Nails: OPI Yoga-Ta Get This Blue Nail Polish

Last week I was looking around online for OPI Chip Skip because I heard it was really good at preventing chipped nails. I found it on Amazon from a couple different sellers, but ultimately decided to get it from “BeautyLand4U” because it came with a bottle of OPI nail polish as well. It seemed like a better deal so I went for it and purchased OPI Yoga-ta Get This Blue (i47) & Chip Skip together for $12.25 + $2.00 S&H.

FYI: OPI is a professional product, it is only sold through salons. All other online (including amazon, ebay and and mass market/drug store retail is technically illegal.

As soon as it arrived, I filed my nails, buffed them, applied a layer of “Chip Skip” – a super thin and watery solution that dries really fast. Then I applied 2 coats of OPI Nail Lacquer “Yoga-Ta Get This Blue”. In the bottle when you hold it to the light, you can see green, aqua and purple speckles in the polish. When applied though, it’s just a shimmery navy blue. I finished it off with a coat of nails inc. Kensington Caviar Top Coat ($10).

It stayed on AMAZINGLY well for 6 days before I saw a chip. After 8 days, the tips of 4 nails were chipped off. I touched them up just on the ends, let it dry and then decided to throw on a coat of OPI Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night” – a shimmering, glittery blue. It looked like sparkling stars against a night sky, so I added two little gold nail stickers on my ring fingers as an accent.

My nails looked great for another 4 days before they started to fail. I was really impressed with the overall staying power of this at-home manicure.

What do you think of my manicure?

OPI Touring America “Get In The Expresso Lane” Nail Polish

The Touring America collection from OPI had some amazing colors in it. My favorite shade in the whole collection was definitely “Get In The Expresso Lane” – a creamy dark chocolaty espresso brown. It’s the perfect shade of brown and a great alternative to black. Perfect for Fall and Winter!

This is very shiny, even without a top coat. More shiny than most OPI shades. I used 2 coats, but you could get away with only one if you apply it right. It’s not too thin…

I really love this shade, BUT………. it’s staying power is less than acceptable. This is the third time I’ve tried it too. I’ve tried it with and without a base coat and with and without a top coat. Nothing seems to keep this nail polish on for more than 24 hours with chips starting. After a week, it’s completely disgraceful.

This is after 5 days…

That was 2 coats on top of Orly Primetime Primer Basecoat and a touch up coat on several nails after 2 days.

This seems to be the typical result the three times I’ve used this color. Not all OPI nail polish is like this. In fact, this is the first time this has happened to me, this bad. Most dark colors don’t last as long and are more likely to chip than light colors, but this one seems particularly bad.

Another color in the Touring America collection is “I Eat Mainely Lobster” and I’ve had that on my toes for about 3 weeks with no chips at ALL. It hasn’t even started wearing off on the edges.

So while I LOVE LOVE LOVE this color, it doesn’t make for a long lasting manicure. I would wear it for special occasions if I could polish my nails within 2-3 hours of the event.

OPI Shrek Forever After Collection of Bright Nail Lacquer Colors

I know everyone is all fired up about Sex and the City 2 and rightly so.  The girls…the fashion…the accessories…the story line…OK, I admit I’ll be first in line on May 27…but can we take a moment to acknowledge the GENIUS that is OPI Nail Color with their Shrek Forever After line.

In partnership with the  DreamWorks Animation movie, OPI has launched 6 limited edition colors inspired by the film’s characters.  The dark purple “Funky Dunky”  is universally flattering, and the lavendar “Rumples Wiggin”  looks fantastic on tan hands.  It also ties in nicely with the new rage of pastel colored hair streaks as seen on the heads of several models and at least one one of the Olsen Twins (I know they’re not identical but I can never tell them apart).  Of course if you want to get a little outrageous with your personal style, maybe nail polish – rather than hair dye – is a good place to start.

The line also features “What’s With the Cattitude?” (light blue); “Ogre the Top” (bright blue); “Who the Shrek Are You?” (bright green) and my personal favorite “Fiercely Fiona” (light green).   According to Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI executive vice president and artistic director, “The Shrek Forever After colors were inspired by characters living in a fantasy world unlike any other fairy tale that is unapologetically
vivid, bold and unique in every sense.”   Sounds a bit like the girls on SATC…

OPI Nail Lacquer Colors & Collections For Spring – Summer 2010

As the temperatures rise, so does our craving for bright and flirty colors. Our favorite boots make their way into storage boxes and the hunt for the perfect sandal begins! To compliment your cute new kicks, I’ve compiled a list of the hottest nail colors and trends for this season.

    Matte Nails

Matte nail colors are flying off of shelves right now. With matte colors, you can’t use a base or top coat and achieve that shineless look, so the colors do tend to flake and chip more easily than glossy hues. O.P.I has released 6  fabulous matte polishes, some of which will even cross over into the fall. If you can only snag one color from the line, I recommend OPI You Dont Know Jacques MATTE Nail Lacquer.  It’s a gorgeous taupe-gray, which is oh-so-trendy and compliments almost any outfit. *Make sure the name says Matte, as these colors also come in gloss.*

    Fun And Funky

For the kid in all of us, there’s OPI Shrek Forever After Collection. That’s right-that silly ogre and stubborn donkey have their own shades of nail polish! If you plan on taking your daughter to see the film this summer, why not make it a date with mommy-daughter pedi’s in What’s With The Cattitude?. Another great color to help you beat the summer-time blues is A Good Man-darin is Hard to Find from the Hong Kong Collection. It’s a bright orange color with red undertones that will be sure to turn heads by the pool!

The OPI Alice In Wonderland Collection sold out in stores, and online, extremely fast. If you can manage to get your hands on Absolutely Alice or Mad As A Hatter, buy 2 of each! (You can get Mad As A Hatter on but it’s pricey because it’s sold out everywhere else!) Glitter is always a fun way to add sparkle to another color or wear it alone. Absolutely Alice is a fabulous blue glitter while Mad As A Hatter is a mix of colors, but comes off black/purple after a few coats.

Pink is a summer staple for any polish collection. The OPI Pink Soft Shades Collection for Spring 2010 offers 4 pale pink shades-perfect for proms, weddings, etc. These romantic and subtle colors keep the attention on you while adding just a hint of color. The shade It’s A Girl! would be a useful and unique baby shower favor!
