Bradley Bayou Shares His Red Carpet Magic

This post Oscar season, we have looked all over for inspiration, looks and advice on what exactly we can do to achieve all that “Red Carpet Magic”.  We search high and low for what would be best for us, individually. We all have different complexions, body types and  “looks”. What is right for us?

Enter Couture Fashion Designer and Author, Bradley Bayou, who has worked with some of our favorite people (Anne Hathaway, Halle Berry, Beyonce Knowles, Megan Fox, Salma Hayek, Oprah Winfrey… and the list could go on… we have a lot of favorite people). Plus, he is awesomely knowledgeable on all that glamor.

Bradley Bayou

Bradley talks about his favorite looks from this past awards season as well as gives us the opportunity to explore what would be best for our version of the red carpet. Oooooh, Mama is excited. Ok, first let’s see what Bradley’s faves were:

“Halle Berry showed off her flawless figure in a Marchesa nude crystal-encrusted gown with ruffled train, Christian Louboutin peep-toes and 10-carat diamond Neil Lane earrings.  The sparkle and tulle on this gown are perfectly matched with minimal jewelry and natural makeup – as it is the gown that is the main attraction here.  Anyone with a triangle body shape can wear this silhouette. Since it is strapless with the tulle detail across the bust, it will create the illusion of a broader shoulder to balance a larger hip.  Also, since the tulle starts at the high hip and flutters asymmetrically to the floor, this will distract from larger hips.  I would recommend this gown for taller ladies, as you will need the height to balance this for a long lean look.”

“Scarlett Johansson accessorized her burgundy lace, backless Dolce & Gabbana column dress with Christian Louboutin pumps and Anna Hu Haute Joaillerie ruby, emerald and diamond dragon-motif jewels.  This look is reminiscent of Old Hollywood Glamour and perfect for Scarlett.  She pairs the sophisticated lace pattern with tousled playful locks to keep the look young and fresh.  She also kept the jewelry and makeup simple.  This silhouette is best suited for an hourglass shape.   It is fitted and shaped to hug the body not allowing for any fashion illusions or tricks – it is more what you see is what you get… although good under garments can go a long way!”

“Gwyneth Paltrow donned a fluid metallic Calvin Klein Collection column, Brian Atwood pumps and stick-straight strands. She finished the look with Louis Vuitton high jewelry earrings, ring and brooch.  I love the simplicity of the design of this gown matched with the complexity of the shine and texture.  Gwyneth paired simple make-up and minimum jewelry as to not compete with the gown.  I also love her bone straight hair – it is so modern and sleek.  This silhouette is best suited for an inverted triangle.  The neckline draws the eye in reducing the shoulder-line and the horizontal seam draws attention to the hips giving the illusion of an hourglass figure.  Given the lightweight and shine, this is a very difficult fabric to wear.  It will show every bump and flaw, so proceed cautiously and with proper under garments!”

“Natalie Portman showed off her growing baby bump in an off-the-shoulder, empire-waist violet Rodarte with Swarovski crystal beading, Jimmy Choo heels, a Roger Vivier clutch, and Tiffany & Co. jewelry.  The gown color was perfect for her complexion.  The wide V-neck focused attention on her face, then pulled in under her bust to give some shape before releasing and draping gracefully into an uneven hem, slightly higher in the front showing off a little leg and a sexy shoe.  This gown is perfect for anyone with a triangle shape.  The neckline details and wide V-neck give the illusion of a broader shoulder to balance a larger bottom half and create the illusion of an hourglass silhouette.  The loose draping quality of this style gown will hide a booty or belly.  It also has a defined empire waist and a front slit – two very flattering qualities for every body shape.”

Now on to us! It is obvious to me that Bradley Bayou knows what he is talking about. Not only is he respected as a designer but also as an author. Writer of The Science of Sexy, Bradley shows us how to dress for our unique figures, no matter what our size is. And as if that’s not enough? Bradley’s Red Carpet Questionnaire can help every woman achieve a Red Carpet look for her special occasion by answering the same questions Bradley asks his celebrity clientele when designing their couture gowns. What’s cooler than that? Yay! I’m game!

We are certainly excited to see what else Bradley has in store for us. I am definitely going to keep my eye on him. You can too! Visit Bradley Bayou’s Facebook Page or  Follow Bradley on Twitter to keep up to date on all of the latest and greatest!

