  1. Boyfriend got me the Canon Power Shot 10.0 Megapixel Digital Camera for Christmas. I was having the same “blurry” frustration and after a mini meltdown in Vegas when I couldn’t focus on a statue, he decided it was time I got a new camera! The Canon takes BEAUTIFUL pictures and it is reasonably priced at around $200.

  2. Would love to hear this as well. I dropped my canon while on vacation and the lenses won’t completely close and retract anymore leaving me with blurry pics at best. So I’m in the market for a new camera.

  3. When it comes to DSLRs there are soooo many options now it’s insane. I bought mine (Pentax k100d) about 3 years ago and it was about $550… Now there are ones with better specifications for the same price.

I would suggest going with a true camera company (not Sony. Stay far away from Sony. FARRRRR away.) like Nikon, Canon, or Pentax. They’re all really good cameras and you’ll definitely get your moneys worth. Pentax is less popular than Nikon and Canon which means fewer options when it comes to lenses but they’re great cameras and I love mine.

Don’t get caught up in megapixels because unless you’re going to be making enormous prints of your photos 6 MP would be enough… But you’re not going to find any DSLR with only 6 anymore. Pretty sure the lowest I saw was 10.

Basically if you’re choosing between Nikon, Canon, and Pentax DSLRs you’re going to get a great camera. The lowest ones price-wise are between $500 and like $650. That includes the kit lens generally speaking.

If there’s an independent camera store by your house you can go talk to someone there because they know more than I do. Also Popular Photography is a good resource. Once you have some idea of what you want you can look on eBay too.

  4. I recently bought a new camera not a DSLR but that’s what I wanted until I stumbled across the Sony Cybershot DSC-TX7. I owned a previous cybershot that was nice but when I came across the TX7 I was impressed with all the upgrades and improvements. This camera can use an SD disk or the Sony pro duo disk I thought that was a very neat improvement. Another thing the quality of the pictures are amazing. The colors are so vivid and when you turn on the camera you don’t have to wait for it to load it is ready to go. I would strongly recommend the cybershot TX7. The camera costs about $399 and I was very pleased upgrading from my previous cybershot to this one.

  5. Mine is the Olympus E520. It was reasonably priced. I went to the camera store and they said for the money…it was a better camer than the cannon or the Nikon in that price range. Like you I wasn’t doing anything professional with it and I LOVE it. I still have to learn how to use it better…lol but I like it.
