4 Questions to Ask Before Booking Your Skip Bin

You want to book a skip bin hire, but you’re not sure what company to go with. How do you know which one is right for you?

Here are some questions you should ask before you make a booking.

  1. Where does the bin company take your waste?

Legally, skip bin companies are supposed to take your rubbish to a licensed facility that will sort it into different materials which can then be recycled or reused depending on what they are.

However, there are some dishonest companies out there that don’t always do the right thing and if they are caught you could be fined for hiring them. So always be sure to ask for a receipt so you know where your rubbish is going.

  1. Is the company part of any industry associations? 

This is a good question to establish the legitimacy of the business you’re dealing with. If they are a member of the Green Building Council, you can be assured they will deal with your rubbish in an environmentally friendly way.

  1. Do they take any precautions to ensure they don’t damage your driveway?

Skip bins are heavy, giant steel containers. There is every chance setting one down in your drive is going to damage it, especially during the unloading and loading processes.

A proper skip bin company will utilize boards and place them on your drive under the bin. This helps to ensure that while the bin is being placed and removed it won’t scrape or drag across the drive. 

  1. Do they offer a wait-and-load service?

This is a great question to ask if you don’t have the space on your property for a skip bin and you aren’t able to get council approval for having one placed on a nature strip or road.

A wait-and-load service is when the bin is dropped off and the lorry driver waits anywhere from 30–60 minutes before picking it up again.