Magazines Now Offering Affordable Fashion

If you’re like me, you look forward every year to the September issues of all the fashion magazines. I still love to read through them and look at the new trends for the season. Certain magazines I could never relate to, however, like Vogue and Bazaar because for one thing, the prices on the clothes were always way beyond my reach and just not practical for someone like me who is not wealthy!  Still they were nice to browse though and look at the great photography.

What I have noticed lately, is that magazines are starting to include fashions under $100 to cater to a larger audience due to the recession and unemployment. I’ve noticed Oprah magazine did it, Glamour, Lucky, etc.  They need to capture the audience of everyone who is being exceptionally frugal and decisive about their spending habits due to the recession.

We asked Lucia Moses, the Senior Editor of Media Week what she thought about all of this…
“clearly, retailers have to lower prices to get recession-spooked shoppers into stores again. Magazines like Vogue and Bazaar can’t ignore the fact the even their wealthier customers are being more careful with what they spend and have to respond accordingly, while still promoting the idea of sprucing up one’s wardrobe—especially key now during the all-important back-to-school and upcoming holiday seasons. At the same time, designers have realized they have to create more affordable clothing lines to keep consumers in a buying mindset, even if they’re not spending like they used to.”
I say, it’s about time!  Personally, I think there should be a section in ALL magazines EVERY month for affordable fashions or fashions under $100 or even $50.00 because let’s face it, that is the majority of the audience right now. I think it’s important even if there wasn’t a recession!

Have you noticed more magazines have sections like this? Frugal fashions or fashions under $100?

Donna Karen Panties & Shapewear As Seen On Oprah

Stacy London was recently on Oprah to share the bare necessities about underwear and how to make your butt look great in whatever you wear!

One of the products she featured on the show is the Donna Karan Mid Thigh Brief and the Donna Karan Capri Pants Shaper.

Donna Karan’s new Body Perfect Collection offers 2 levels of shaping in three different products. Constructed of stretch microfiber. Enhanced toning for complete body support. Shaping control from waist to mid-thigh. Extra support on the tummy. Precision-cut waist and leg edging. Eliminates the binding and bulge. Sleek, lightweight fabric, you won’t see it or feel it. Perfection taken to the next degree. Level 2 offers ultimate toning power from waist to mid-thigh, yet retains the same amazing comfort as Level 1. The silky fabric is as weightless as a second skin.

Article From Oprah.com

Stacy swears by this seamless body slimmer, part of the Donna Karan Body Perfect Collection. “It does several things—it shapes, it lifts and it smoothes,” Stacy says. “Ladies, who doesn’t want that?!”

While white pants are great for summer, Stacy says to be careful. Ideally, you should wear a thong—dark colors are a definite no-no, and white-on-white (left) does not work either.

So what’s the secret to wearing a white cotton pant? A nude-colored thong (right).

Stacy sacrifices her own behind to illustrate the most severe crime against style—visible panty lines and bunching (left). Stacy says any full-seat panty will ruin the line of a trouser that is well cut and narrow.

Her solution? A seamless boy short (right). Stacy says they provide perfect coverage and are a great alternative to thongs.

Stacy recommends these seamless boy shorts from Calvin Klein. Unlike the cotton underwear of yesteryear, Stacy says seamless boy shorts go over the butt and the top of the leg to create a completely smooth tush.

Sexy Date Bra featured on Oprah

American women are finally taking a cue from their French sisters and asserting the right to be sexy at any age no matter what their occupation.

Beautiful lingerie has become a must-have part of every woman’s wardrobe. The Oprah show named five must-have items of lingerieicon: a date bra, a plunge/cleavage bra, a strapless bra, an elegant camisole and a matching panty. Oprah picked the Marie Jo Avero Convertible Braicon, as the perfect date bra.

Are dates only for the young and single? Not at all. Many married women plan dates with their husbands and love to wear sexy lingerie. Wearing a matching bra and panty set changes a woman’s inner attitude, said Oprah on the show. The right lingerie can give her a sense of self-confidence. And it’s not just for the young. In Europe women are considered more sexually appealing as they age, because they gain in knowledge and experience.

“The Marie Jo Avero Collectionicon chosen by Oprah combines soft fabric with a beautiful embroidered lace and daisy motif,” says Tomima Edmark, lingerie expert and CEO of HerRoom.com, the exclusive online retailer for the Marie Jo Avero Collectionicon. “The convertible bra with contour cups is perfect for the fall fashion trends as it’s suitable for wearing under knits. It’s a great date bra because it can be worn with straps in the traditional manner, in a halter, or criss-cross styling.”
