Maxi over Mini? Let’s Weigh In!
I was reading an article on the New York Times fashion page about the uprising of the maxi dress; the mini is “out” and street style reflects this.
Me personally? In pictures, I would choose the Maxi Dress for it’s class (skin coverage) and comfort factors but on my short 5’2ish stature, somewhere between the mini and the maxi looks best on my frame. Believe me, I have tried Maxi Dresses on aaaaaaand I am almost always guaranteed that it will be dragging and I would have to bring it to my tailor. Doesn’t mean I don’t LOVE some of the prints that are hitting the stores… or that I won’t buy one to go with my bathing suit!
When it comes to Mini Dresses, I am not sure that I am ever 100% comfortable in them. They are sure to be more show stopping than a Maxi Dress and more suitable for formal occasions plus let’s not forget that there are gorgeous heels (you know you own them) that need to be shown off. Case in point: I just bought a mini dress yesterday. Hey, I have a wedding to go to!
I guess it would depend on the day whether or not I would shout MAXI! or MINI!
So what do you think is the better fashion fit for you? Maxi or Mini or somewhere in between?
I’m definitely a maxi girl – but I’m also 5’8″. Maxi dresses go anywhere, can be dressed up or down and never make me feel over exposed. Try hemming the maxi to about 3″ above your ankle and add a pair of wedge sandals for instant height.
When I’m not pregnant, I can usually pull off any length. I am 5’3″ so the shorter dresses look better on me and make my legs looks longer, but I really love maxi dresses best. I do have trouble finding maxi dresses that are the right length, but I don’t let that stop me. Some are way too long, but if I like it bad enough, I’ll buy it and hem it.
Since being pregnant, I don’t like anything on my waist. I can’t wear maternity jeans, pants, skirts or anything, so I’ve pretty much been living in dresses – mainly maxi dresses. Ones that would normally be a little too long, are lifted up several inches by my constantly growing belly and huge butt! lol
I love maxis on other people…I am short 5’4 and don’t look right in them. I am all about the minis for myself!
Maxi dresses on a 5’3 woman???Ha ha,no way.I prefer shorter dresses,but not too short.
