Spring 2010 Trend Alert: Jumpsuits and Rompers

Photos Credit: www.projectrungay.blogspot.com

Jumpsuits and rompers are a must have for your Spring 2010 wardrobe. Easy to wear, comfortable, and easy to dress up or down. Despite popular belief, jumpsuits and rompers are actually pretty easy to get on and off, are versatile, and are available in variety of lengths, styles, and fits.

I’ve been searching for the perfect jumpsuit and I finally bought the Free People Riptide Jumpsuit on 6pm.com for $44. It was 50% off retail and I absolutely loved it when I found it on FreePeople.com, but didn’t want to pay full price. So I was so excited when my friend Jaclyn helped me find it for less!

If you’re looking for a jumpsuit for under $50, check out these cutes ones I picked out myself…

(If any of the prices go above $50, it’s because they are not longer on sale!)

Trend Alert: See What You Should Be Wearing This Spring And Summer 2010

PLAID

This isn’t my favorite pattern in the world, but can be really cool when accessorized appropriately. Mix and match patterns or offset them with solid colors and fun accessories.

TIE DYE

Love it or hate it, tie-dye is a hot trend for Spring and Summer ’10. Myself, I think it can be really cool, especially if you play the BOHO trend into a bit with some earthy accessories and wooden jewelry. I’m on the lookout for a cool tie-dye maxi dress!

FLORALS

Fun floral prints are great for Spring and Summer! Pretty dresses and flirty tops to bring you wardrobe into the sunny seasons.

EMBELLISHMENT

A little embellishment adds spice to any outfit. A great tank with pretty embellishment around the collar will look great with a jacket for work, with a pair of jeans for weekends and with a skirt for evenings out. Very versatile and a great item to have in your wardrobe!

It’s a 70′s flash back ladies! Tie dye is back and hotter than ever. It’s super easy to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe no matter what your personal style or body shape is. Grab a flirty tie dye dress or colorful swimsuit if you dare. If you’re timid to try this trend, opt for a cool tie dye scarf or simple leggings to wear under your favorite dress this Spring. Have fun with it!

Must-Try Fashion Trends for Spring 2010

While everyone is in New York at Fashion Week, the rest of the world is preparing for Spring… and, for some of us, it really is right around the corner. Sure, the precise date is March 21, but that doesn’t mean it’s not warm enough to get ready ahead of time!

Here are five of the must-try trends for the season. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, they’re what you’ll be seeing on the trendy and stylish till May, when it’s warm enough to scamper around in a bikini and a miniskirt (not that I’d do that…).

Spring 2010 Trends

Animal Prints: Add a little meow to your ensemble with some animal print. I subscribe to the “less is more” mantra when it comes to this trend – it’s good to add a little bit (like the ankle boot above paired with an LBD), but too much is dangerous for your health. And always, ALWAYS… go faux. TFH loves the animals; you should too!

Peep-Toe Shoes: What better way to show off your gorgeous new spring pedicure than with a pair of darling peep-toed shoes? Not all of us can afford the Louboutins above (we can dream, right?), but there are some great PTSs (Peep-Toe Shoes, of course!) available at virtually every price point with every print imaginable!

Flirty & Feminine: Where rigid and masculine looks dominated the runway last year, this spring there was a return to the girly side of fashion. Light pinks, fluffy crinolines, lace and silk all came back with a vengance. The great news about this? There’s a cut and style for every figure.

Moto-Fashion: Two of the biggest new items to hit the block this season are the Cropped Biker Jacket and Moto-Jeans. I own the latter (I got a pair of Vintage1 Motorcycle Skinny Jeans online a month ago, and love them!), and the former is a must-have on my list!

Metallics: Ahh, the sheen of gold, the look of glam. Metallics (especially against black, where they can really pop) are the perfect wardrobe addition for the super-glamorous girl with a not-so-glamorous wallet. Hey, not all of us can afford some huge bling… but we can all swing a stunning metallic clutch!

Any trends you’d add to the list? Any you’d remove? Let me know!

As a sidenote… while I understand that it’s a trend that some of you may, for some reason beyond my thought capabilities, be interested in trying out some harem pants for the spring (as they are, technically, one of the big trends to try if you’re reading the fashion mags), I implore you: STAY AWAY. If you lived through the 80′s, you know. If you didn’t? Well, let me say this: as someone who reads a LOT of fashion magazines, blogs, etc, I haven’t seen a single pair of truly flattering harem pants. They don’t exist. Don’t buy them.

