Did you know that June is National Safety Month? What better time than now to talk about safety tips, especially when it comes to mischievous toddlers?!
The safety of your little one is paramount and as a parent or guardian, you have to take the necessary measures to ensure your kid is secure and as safe as possible. Whether you are overprotective or not, it is impossible to be with your kiddo all the time to ensure they are as safe as possible. Of course, you have different chores and tasks that need your attention. It is always easy for your little one to escape your eyes especially when they are psyched up and want to spend their time with their toys or playing outside. In this case, you need to ensure that you have put up the necessary measures that will keep your kiddo as safe as possible whether you are watching over him or not.
So today I want to give you some tips that will help you keep your child as safe as possible and also share some important information from Window Covering Safety Council.
Kids and Cords Don’t Mix!
If your home is filled with corded blinds, it might seem like a big undertaking to replace them all with cordless blinds, but it’s one of the top 5 hidden hazards in American homes.
You absolutely need to have cordless window blinds in homes with young children to avoid the risk of strangulation.
Spring is the perfect time to update your home! With this beautiful weather, we all have our windows open so we can air out the house, so it’s the perfect time to take a look at your current window coverings and seriously think about upgrading to safer cordless blinds.
It’s easy to make the upgrade and is something most parents can easily tackle by themselves in a weekend. When you head into the store to select new window coverings, cordless window options can easily be identified by the Best for Kids™ certification label. Best for Kids products are currently available at most major retailers across the country.

Because of the passing of a new safety standard in December 2018, it’s difficult to find corded window coverings in retailers. Now, if you wish to specifically purchase corded window coverings you must special-order these fixtures directly through manufacturers. It’s more convenient than ever to easily purchase cordless window coverings as a result of this new safety standard!
So if you have corded blinds or other corded window coverings in rooms where your children are allowed to go, then it’s incredibly important to upgrade to safer, inaccessible cord window blinds or cordless shades ASAP!
Don’t wait to find out the hard way. It only takes a few seconds for something like dangling cords to turn into a fatal disaster. Don’t risk it! Start shopping for cordless blinds right now. Click here for more details and child-proofing resources.
Safety On The Slides

To start with, if your kiddo always want to spend his or her time on slides, it can be dangerous if you are not with him or her. After all, can we blame him or her for wanting to be on the slide all the time? It is always fun using a slide, right? The first thing to do is ensuring that your kiddo is dressed for the event. Make sure your kiddo has comfortable clothes that will help in making the experience comfortable. Secondly, ensure the slide is easily accessible. This calls for you to ensure the ladder is easy to use for your kiddo. Make sure the ladder has small gaps to ensure your kiddo does not get stuck. Finally, wash the slide after your kiddo is through with his or her session using disinfectants. You can check out safety tips for purchasing the best toddler slide before making a decision.
Cycling Safety Tips
Kids love cycling and the bike can be a source of injuries if you aren’t careful. To start with ensure your kid’s bike is in good condition. Inspect whether all the parts of the bike are in good conditions before allowing your kid to ride it. Check if the brake, tires, paddles are working well. It is also important to invest in the right cycling gear. Make sure your kid has a helmet, knee and elbow caps before they embark on a cycling adventure. Never allow your little one to cycle without putting on his safety gears.
Utilize Baby Safety Gates
We all know how kids can be touchy; they want to touch everything on their reach. A baby fence comes in handy in ensuring your kiddo is always as safe as possible. Use the baby fence to keep your kiddo away from kitchen and other dangerous areas of your house or compound. Barricade the swimming pool to ensure that your little one does not access the pool when you are not around.
Swimming Safety Tips

Speaking of the swimming pool, ensure your kid has the right swimming materials to make it easy for him to learn to swim. Invest in flotation devices to make sure your child does not drown in the pool. Insist on using the swim noodle or swim fins to protect your little one from drowning. Always ensure that your kiddo is accompanied by an adult when swimming. No matter how old they are, they should always be supervised by an adult.
Buy Bed Rails
Your kid’s bedroom can be a risky area that may lead to injuries. He or she might fall out of the bed leading to injuries. To avoid falling out of the bed, use bed rails. These will guard your little one from falling on the floor in the middle of night. Our favorite bed rails are definitely Magic Bumpers. We have one in our king size bed for when we cosleep, one in our toddler’s bed so he doesn’t fall, and one in our older child’s twin bed because she tosses and turns a lot in the night! You’re never too old for safety!
Keep Danger Out of Reach
Medicines and other poisonous products should always be kept from the reach of a little one. Your kiddo might not be aware of the dangers posed by medicines, after all, most toddler medicines are sweet! They could take them without your knowledge when you are busy with other chores and you wouldn’t know what happened until they started acting abnormally. To make sure your kid is as safe as possible, ensure you keep prescriptions, medicines, vitamins, herbs, and poisonous substances out of your child’s reach. Also, be sure to keep the keys where they cannot access them either! Toddlers can be so mischievous.

Safety Is Important!
As you can see, there are numerous ways that you can ensure that your kid remains as safe as possible whether indoors or outdoors. Always strive to make sure you give your kid a secure environment to avoid injuries.
The above tips can be a great starting point, use them as you improve your kiddo’s safety and security.
