Tips & Tricks For Feeling Great About Your Body

If you have a summer vacation planned this year, you might now be experiencing conflicting emotions. Part of you will be really looking forward to the chance to get away from it all, get some sun and relax, whilst another part is absolutely dreading having to bare all on the beach.

women_pinching_bellyIf you aren’t body confident and are worried about your beach body, you aren’t alone. A recent survey by Glamour found that on average, young women have around 13 negative thoughts about their bodies every day. Can you believe it?!

 

According to stylist Gok Wan, this needs to change. Women need to start loving their bodies and celebrating their best features, rather than rushing to get breast implant surgery, tummy tucks or liposuction. This is especially the case when it comes to revealing our bodies on the beach, an occasion which so many women dread. To get yourself ready for the beach, both physically and mentally, Gok has quite a few useful tips and tricks up his sleeve…

 

Gok Wan Tips:

 

  • Improve your posture. Without having to hit the gym or spend a fortune on a new wardrobe, you can drastically improve the way you look and feel simply by standing up straight. Your body will look longer and slimmer, and you’ll feel more confident, if you put your shoulders back, hold your tummy in, raise your chin and walk tall.

  • Choose the right swimwear for your body shape. Whenever you buy clothes, you should be looking for cuts, shapes and styles which flatter your body shape (i.e. pear shape, top-heavy, long and lean etc.). The same goes for buying a bikini or swimsuit – you should choose one which shows off your best bits and hides those you don’t like as much, rather than simply choosing a style that is currently in fashion.

  • Strip it all off and take a long look at yourself in the mirror, balancing every negative thought you have of your body with a positive one. So, for every “I don’t like my cleavage – I need a boob job” you should counter with an “actually, I have a really tiny waist” or “my legs are really long and toned”. It can be hard to praise yourself, but it is so good for your self-image and body confidence to focus on the areas you like about yourself, rather than obsessing over those you don’t.

  • Give your skin a glow. To look great on the beach, a top tip is to use a subtle self-tan or a body oil, both of which will make you look and feel fantastic. Productive Windows 8 Apps On My Intel Tablet

As you know, I’ve partnered with Intel to promote their brand new Acer Iconia W510 Intel Tablet. I was unsure how I would feel about the tablet because I had heard awful things about Windows 8, but I said it last week and I’ll say it again… I love Windows 8 now.

There are so many useful apps and they are so much more convenient than bulky programs.

It’s like they married the convenience and fun of an iPad with the genius and power of Windows and created the most addictive piece of electronics I’ve ever owned.

I was happy that it had all the right openings to allow easy access for charging it, adjusting the volume, etc. For the price, I was extremely happy with this purchase. It’s not perfect and it’s not ideal, but it works and will protect my little gem.

Love Who You Are | Lizzie Miller in Glamour Magazine

glamour-sept-09I was just reading about the article in Glamour magazine about the picture that everyone can’t stop talking about. It was a simple little picture of a 20-something woman who wasn’t a size 0. Lizzie Miller is a plus size model who appeared in the September issue of Glamour magazine nude. A real woman, a real body, in a women’s magazine. It was actually quite refreshing to see.

However, you can’t deny the fact the majority of the American population is overweight. Being a fashion writer and a woman myself, I am torn between encouraging my fellow ladies and moms to feel good in their own skin or standing up and saying no, they shouldn’t be comfortable being overweight because it’s unhealthy, shortens their lifespan, and limits their quality of life. Not to mention what it does to your self esteem, whether you want to acknowledge it or not.

I think every woman should be confident in who she is. If you have self confidence, you won’t feel insecure with what you see in the mirror. We all have days when we get on the scale or try to get our pants on, only to pop a button and end up wanting to hide under the bed and cry. We’ve all been there and done that. But that doesn’t mean we need to learn to love ourselves the way we are. That means we need to care enough about ourselves and our well being to make changes for the better and start moving in a direction to get ourselves healthy and fit. Not just so we can look good. Not just so we can fit back into our pants, but so we can take responsibility of our own body, be healthy and strong and stay fit so that we can live a long and healthy life and be helpful to others.

You only have this one body and this one life. If you don’t take good care of your body and give it everything it needs, it’s going to break down and give out on you eventually. Heart attack? Cancer?

My thinking is yes, you need to love who you are, where you are at in life. BUT! also have a goal, aim high and do your best to take care of yourself. If you are overweight, don’t go out and buy a new wardrobe. Start eating right, getting some regular exercise and plenty of sunshine and fresh air!

Love who you are, but always try to be better. Don’t ever give up.
