If you’re in the parenting niche, take a look at these accounts you should follow. These are top influencers in the space. If you are not willing to buy followers then connecting with influencers can help you grow your account to new levels. Some IGers are choosing to give themselves an extra boost. Even if you’re not in the mom bloggers space, and you just want to connect with parents, these are a few of our favorite Instagram parenting accounts that are a good places to start.
1. @AverageParentProblems
This is a second account for Ilana Wiles, a mom, blogger, and author. She is the author of “Remarkably Average Parent” and uses this account to share the more humorous side of problems parents face.
This account has 393,000 followers at the time of this writing, and can be expected to keep growing. If you want to follow her family, you can also follow her other account, @mommyshorts, which is the companion to her blog by the same name. That account has 161,000 followers, and chronicles her life with her daughters in New York City.
2. @Father_of_Daughters
This is the Instagram account for a UK parent, Simon Hooper, who is one man living with his wife and four daughters. He’s a one-man Instabrand with over 900,000 followers. He has also written a book, titled “Forever Outnumbered.” The book is about his journey into parenthood where he goes from being a 24-year-old “man-child” to the only man in the house of six 10 years later.
He says, “Our house is now known as ‘the place where silence came to die’. It’s also where you’ll find carpets that are made up of 50% glitter and where there are more pink stuffed animals than at a colour-blind taxidermy specialists. But I wouldn’t change a thing. These people are my life.”
3. @ScaryMommy
Jill Smokler started Scary Mommy as a personal parenting blog back in 2008. It was originally intended to chronicle her journey as a stay-at-home mom, but has since grown into a full-fledged media company.
She now has a team of writers working for her and produces new content for the site and its social media channels every day. Her Instagram account has 1.2 million followers, even though it is a private account, rather than a public one. While Jill was one of the top Instagram parenting accounts for many years, it seems to have proved too much for her and she has since retired from Scary Mommy.
4. @LifeofDad
This is the Instagram account for the site of the same name. Tom Riles is the man behind the brand, and he’s also a standup comic who opens the show for Ellen DeGeneres. Life of Dad is a community for dads that also calls itself the “social network for dads.”
The account has more than 117,000 followers, and encourages people to hashtag their photos #lifeofdad for permission to feature them.
5. @MyBrownBaby
This is the accompanying Instagram for the blog, My Brown Baby. It’s run by blogger Denene Millner. Her blog and Instagram are focused specifically on issues of concern and topics for parents of color.
She’s used her parenting influence to write a book titled, “My Brown Baby: On the Joys and Challenges of Raising African American Children.” She has nearly 8,000 Instagram followers at the time of this writing, but also has influence on Twitter, where she has 14,300 followers.
6. @HonestToddler
This is the companion Instagram account for the blog by the same name. It’s run by blogger and parenting influencer Bunmi Laditan. It’s a fun blog that’s meant to give a look into the mind of a toddler. The account itself has 142,000 followers.
But, Bunmi’s personal account has nearly 34,000 followers. Bumni has authored multiple books, including, “The Honest Toddler: A Child’s Guide to Parenting”, “Confessions of a Domestic Failure”, “Toddlers are A**holes (It’s Not Your Fault), and “The Big Bed”. She lives with her family in Quebec.
7. @KidsAreTheWorst
@KidsAreTheWorst is an Instagram account run by Anna Macfarlane. Here, she shares humorous memes and photos of kids, to help parents identify with the rough parents of parenthood. In the bio, it says it’s okay to laugh because you were the worst once, too.
To have a shot at your photo being featured on the website, use the hashtag #kidsaretheworst. The account has 449,000 followers. You can also connect with Anna at @Annaistheworst and @thingsaretheworst. She is a social media consultant as well.
8. @PregnantChicken
We couldn’t finish this roundup without mentioning one of our favorite Instagram parenting accounts dedicated to pregnancy and new parents. Pregnant Chicken has 113,000 followers, and promises to guide people through pregnancy and new parenthood with “humor & honesty”. They encourage people to hashtag their photos with #pregnantchicken (right in the bio!) for a chance to be featured on the accompanying website. They have Stories Highlights that cover pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, formula feeding, and more.
Parenting is rough for everyone at some point or another throughout the journey – whether you’re bringing your first baby home from the hospital, or sending your last baby off to college.
