The Best Facial Masks for Skin Care

skin care productsWhen it comes to our beauty routine, we all know about choosing a cleanser and toner for daily use, a good exfoliant to remove dead skin cells, and a serum or cream to moisturize. But what is the most often overlooked yet critical component to having beautiful skin? It is the wonders and benefits that the best facial mask usage can bring us.

Maintaining a regular facial mask regimen is an amazing way to treat your skin to a variety of natural and organic ingredients. Clay and mud masks provide deep cleansing and purification, herbal masks help for an even complexion and breakout prevention, and masks with essential oils and butters hydrate and nourish the skin. A facial mask is an also excuse to lay back, deep breathe, and take a 20 minute meditation break from your stressful day. Here I will compare 3 such facial masks and discuss their benefits.

1.      Moor Mask

This great product is pure 100% herbal mud taken from the Lowland moors. It is a thick, jet black, wet mask that has a healing and calming effect on the skin. It does wonders for problem skin conditions or breakouts, and with a 21-day intensive treatment can completely clear and restore your complexion. It is a deep cleansing mask that leaves the skin soft and silky without having a drying effect. It can also repair skin problems such as damage caused from prolonged sun exposure and dermatitis. What I love most about the Moor Mask is that it feels so calming and silky smooth on the skin for a really relaxing facial.

2.      Vivoderm Anti-Aging Mask

This all herbal mask is mixed with yogurt or pure aloe vera gel to give the skin a great natural makeover and pick-me-up. It is lightly exfoliating and leaves the skin soft, tight, and radiant. It shrinks enlarged pores and makes dull skin tone much more vibrant. My favorite thing about the Vivoderm Mask is that is exfoliates and really improves my dull complexion.

3.      Renu Derma Green Clay Facial Mask

This mask is enriched with vitamin C, green clay, and aloe vera. It is a thick mask that dries completely on the skin. The results from this mask are just wonderful, as it leaves the skin deeply cleansed, feelingtighter, and firmer. The mask is intense – it opens up the pores, and is also a great anti-aging tool. What I love most about this facial mask is what my skin feels like immediately after washing it off – it is just so smooth, tight, and clean.

Using a bi-weekly facial mask regimen can be such an added bonus to your anti-aging, deep cleansing, and complexion-purifying skin care routine. Not to mention they are great to use while submersed in a warm candle-lit bubble bath infused with essential oils. But don’t just take my word for it – try out the best facial masks out for yourself. Gentle Natural Body Scrub – North American Hemp Co. Review

I recently received a couple products from North American Hemp Co. to test out and review. One product of theirs I really felt was worth mentioning on the blog is their Hemp Husk Exfoliating Body Scrub.

I have mixed thoughts on this body scrub, but most are positive. Being someone who exfoliates a couple times a week and is addicted to body scrubs, I found this one to be too gentle for my taste. They call it “exfoliating body scrub” but I really didn’t find that it exfoliated much at all.

My three year old loves to try out all my different soaps and body washes when she’s in the bath, so I let her try this one out since it was natural, Sulphate Free, Paraben & DEA Free, Cruelty Free & Vegan. She has sensitive skin of course, so obviously she’s not crazy about the intense, exfoliating scrubs I love, like the Naturopathica Lemongrass Mimosa Body Scrub. Let’s just say that the North American Hemp Co Body Scrub is so not exfoliating, that she likes to use it.

An exact quote from her: “It’s not scratchy momma! I like it!”

Need I say more?! lol

While it doesn’t have enough scrub and “scratchies” in it for my personal taste, I think this would be an excellent choice for someone like Laney over at The Fashionable Gal, who has extremely sensitive skin and isn’t a fan of harsh scrubs. If you’re not accustomed to using scrubs and you’re new to exfoliating, this would be a great product to start with. Not intimidating at all!

It actually foams up and gets soapy like a body wash and cleanses skin without leaving it dry. I also like the light pleasant scent this product has. However, I think that the small amount of hemp husk in there that makes it a “scrub” actually makes this product less versatile because I could wash my whole body with it and use it as bubble bath and maybe even shampoo, if it didn’t have the hemp husk in there.

If you have sensitive skin, don’t usually use a body scrub or you are new to exfoliating, then this would be a great product for you!

Price: $9.99 (9.3oz bottle)

It’s no secret that Fall is upon us. No more hanging at the poolside soaking up all that vitamin D! But don’t worry, you don’t have to take a vacation to Hawaii to get your tan back.

Antidote Skin Care has developed high quality and environmentally conscious self-tanning products. There are two tanning systems are available: Gradual or Dark.

I was lucky enough to get to talk to Sinead Norenius, author of Self Tanning Queen blog, who created Antidote Skin Care’s line of self tanning products based on feedback she received on her blog. Readers shared with her what was lacking from tanning products on the market today and Sinead decided to make her own sunless tanner!

After finding the perfect tan shade, Sinead eliminated all the commonly used ingredients like parabens, propylene glycol, sodium laureth (and that bad stuff) and added in anti-aging ingredients like DHA, MOC, and MelanoBronze, a compound comprised of Monk’s Pepper Extract and Acetyl Tyrosine. And on top of that, Antidote’s products are cruelty-free so you can feel good about using them too!

Sinead was nice enough to send me the Summer Glow System which contains Summer Glow, a self-tanning lotion that is packed with powerful antioxidants and anti-aging ingredients and Go Slough Yourself, a fabulous pre-tanning exfoliant.

You can find a series of videos on the website, for tips and tricks on how to apply the sunless tanners so you can achieve the perfect tan every single time you use the products.

These fabulous tanning systems retail for $46.99. You can purchase the products individually, purchase the kits, or enroll in the auto shipment program so you can have the perfect tan year round! Everything is up to the customer with Antidote.
