If you have short hair, you obviously won’t be partaking in any of the many long hairstyles for Spring 2009. You have 2 choices – keep it short, or cut it even shorter! Assuming you don’t want to get a Pixie or Cropped Bob let’s look at our options:
There are three basic Bobs:
Conservative Bob
This type of Bob is the most popular and the easiest to achieve. Have your stylist cut your hair all one length, with or without bangs. Depending on your face shape, you may want something chin length like Katie Holmes, or something a little longer, more like Jennifer Aniston. To get this look, wash your hair with volumizing shampoo and conditioner. Towel dry and apply a small amount of root-lifting mousse to damp hair and then blow dry with a hair dryer and large round brush. Finish off with a shine spray to give your hair a sleek, shiny look.
Flipped Bob
This adorable version of the Bob is slightly layered and fringe style or texturized bangs. Have your stylist cut you hair so that it naturally wants to flip out instead of under. You can style your hair the same way as the bob above, but when you get to the back, flip the ends out with your large round brush, instead of encouraging it to curl under. You can use a small amount of styling wax to define pieces for a modern look.
Layered Bob
Layering and side-swept bangs create this curly Bob. Encourage the natural curl in your hair during humid months with a curling shampoo and conditioner, towel dry, and follow with a generous amount of curl enhancer. Blow dry your hair with a hair dryer with a diffuser or let it dry on it’s own, all the while scrunching it to encourage the curls. Don’t mess with it too much. You want defined curls, not a firzzy mess, so don’t play with it too much. You can even use a sprial curling iron to force stubborn hairs and direct them towards your face.
No matter which Bob you pick, keep it natural looking. Healthy, shiny hair is the most important thing. Your hair style is just secondary. Remember to mention to your stylist that you want it simple and easy to manage. That’s the Bob trademark!
