help to deodorize any nasty smells, freshening up your sink.

Make sure that when you’re drying your windows that you’re using circle movements to buff the glass – this helps to prevent water stains from occurring. It’s also a good idea to use a microfibre cloth to do this. 

If you’re unable to safely reach the outside of your windows, then it might be a good idea to hire a window cleaner to help manage the task. Give your appliances a clean 

It’s also important that you don’t forget about your key appliances and the fact that they require regular cleaning to stay fresh and clean. 

Start with your microwave by filling a large bowl with a cup of water and a chopped lemon and a few drops of vinegar, and then popping it in the microwave for a few minutes. As the microwave heats up, the water will boil and the steam will loosen any dirt or grime inside the machine, making it easier to wipe away. Once the microwave turns off, you should be able to easily wipe the inside out with a clean sponge or cloth, leaving it fresh and clean. 

Next, move onto your oven. If you’re going to give your oven a good clean, you need to use the right products.
