Don’t Purchase (Or Eat) This!!
Allright ladies, we’ve got a definite “Do Not Buy” situation here.
I recently tried out the newest offering from Weight Watchers’… Their new “Golden Sponge Cake with Creamy Filling”.
First off, if you love Twinkies, you’ll love these… Which would probably explain why I don’t.
They don’t taste low fat, which is good, and they don’t look low fat, which I guess was good, and overall an enjoyable treat… except for the aftertaste.
Imagine eating your hub cap. Or maybe even your stainless steel refrigerator…. Whatever you can think of that would leave a dry, metallic aftertaste in your mouth…
I’m sure you’ve eaten or at least ingested something that tasted… well kinda metallicky before. Know what I’m saying? And these sponge cakes taste just like that. Gross, right?
Well I looked at the ingredients… and aluminum was actually in the ingredient list. WTF?
Now I’m sure that Weight Watchers has a lot of scrumptious treats for those watching their waistlines, but the Sponge Cake is definitely not one of them. At least for me! I dare you to try it…
But hey, maybe it’s just me… Style List seems to think they’re great! And so does Kailani over at An Island Review.
Yes, they are a great little indulgence when you are on a diet and you need a snack. I mean, they do only have 80 in each one, which is pretty stinkin’ amazing when you think about it… Especially when you compare it to Hostess Twinkies which have 150 calories in each one!
If you like things like Twinkies, then you’ll probably love these (minus the weird aftertaste) but if you eat organic like me then something this sweet and fluffy probably won’t make your day.
But hey, it’s only like $4 for a box, so be brave and try a box for yourself. If you don’t have the guts to share in my misery, then at least pick up another flavor and tell me what you think! The Lemon Cake and Chocolate Cake ones might be better!
I love the fresh-picked raspberry garnish…as if pairing them with diet twinkies somehow makes a healthy snack. Seriously though, my fave WW treat is the giant fudge bar…and even Aldi’s knock-off is good too.
I’ve tried most of the Weight Watchers snacks (I used to attend meetings) and I found that the store bought cakes aren’t all that bad. Ok, nothing beats the real thing that’s for sure. But I found it to be a pretty good alternative. The chocolate one is my favorite and the muffins are great too. I liked the ones you reviewed too but since I am a chocolate freak, I’m partial to the other one. I didn’t realize about the aluminum. Yikes, I should read the labels more carefully. Its portioned controlled too. But Weight Watchers food is an acquired taste. LOL
