Spending time relaxing is every individual’s right, for the good of their health and well-being, but it’s a concept many people can struggle with. How can you relax when you have so much to do, a neverending chore-list, and a busy schedule, and you find it impossible to switch your brain off, even if you had the time? Finding ways to relax at home is a great way to find free and simple ways to try and concentrate on self-care whenever you can.
If you’re unsure where to start when it comes to relaxation at home, here are four ways you can find that balance this spring.
1. Schedule in Time to Relax
It may sound a little silly, but making an appointment with yourself is often a great way to find time to relax. If you’re trying to see when you’ll have time, it’ll probably never happen. Some people might need to treat it as an official appointment in order to make sure they don’t forget or flake out on it.
So you might want to choose a day off or an evening you know you’ll have free to make plans for a little self-care and some relaxation methods.
2. Engage in Exercises to Calm Your Mind and Body
It can be very difficult to switch off during a busy lifestyle, and relaxation can often be more complicated than it should be. That’s why breathing exercises and methods to relax your mind and body will help you to get in the right frame of mind.
Meditation, even for a few minutes, is a great way to try to empty your mind a little and find calm. Yoga is also a great home exercise you can do to stretch out the kinks, focus on breathing, and feel more relaxed. All you’ll need is a trusty yoga mat or an extra thick yoga mat if you like a little more cushioning to get in the right frame of mind.

When you’re done doing yoga, make yourself a cup of hot tea or collagen latte drink. It’s a great way to unwind and calm yourself down after a hard day’s work.
3. Have a Day that Doesn’t Involve Other Responsibilities
It’s easy to think you’ll just pop a load of laundry on or tick a few items off your to-do list before you settle down to relax, but trying to do little bits throughout the day means you’re not going to be fully focused on relaxation. Try to leave any other responsibilities to another day or time-frame and just take an allotted time only for relaxation.
4. Set the Scene
No matter how you’re choosing to relax, the environment around you is going to make a difference to your mentality. Whether it’s enjoying a hot bubble bath, putting your feet up with a movie night, or getting into bed early with a book, it’s important to have everything around you calm and suited to your mood. You’ll find it difficult to relax if you’re trying to have a bubble bath next to a pile of dirty laundry, for example.
Therefore, think about extras around the room, like clearing the space, scented candles, warm ambient lighting, shutting off all other distractions, and making it as cozy as possible.
Follow these four tips as a great starting point to find your own relaxation.
