Best Razor Ever – Gillette Venus Embrace

The new Gillette Venus Embrace has 5 blades to give you the closest shave ever.

I like the Gillette Venus razors over any other brand specifically because of the rounded head and moisture strip that goes all the way around the head. I’m not a huge fan of shaving, nor am I a connoisseur on razors, but I can say without a doubt that this is the best razor I’ve ever used. It’s hard for me to even imagine that every woman in the world doesn’t already know that Gillette is the best. If there are any of you out there that aren’t already loyal fans of Gillette, than that’s because you’ve never tried the Venus Embrace!

The five curve-hugging blades individually adjust to stay in contact with your skin, even around tricky areas like your knees, ankles, and bikini area. You don’t have to use the Gillette Satin Care Shave Gel to get the perfect shave, but the two products definitely work better together. (Plus the Satin Care Shave Gel comes in some pretty yummy scents like Alluring Avocado and Lavender Kiss!) When I used both the Embrace razor and the Satin Care shaving gel together, I got an incredibly close and smooth shave. I can now go almost 3 days without shaving again!

Gillette Venus Embrace Refill Cartridges are about $15 for a box of 4 cartridges. I don’t love the pricetag, but they are worth it. Razors are one of those necessary evils that cost more than you want it to, but ends up being totally worth it in the end. I replace the cartridge on my razor every 4 – 6 weeks. I don’t know if that is normal or average, but it works for me! Obviously the more you shave, the sooner the blades will become dull. With the Embrace having 5 blades though, it seems to not get dull quite as quickly.

When it comes to razors, you absolutely without a doubt, get exactly what you pay for. I have never used a cheap razor or disposable razor that I didn’t either cut myself with or had to throw away after 1 use. I personally don’t even see the point in a disposable razor unless you went on vacation and forgot your beloved razor at home.

I’m going to continue using my new and retire my well loved and very well used Gillette Venus Divine (only 3 blades).

Smooth Away Unwanted Hair In Minutes

While waiting in line at my local Target I spied this little gem between the candy and batteries on an impulse display. I thought, “Boy, I DO hate shaving” and into my cart it went. Smooth Away Hair Removal Set works by buffing down your stubble so it is no longer as visible.

The kit comes with a small holder and a large holder, along with several sticky-backed buffing sheets. I have seen the concept for Smooth Away before, but this time looked a lot more appealing, given the addition of the mini-buffer and an actual ‘handle’ instead of just a piece of glorified sandpaper. I say sandpaper because that is exactly what it is. The sheets of “buffing crystals” are even made by 3M (who make sandpaper!!).

I started my trial on my leg with about two days worth of growth. I placed the Smooth Away in my palm and began to go in slow, circular motions. With my other hand I checked the results. Not too shabby! Granted, it was not as smooth as you would get with a razor, and there was there was a dusting of dead skin (think sanding a table- EW!), but it was a lot easier and faster than shaving.

After doing both legs, I think this would be ideal for wintertime, when my legs are not on display. For summer I feel it does not get my legs as smooth as I would like, however, it would definitely be acceptable if you don’t have time to shave. So I moved on to my arm. Some people do not remove their arm hair, but I do. It’s not even aesthetic, I just like a smooth arm. The Smooth Away is great for arm hair removal. I have decided I will use Smooth Away once a week to keep my arms hairless.

I saved the scariest part for last; facial hair. For the face, I used the mini-buffer that fits over your finger. I positioned myself so that I had plenty of light and began to very lightly remove my mustache. EXCELLENT! I did not even have to rub very hard, which I was worried about. It buffed away my mustache with no redness, swelling, or pain. Definitely an impulse buy I do not regret!

I paid $9.99 for my Smooth Away Hair Removal Set, which came with the 2 sizes of handle, and several refills. I have seen them at Target, Sally’s and Wal-Mart for the same price.

Tips On How To Get The Perfect Shave And Bikini Trim For Summer

There is probably only one thing worse than trying to keep your children under control in a tiny dressing room while you try to squiggle your way into a tiny swimsuit that makes your butt look flat and your thighs look three sizes bigger than they actually are. Retiring your teeny bikini and resorting to buy something more mom-ish is one thing, but having to tuck your unruly hairs into it is a completely different thing.

And at the other end you’ll find a waterproof, battery-powered trimmer – perfect for neatening up your bikini area. (And the blades on both ends are replaceable!)

It’s really easy to use. I ripped it out of the box, popped the (included) battery into it and jumped right into the shower to give it a try. I was a little nervous I might get my skin with the trimmer, but my fears went right away as soon as I started using it. I was so delighted that it was simple and straightforward to use. You don’t even need to read the instructions to figure it out. And, waaay easier than trying to trim down there with scissors… Hello!

I was able to get the area all neat and tidy in record time with no cuts or trauma! And the next day, no razor bumps either. The trimmer head is adjustable so you can get the desired length. Plus, you can remove the trimmers plastic cap entirely and use it without the cap to get an even shorter trim. I tried it both ways, with equally pleasing results.

Tips For A Perfect Shave

Shave Downward – Always shave your bikini line in the direction of the hair growth so you don’t end up with razor bumps and ingrown hairs.
Shaving Cream – Use lots of shaving cream when using a razor. Although the trimmer doesn’t need shaving cream, I do recommend using it in the shower while your skin in damp.
Exfoliate – Make your razor last longer by exfoliating your legs well before shaving. This will remove the dead, loose skin so it won’t end up clogging up your razor.
Rinse Often – Be sure to rinse out your razor with very hot water frequently while you are shaving. Rinse at 2x for each armpit and at least 8-10x per leg.
Moisturize – Make sure you keep your legs, underarms, and bikini area well moisturized. This will help decrease irritation from shaving.
Don’t Be Stingy – Replace your razor head after about 12-15 uses or once a month. If you notice it getting dull sooner, replace it sooner. Using a dull razor can give you ingrown hairs, razor bumps, and a really lousy shave.

eos In My Suitcase

Since I’ve been telling you all the things I brought in my suitcase, I thought I should tell you the things that made it into my suitcase that I put in smaller, travel size containers to save space.

One thing I brought in a little container, that I am so glad I took with me was eos Ultra Moisturizing Shave Cream in “Pomegranate Raspberry”.

If you read this blog often, you know how sensitive I am to shaving cream and razors. I am extremely picky because my skin is so darn sensitive to whatever I put on it. Well this shaving cream is so moisturizing and luxurious that I can get a close shave with not a single razor bump to be seen. I can even shave my legs several times in a week if I use this. Most of the time, I can only shave my legs once and then I have to wait 2 weeks to let it grow out before I can shave again, or else I get a horrible rash.

Not only is this the most gentle shaving cream, it’s effective and smells great. My favorite one is the Pomegranate Raspberry, but it also comes in Vanilla Bliss and Island Blue.