Fashion Trends: Long And Short Gloves

Who Took the Gloves Off???!!

Reminiscing on How This Fashion ‘Must’ Became Passe

It used to be that one of the very core items a lady possessed was a pair of white gloves. A lady could be seen wearing her white gloves at all times, except when she was eating at a prominent citizen’s house. In this case, she would elaborately fold the gloves into the white linen napkin which sat atop her lap. A lady was never to shake a gentleman’s hand, ‘sans gloves’, because just think where that gentleman’s hand might have been! I am kidding about that very last part, although it is true that a Lady was always required to wear gloves, if she did indeed want to continue to be considered a Lady thereafter.

1883

The above illustration describes Victorian dress during the later part of the 1880′s. You’ll notice the young, sorrowful looking girl is wearing short-white gloves, which would have been appropriate for her time as well as social status. The more motherly woman is wearing gloves all of the way up to her puffed sleeves. Notice neither lady shows a hint of skin. As you know, even the slightest peep at an elbow might arouse uncontrollable thoughts and lead to unthinkable actions in the gentlemen in the room. Gloves were a necessity to prevent against peeping elbows and other unwanted events. I have no idea who these ladies are, but when I see them, I can’t help but think that they are a mother and daughter pair. Mother is gently pointing out a gentleman across the room to whom the younger lady’s father betrothed her earlier that day. (Against the daughter’s wishes, of course. Evidently, these types of daughters generally preferred the stable-boy and the happenings in the stable). I can just see the poor young lady lamenting to her mother, “But Mother, what thinkest thou? Would you have me wed to a brute with such a highly waxed and shaped mustache?! Why it is hardly civilized! And, Mother, just think of how ITCHY I shall be on my wedding bed!!”

And then there were the 1950′s where peeping elbows were apparently not a problem. Just look at all of the children being born during the 50′s and henceforth the first onslaught of gigantic family boats– er, I mean cars. Did I just say henceforth? The lady below stands proudly and in control with her gorgeous tailored suit and discreet black gloves. She stands poised ready to take the world by storm, and even have the freedom to choose her own suitors. She can choose her suits and her SUITORS. Perhaps this is why the frail white glove fell to the way-side and took its place in the annals of history? No reasonable girl no longer wanted that little white glove to have influence over whom she married and subsequent itchy wedding beds.

Standard Attire During the 1950′s and the Discreet Black Glove

And heck, while we throw out the little white glove, I say we start a revolution and throw out cooking dinner and washing the dishes afterwards.

But, alas, Fashion came to our rescue and we didn’t have to throw out cooking or doing the dishes. Someone with some sense invented a saucy little glove and apron combo to allow us to be fashion icons even in the most sticking and dirty situations.

I present to you the fashionable glove and apron combo. You may dear may now be the star of the show in your own kitchen:

But surely, with all of the winter storms we have been seeing, especially in the North-East, there has to be a glove to come to our rescue, while also keeping us warm. Dear Readers, I present to you this bad-ass elbow length glove from Mossimo. Because you just can’t go wrong with black leather.

Mossimo for Mossimo Long Leather Gloves – $17.99

Or, perhaps, something shorter and more demure? A mix of naughty and nice? I can buy that too, so I present to you three-button leather gloves by Merona:

Merona Leather Glove with Buttons – $17.99

And then there’s the best deal yet. These beauties come in every color of the rainbow and sell for under $10.00. I say splurge and buy at least three pairs to introduce a splash of festive color during these dreary winter months.

NY and Co. Long Knit Gloves with Button Trim – Sale $9.99!!

And now we have come to the splurge. I found these fabulous elbow-length gloves by Juicy Couture. Who can resist the stripes and the signature Scotty Dog charm that will dangle gently and flash a bit when you are scurrying down the street. These gloves are absolutely fabulous, even if they are a bit spendy. Still, they can ‘make’ an outfit for under $70.00, and a gorgeous statement piece under $70.00 is difficult to pass up.

Juicy Couture ‘Couture Stripe’ Long Gloves – $65.00

We may have thrown away the dull, thin, white gloves over a century ago, but today’s gloves, just like today’s girls, are out there making a statement and choosing their own beaus.
