Making Old Jewelry New- Experiment #1

Lately, visions of sparkling new jewels have been dancing through my head.  Since I’m Sensible Sally, I don’t feel right treating myself unless I’m fully utilizing the pieces I already own.  So I went rummaging through my jewelry box in search of items that I’m not currently wearing enough.

I stumbled upon this Roberto Coin Circle of Life necklace ($520 at Nordstrom.com).

Back in my 20s, I wore this all the time.  As my style has evolved, though, I’ve reached for it less and less.  It’s been woefully neglected of late, and it’s just wrong to treat diamonds (even teensy ones) like that.

And guess what else I found in my jewelry box?  Diamond cross earrings I received as a gift ages ago.  I wore them often until I dropped one down the drain.  Because they had sentimental value, I was especially upset about it.  I tucked the remaining earring away, intending to have it matched at some point… but I never did.

So when I saw it sitting around all lonely, I decided it was the perfect way to give my Circle of Life necklace some added oomph.  I took the two pieces to my jeweler and Voila:

This turned out to be a cheap and quick adjustment.  My jeweler even gave me scrap value for the earring’s gold post, so I barely paid anything at all!

I now feel like I have a totally new necklace.  Since charm jewelry is so hot right now, I love layering it with other pendants for an eclectic effect.  (a la the Alice in Wonderland collection for Disney Couture by Tom Binns).

Crossing my fingers that my next jewelry makeover is as successful!

Twisted Silver Eureka Necklace

Twisted Silver Eureka Necklace

The Twisted Silver Renegade Trip continues with the introduction of the fabulous Eureka necklace. It’s totally a boutique conversation piece as yet delicately sweet and very versatile. I think this is one of my favorite Twisted Silver pieces to date.

You can easily wear this necklace with a variety of Summer and Fall 2010 trends including neon, boho or military for daytime and then ruffles, sequins and florals for evening. It’s a very versatile piece and I know you’ll want to wear it over and over again. Especially after you see how many compliments you get with this one! Everyone will ask you about the three aurora borealis crystals on the triangular mesh at which point, you just shout “EUREKA!” ;-)

The length is perfect for me right now. I can’t wear long necklaces because of my big pregnant belly! This one is perfect though as it just hangs right above it.

Must-Have Summer Accessory: Whistle Necklace

Inspired by those cotton candy summer days on the Boardwalk, this cool whistle is pure sophisticated nostalgia. The vintage brass whistle comes on a long 35 inch chain that layers beautifully with other delicate chains of varying lengths. I wore it doubled up as more of a choker since it kept banging into my belly bump!

Be prepared for EVERYONE to ask if it really works. The first day I wore it, about half a dozen people commented on it and all of them asked “Does it really work?” It’s such a cool looking necklace that it seems like the whistle would be just for looks, but it’s not! Comes in handy when I’m calling my puppy too…

The whistle necklace is available on Twisted-Silver.com for $50.

Spring / Summer 2010 Fashion Accessories to Own: Statement Necklaces

I know we’re all talking about the “next big thing” when it comes to fashion, but sometimes that next big thing is, literally, BIG! That’s the case when it comes to Statement Necklaces.

What’s to love about these must-own accessories? Simply put, they turn an outfit into a fashion statement with one easy step.

Need to spice up your favorite LBD? This is the best (and definitely the easiest!) way to add glam to your everyday outfits. I would recommend pairing this with solids and simple outfits (you don’t want your outfit to overwhelm the real spotlight… YOU!) and I truly believe that every woman needs to own at least one.

Thrifty Tip: Don’t have extra cash to spend on a brand new bauble? Make your own statement necklace by wearing multiple necklaces at one time… just make sure they work together!

Eco Friendly Brass Flower Necklace from Twisted Silver

The Diva Necklace is my favorite pieces from Twisted Silver. I wear this necklace more than any other piece of jewelry I own. This is slightly sad since I have so much other pieces of jewelry that are missing out on the fresh air! I just love this necklace though.

Diva NecklaceThe not gold and not silver color makes it blend in with almost any outfit. I’ve been wearing a lot of clothing from Free People and XCVI and this necklace looks absolutely fabulous with any items from those two brands.

While I love variety, I really don’t need much when it comes to the Diva Necklace from Twisted Silver. There are matching flower earrings to go with the Diva Necklace, but I don’t like being too matchy matchy and prefer to wear them separately. I usually wear the Diva Necklace with a pair of brass toned earrings I got on sale at Forever 21 for like $2. They look great together! I’ll show you pics sometime…

I think the Diva Necklace is the perfect piece to invest in for Fall because it really does go with any outfit, makes a bold statement without being too loud and it’s lightweight!
