Celeb Style: Who Wore it Better?

With an endless array of designer brands, it’s still shocking to me that celebs get “caught” wearing the same item as another… especially when it’s even in the same color! For today’s Who Wore it Better, we’re comparing Stephanie Pratt of The Hills and Giuliana Ransic of E! News.

Undoubtedly, they both look truly stunning in this dress (the Vanessa Babydoll from Voom by Joy Han). Stephanie paired this blue pleated tube dress with a gold Gustto clutch, Vita Fede jewelry and nude peep-toe pumps for a night out in LA. While hosting E! News Live, Giuliana wore the same dress but opted for strappy heels and understated accessories.

You’ve seen them both, now take your pick! Who wore it better?

SO YOU THINK YOU’VE GOT STYLE? HARPER’S BAZAAR WANTS YOU, AND THIS TIME, IT’S PERSONAL!

LEGENDARY FASHION MAGAZINE LAUNCHES NATIONWIDE SEARCH FOR THE WOMAN WITH THE BEST PERSONAL STYLE

Grand Prize Winner Receives $10,000 Shopping Spree Provided by Saks Fifth Avenue

NEW YORK, February 12, 2010 – A woman of great style is easy to spot: she’s effortlessly chic, in slinky eveningwear or skinny jeans; she mixes the newest, fashion-forward pieces with her own timeless classics and she’s always comfortable in her own skin.  Most of all, her ensembles reflect her personality and spirit. Harper’s Bazaar celebrates stylish women each month in its pages – in March, the magazine highlights British model Poppy Delevigne’s artisto-bohemian vibe, Texas socialite Lynn Wyatt’s sophisticated elegance, and Katie Couric’s glam power dressing. Now, the editors are looking for a new style icon – and it could be you.

Harper’s Bazaar’s Personal Style Competition is looking for one fabulously stylish winner, who will receive a trip to New York City, a photo shoot to be published in a future issue of Harper’s Bazaar and a $10,000 shopping spree provided by Saks Fifth Avenue, one of the world’s preeminent specialty retailers of American and international designers.

“At Harper’s Bazaar, we believe that fashion should be fun and above all, reflect a woman’s individuality and point of view,” said editor in chief Glenda Bailey.  “We celebrate women who make great style a way of life.”

Readers are invited to nominate themselves or other women with outstanding personal style by completing the online entry form at www.harpersbazaar.com/personalstylecontest.  Entries must include one close-up color photo of the face and three color full-body photos, each taken within the previous two years, as well as a testimonial of 50 words or less describing why the person being entered has brilliant personal style and deserves to win. Deadline for submissions is March 30, 2010.  One female, 21 years or older, will be chosen as the winner of the Harper’s Bazaar Personal Style Competition.

I would love to hear about some of you entering this contest… wouldn’t it be fabulous if a TFH reader won?!?!

Getting Red Carpet Ready Hair: The Brazilian Blowout

I have a not-so-little secret: I hate my hair. In 23 years, I’ve grown to accept it (because really, what choice do I have?), but it’s an unruly pile of frizzy curls… and it has been ever since I was born.

Like every other girl in the world, I wanted what I couldn’t have: straight hair. Actually, I didn’t even want it to be straight; I just wanted it to be less curly. Of course, as I got older, it got even curlier.

I think the worst hair experience I ever had was when I was about ten. I went to a salon with my mother and asked for my hair to be cut to my shoulders with layers. She did just that… literally. I walked around looking like Bozo the clown for long enough to stop really trusting stylists. When I was around sixteen, I started cutting my own hair (and still do to this day) and dying it. I had tried before to tame down the curl – I’ve gotten relaxers, straightening treatments, even large-roller perms – but none of it did the trick.

Flash forward to now. My hair?

Still curly. And I’d pretty much come to accept that as a fact of life until Shareena Reardon came along. A stylist at the Eminently Hair Salon (and a great blogger in her own right!), Shareena was looking to get the Brazilian Blowout into the Aveda salon she’s at. She needed a test subject, and I was more than happy to oblige.

What, you ask, is the Brazilian Blowout? It’s a professional smoothing treatment out of Brazil (bet you could’ve guessed that one…) that softens curls and actually improves the health of your hair. PLUS, instead of giving you the look of overgrown roots like perms or chemical straighteners, the Brazilian Blowout fades out of your hair in 6-8 weeks, so you’re back to your natural hair style and texture.

My results were impressive to say the least. The entire experience wasn’t absolutely amazing (there is some burning in your eyes when they’re sealing the treatment into your hair), but at 90 minutes with the extreme results, it was worth every second.

Runway to Real Way: Ralph Lauren Spring 2010

Sure, staring at runway shots is fun, but when it comes to turning that into a real life outfit? Not so easy. That’s where “Runway to Real Way” comes in!

We’ll take one outfit and recreate it (or something like it… because not everything on the runway is wearable for everyday life), offering you a new look that will cost hundreds less than the trendy option!

Here’s our first take: a shot from the Ralph Lauren Spring/Summer 2010 Runway Show. As runway outfits go, this one is relatively easy to wear, and won’t require total recreation… just a little creativity!

Runway to Real Way, Part 1

Hollister.com: La Jolla Cove Button Down ($40)
Forever 21: Cuffed Blazer ($22.80)
Buckle.com: Big Star Boyfriend Jeans ($118)
Aldo: HELOM Shoes ($39.98)
Diesel: Felox Hat ($18.00)

Total Cost: $238.78

By keeping the prices low, you can get a full outfit, including shoes and a super cute hat, for under $250… a small percentage of the runway style next to it!

Make your own twists to it by adding accessories, carrying a brightly colored handbag, spicing up your makeup or even trying a new manicure/pedicure color! The options are virtually endless, so there’s no need to worry about looking stale in this outfit.

logo2TULLE is a fresh, new store that offers vintage-esque pieces that are affordable and totally in style. TULLE, is soooo me. Their clothing is just so refreshing. It’s like Audrey Hepburn/Jackie-O style with a modern twist. I had a hard time deciding what to get!

Check out some of their Looks for awesome Outfit Ideas. They also have a section filled with Customer’s FavoriteCustomer’s Favorite so you can see what the most popular items are on their website.

tulle_topI had to have this Sleeveless Sweater with Collar… This sunshine yellow color totally took me in. You can’t help but feel good when you see such a sunny color!

I was so pleased when I received it! It was even nicer in person, then in the pictures. It’s a very flattering cut and the material is softer than I expected. It hangs nicely on the body and is just a great color. I can’t wait to wear this when the weather gets a little bit warmer.

I’m tempted to buy this Kimono Sleeve Cardigan in the same color… It’s made out of the same soft material in that beautiful marigold color. Love it!

tulle_skirtThe other item I found that I couldn’t live without is this gorgeous Pleated Skirt. It has that beautiful yellow band across the bottom, balanced by the perfect shade of gray. It’s just right for a Spring day with some nude pumps and a light gray cardigan or blouse.

Check out Tulle’s Spring 2009 Collection. They have gorgeous Trench Coats and pretty Tulip Dresses. You’ll be hard pressed to find something you don’t like on their website! Everything is just soooo cute and sophisticated!
