For making this one, you will need:

  • four cups Borax
  • four cups washing soda
  • two cups baking soda
  • two to four bars of Castile bar soap (grated!)
  • ten drops of your favorite essential oil for scent (optional)

First of all, grate the soap as fine as it is only possible. We would recommend even using a food processor for better results. 

In a large bucket, blend Borax and sodas. Stir thoroughly or shake. If you will be stirring the mixture, let the dust settle first prior to continuing, and remember to wear protective gloves when doing this!

When the previous stage is finished, incorporate the soapy powder and stir it properly as well. To finish, add oil if this is your option.

Such a product can be stored in a tightly covered hermetic tank away from kids or pets (the stuff is non-toxic but it’s still non-consumable and it’s not a toy thing to mess with!). The amount you will get will be enough for nearly two hundred loads, and the total preparation time is only thirty minutes.

For laundering purposes, simply add one or two spoonfuls to the load.

If you prefer liquid laundering cleaners, it will take about an hour to make it, and the amount of product will be enough for eighty washes.

You will need:

Start with simmering the grated soap with water over medium heat until it is melted. Pour the soapy liquid into a five-gallon bucket, add all the dry powdered components, and mix.

Now add more aqua so that there are only three to five inches of headroom left. Mix to ensure all the components are totally dissolved!
