TJ Maxx Style Scout Blogger Challenge – Stripes!

The Fashionable Housewife teamed up with A Few Goody Gumdrops recently to take part in the Maxx Style Scout Blogger Challenge. We were given a $100 gift card to shop at T.J. Maxx (our FAVORITE store!) and were sent on a mission to create a designer outfit for less based on the spring trend of black and white stripes.

Here is a snippet from our experience:

I am SO honored to have had the opportunity to work with A Few Goody Gumdrops and TJ Maxx. I had an awesome time shopping in TJ’s (as I always do!) and I’m so amazed that we put together this fabulous outfit for $100! I am most excited about the ultra cool denim and leather biker jacket that was on sale. It’s so gorgeous and I will be able to style it in a million other outfits!

I saw so many things in TJ Maxx that were both totally on trend and very affordable. I could have spent many more hours in the store than I did because there was just so much to see! I will definitely be heading back there this coming week to grab a few more things including some home decor items for my living room that I am re decorating.

TJ Maxx has amazing designer items for a lot less than department stores, so you can leave knowing you will look like a million bucks but didn’t have to spend a million bucks!

My 15 Minute Everday Makeup Routine

My go-to eyeshadow palette for the past few months has been Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette. It’s part of my 15 minute, everyday makeup routine and my results are always stellar. (At least I think so!)

If you follow me on Instagram and check out my outfits, you see I’m always always wearing a mix of at least 2-4 eyeshadow shades from the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette. It’s my go-to palette that has the best mix of colors for everyday wear. It’s easy to look classy with any of the neutral eyeshadows in this palette.

Here is my 15 minute beauty routine…

I start with a BB Cream (like UD Naked Skin or Miracle Skin Transformer) or a liquid foundation (like Covergirl)
Next I dab Urban Decay eyshadow primer potion on my eyelids
Then I use 2-4 colors from the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette on my eyelids
I line my upper and lower lids with Tarte EmphasEYES™ Aqua-Gel Eyeliner or Line Fix Gel Eyeliner Pencil from Cailyn Cosmetics
My favorite mascara is definitely Covergirl Lashblast Mascara although I have a few others I like too like Boots No7 Exquisite Curl Mascara in Black, CoverGirl LashBlast Length Mascara and Maybelline Volum’ Express Colossal Mascara.
Finally, I finish with Mally’s Perfect Red Lips kit. If I’m going for a less dramatic look, I opt for a lip stain.

Outfit Ideas: Neon Jeans with Oxfords

I surfed Pinterest to get some ideas of what to wear with oxfords and decided I would just do my own thing… No use in searching for how to wear oxfords when I can just put them on with something cute and see if it works! It’s sunny, in the 50′s outside so it felt like a neon jeans kind of day. Enter a cool motorcycle tee and a chambray button down for my casual weekend look. I think the oxfords work with this outfit, how about you?

I went “all out” and spent 20 minutes doing a smokey eye with Urban Decay Smoked Palette and my new favorite mascara – Boots No7 Exquisite Curl Mascara in Black – $8.

BB Beauty Balm Cream – What’s The Best?

Are you looking for the best BB cream for oily skin? Which BB cream brand is the best? Have you been searching for the best rates BB cream in the US? Well, we tried a bunch of Beauty Balm Creams to see which ones rated the best in our book!

1. Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm

At the number one spot is Urban Decay! It is hands down the best BB cream tinted moisturizer I have ever tried. Period. It is the perfect shade, blends into skin seamlessly while minimizing the appearance of pores, lines, wrinkles and redness instantly. It even promises significantly firmer, more lifted skin in 8 weeks. Hell, I don’t even care about that part! I just LOVE how my skin looks after I put this on. It’s the main component of my 5-minute 5-product beauty routine. It’s a must-have for ALL skin types! I highly recommend it!!!!

2. Miracle Skin Transformer BB Cream

Really not in second place at all, this is truly another favorite of mine and I would buy it in bulk if it were just a tiny bit more affordable! This five-in-one formula is designed to hydrate, prime, enhance, mattify, and protect skin in a single step. It goes on smoother than any other BB cream I’ve tried, looks totally natural, protects your skin with SPF 20 and leaves your face looking refreshed, rather than weighed down. I also like this one because it’s available in 8 shades!

3. Stila Stay All Day® 10-In-One Beauty Balm

I like this one because it has a touch of shimmer to it that illuminates the skin and gives you an amazing “glow” that looks natural – not sparkly. It’s an all-in-one, high-definition, age-defying beauty balm that is packed with broad-spectrum SPF 30 and ready for action. This would be my “date night” BB cream pick because the added touch of shimmer that illuminates skin is my idea of “dressing up” considering my busy-mom lifestyle. I found that this one was also good for oily skin and did not clog my pores. Bonus! I recommend this one for sure.

4. Clinique Age Defense BB Cream

If you have mature skin (35+) and you are looking for a double-duty BB cream that will not only make you look great today, but help improve your skin for tomorrow, then you will want to try Clinique’s Age Defense BB Cream. I am a huge fan of almost ALL CLinique products and this one is no exception. Expertly shaded to match so many skin tones and yet, it’s available in three shades, just in case you want to get picky. Goes on smooth, hide fine lines and feels light as a feather. Perfect for the spring and summer months. I definitely recommend it!

5. Perfekt Skin Perfection Gel

Last but certainly not least is this multitasking all-in-one vitamin enriched, sweat-resistant and water-resistant skin perfector that is a lot like a BB cream. It glides on skin effortlessly to instantly improve your skin tone all while reducing redness and helping to minimize the appearance of enlarged pores and fine lines. It’s one of my favorites but I have to put it in spot number 5 because of the price alone! It’s $57.50 for just 1 oz!!!! Still, it’s one of my favorites and I recommend it for all skin types.

Urban Decay’s ‘Oz The Great and Powerful’ Eyeshadow Palettes

I know I’m not the only one that is excited to see the new Disney movie Oz The Great and Powerful. The commercials have been on practically every station and I am just so excited! I can’t wait to see the movie!!
