While most people know what they have to do to clean the floors of their home, what would be really great is knowing what you can do preventatively that will make it so you don’t actually have to go through the processes of cleaning your floors so often.
So while it’s always good to get deep cleaning done on your carpet or other flooring, here are three home cleaning tips that will help you keep your floors cleaners so you don’t have to do so much of the daily cleaning that you may have to keep up with currently.
Prevent Messes In The First Place
As with all things, the best way to avoid having to do major cleanup on your flooring is to prevent big messes from getting there in the first place.
To do this, Good Housekeeping recommends that you think about the entrances and exits of your home. Generally, these areas will be where a lot of the mess and debris from outside gets tracked into your house. To minimize this, you should put floor mats down on both the interior and exterior sides of your doors. Additionally, if you have pets, make sure they are cleaned from anything visible or particularly dirty before they come into your house. And, as always, do your best to clean up small messes that happen inside during the day so they don’t accumulate into larger messes.
Create A No Shoe Policy
While having floor mats by your doors is a great way to cut down on anything that might get tracked into your house, what’s going to take this idea to the next level is keeping your shoes off your flooring entirely.
According to MarthaStewart.com, things like E. coli and other bacteria can easily be transferred from your shoes onto the floor of your home. Then, if you pick something up off the ground, it’s easy to see how this bacteria can spread all over the place. So to keep things like this from happening and to drastically reduce the amount of dirt that you have coming into your home, it’s a good idea to just have a no shoes policy for anyone entering your home.
Get A Vacuum You Like
When messes do happen, as they will, you should try to make the cleaning process as simple and painless as possible so that you’re more likely to take care of things quickly.
One way to do this, according to Jolie Kerr, a contributor to the New York Times, is to get a vacuum that you like and enjoy using. Even if it’s not the nicest or fanciest vacuum on the market, if it’s easy for you to get out and around your home, you’re going to be much more likely to use it on a regular basis to keep your flooring clean.
If you need some help keeping the floors of your home cleaner, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you accomplish this goal.
