Let’s be honest—life has felt like a rollercoaster the last few years. As moms, we’ve had to navigate shutdowns, shifting schedules, tough conversations, and a hundred unknowns while still trying to get dinner on the table. And somewhere in the middle of it all, we realized something: we’re not just managing our families—we’re leading them.
That can feel heavy, especially when we don’t have all the answers. But leading your family doesn’t mean having it all figured out. It means showing up with intention. It means choosing purpose over panic, even when things feel shaky.
For me, it starts with asking, What kind of family are we becoming? What matters most to us? For some, it’s faith. For others, it’s kindness, resilience, or truth. Whatever your family values are—write them down. Talk about them out loud. Let your kids hear you say, “This is who we are.”
From there, build simple rhythms. Not strict schedules (because let’s face it, those rarely go as planned), but anchors that hold your family together. Maybe it’s praying at breakfast, a Friday night pizza tradition, or reading a chapter of a book together each night. These little things remind your kids that even if the world is uncertain, your love and presence are not.
And don’t underestimate conversation. Your kids feel the weight of the world, even if they don’t say it. Create space to talk—and listen. Be okay with not having every answer. Just being there, open and calm, gives them security.
Also, be mindful of what you’re allowing into your heart and home. If you’re constantly plugged into headlines or scrolling through chaos online, that anxiety trickles into your parenting. Protect your peace. Turn off the noise when you need to. Choose to fill your space with truth, joy, and hope.
And finally, please don’t try to do it all alone. Ask for help. Find a community and let that community come alongside you. Leadership isn’t about being the strongest—it’s about knowing when to lean on others and when to rest, and rest is essential to good leadership.
You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be present. Lead with love, lead with purpose, and trust that God’s got you, and your family, nothing is taking Him by surprise.
