Muppet Collection from OPI, What?!

I don’t know about you guys but not only am I suuuuuuuuuuper excited about a new Muppet Movie (Ummmm Muppet Treasure Island WAS.THE.BEST) but I am super stoked for some new OPI nail colors! These rockin’ colors are inspired by the Muppets themselves. What’s not to love?! ( I know, I love a lot of things and nail polish is certainly one of them!) With names like Fresh Frog of Bel-Air, Excuse Moi! and Gone Gonzo! these colors are most definitely Muppet Approved!

Check out some of the new colors due to hit stores in November for $8.50 each, just in time for the film’s November 23rd release.

What do you think? Will you be partaking in the Muppet collection, the Muppet movie or both?!

Fall 2011 Must-Have Nail Polish Collection

Get sizzling nails this summer with China Glaze’s new Crackle Glaze Metals collection. The pioneer in crackle technology, China Glaze takes the beauty phenomenon to the next level with this second-generation polish that pairs the edgy innovation of crackle with the elegant beauty of metals for an amazing collection that is sure to set the trends for Fall.

The China Glaze Crackle Glaze Metals collection features six sparkling metallic colors including:

  • Tarnished Gold: Warm, honeyed hue
  • Platinum Pieces: Shimmering silver
  • Haute Metal: Pale pink
  • Cracked Medallion: Bold bronze
  • Latticed Lilac: Soft lavender
  • Oxidized Aqua: Deep aquamarine blue

You can create dramatically different looks with just one sweep of China Glaze Crackle Glaze Metals. Layer over different base colors to create a multitude of different styles. Use a lighter coat to create a fine crackle, a thicker coat for a deep shatter effect. The more you use it, the easier it gets. It’s really an art form!

As versatile and edgy as China Glaze’s biggest celebrity fans (Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Nicole Ritchie and Kelly Osbourne, to name a few), Glaze Crackle Glaze Metals is sure to be this Fall’s hottest beauty trend!

I received Tarnished Gold, Cracked Medallion and Oxidized Aqua to review. I tried the gold over black and over dark purple. Both looked really amazing. I tried Cracked Medallion over a sparkly gold color as well as over orange. It didn’t look too good over orange because the colors clashed a little, but it looked great over the gold. I tried the Aqua over an opaque teal color and that looked the best. So many variations to try, I just wish I had more nails to polish!!!

My nieces, both teenagers, LOVE crackle nail polish. They like China Glaze best and they are always asking me for more nail polish to try whenever I see them. I know they will love this new Crackle Glaze Metals collection as much as I do!

The Kardashians Team Up with OPI for Some Stunning Shades

Guh, I don’t know if you gals know this or not but Mama LOVES nail polish. I mean not as much as shoes, but pretty darn close. I am a collector of sorts and even when the man says “Don’t you have that color already?” I can confidently say, “These are two totally different shades”. So you can imagine my excitement when Nicole by OPI announced the upcoming collection from the Kardashians. Hello, awesome. InStyle gave us a sneak peak at the shades debuting later this year.

What do you ladies think? Any winning shades in the bunch?

Gel Manicures…5 Months Later…

Earlier this winter I wrote about Gel Nail manicures and the pros and cons of this new manicure technique.  Being a sucker for beautiful nails and a regular at my local nail salon, I began to tell myself, “…OK, just this time.  Next visit I’ll give my nails a break and go without polish…”  That mind set led me to 5 months worth of Gel Manicures.  I have to say that during those five months, once the manicure was set, my nails looked AWESOME!  They never chipped, split, tore or otherwise got ratty.

But I began to notice (OK, I couldn’t help but notice) that when I was in the middle of a manicure my nails were painfully dry and had ridges and nasty white spots, as if I had splattered White Out all over my hands.   But once those gels were on, my manicure was truly lustrous for a full two weeks.  Finally, last week, the girl who was doing my nails said that my nails were so dry and brittle that she could not in good conscience put any product other than oil on my nails.  Ouch.

So here I am with dry, brittle, ridge filled nails, slathering oil on my nails every chance I get.  I have decided to wait a month before polishing my nails again.  Would I get another Gel Manicure?  Probably.  OK, definitely.  But I won’t get one every time, maybe only for special occasions.  If you are considering Gels here is a list of pros and cons:

PRO:

Your manicure will look fabulous for a full two weeks

Your nails will be like teflon, even when doing household chores

You will be able to fumble for your keys in the bottom of your purse before leaving the salon

CONS:

You have to soak in chemicals for about 15 minutes to get gels off and you can’t do it at home

Your nails become painfully dry

Extended use of Gels can cause ridges and white “bruises” on your nail beds

A regular manicure just isn’t as satisfying once you get going on gels because it won’t hold up as well as a gel manicure

Have you tried Gel manicures?  Are you addicted to them?  Leave a comment and let us know!
