Whether you are a romantic couple, that likes to push the boat out on special occasions, and plans romantic surprises in between, or you prefer to show your feelings in subtler ways, your wedding anniversary is important. It marks how far your relationship has grown and developed, even since you got married. It’s your chance to look back over the last year of your marriage and celebrate everything that you have done, or even the hurdles that you have overcome. Of course, it’s also a chance to remember the happiest day of your life with the person that you love, to make a fuss of each other and to celebrate the love that you share. What could be better?
But, not all married couples can manage the lovely weekend spa breaks or romantic nights in luxury hotels. In fact, many young, married couples are also part of a young family. They’ve got kids in tow, and even getting out for dinner can be difficult. If your children are very young, you might not want to get out even if you’ve got the opportunity. Instead, you might prefer to find ways to celebrate your anniversary at home. But, that doesn’t mean that you can’t have the wonderfully romantic day that your marriage deserves.

Start on the Right Foot
Breakfast in bed is the perfect way to start your special day. It sets the tone, it puts you in a good mood, and even if you’ve got to head to work straight after, it’ll put a smile on your face for the rest of the day. If you are short on time, a simple glass of orange juice and some cereal in bed can be enough.
If breakfast in bed isn’t possible in a house filled with young kids, have a special breakfast all together at the table, perhaps pancakes and fruit.
Find the Perfect Gift
The perfect Wedding anniversary gifts certainly don’t need to be the most expensive. Instead, spend time putting thought into your gift, not just throwing money at it. Think of something that your partner will love, and that means something to you both.
Cook a Special Meal
Going out for a meal is always an excellent way to spend time with a loved one. It’s a chance to chat away from distractions, and to enjoy great food and drink. There’s no reason that you can’t do this at home. If one of you usually cooks, swap, or cook something together. Prepare either your favorite meal or something a little more adventurous or interesting and serve it with a nice bottle of wine.
Set the Table
This special meal shouldn’t be served on the sofa. The atmosphere of a restaurant is almost as important as the food. So, focus on this at home too. Set the table with a tablecloth and placemats. Add candles and decoration, and even go as far as turning the TV off and leaving your phones in the other room. Give the food, and of course your partner, your full attention.
Dress Up
You might feel a little silly at the idea of dressing up for a meal in your home dining room. But, you’ll soon forget as you start to enjoy yourself. There’s something very romantic about making an effort for someone else. So both put your best outfits on, it’s a date after all.
