What Not To Wear: Denim Outfits

There appears to be a new trend cropping up that needs to be stopped in it’s tracks and that is denim outfits, respectfully known as “Double Denim”. It’s a crime against fashion and you need to know the repercussions of allowing such a heinous trend to become popular.

The 80′s brought many bad trends like perms, mullets, acid wash jeans and plethora of other trends that should never be revived. One of those trends is denim outfits.

What is a denim outfit?

A denim outfit is wearing anything more than one article of clothing made out of denim. A denim jacket with denim jeans is just about the ugliest thing in the world, whether it’s matching denim, 2 different colors of denim or just mismatched washes. It’s ugly.

Because it just doesn’t look good! If you wear a denim jacket with matching denim pants then you might as well go ahead and wear a tie dye shirt underneath, get a perm, wear go-go boots because if you’re gonna look stupid, you might as well go all out.

Premium Denim For Less Than $50!

front-alt-larger-web It’s true… too hard to believe? I had the pleasure of trying a pair of Alias’ Premium Denim “Sweet Dee” jeans… and I am in love!

You may know from reading my other posts that I am a bit of a snob when it comes to jeans. I like the big brands, because I feel like they fit the best. I don’t like the prices however. But I wear jeans almost every day – they are just my “thing” – so I know a good pair when I cross one!

These jeans fit great and have a great price tag! Only $40! Let me quickly outline some of the features of the jeans that I personally love so much.

Color/Wash: This shade of deep denim blue is the most flattering of all washes in my opinion. The color is slimming and a touch dressy so they are suitable for a date night out or running errands in style, even with a heel on a casual Friday if your office will allow it! They have nice natural “whiskering” under the front pockets and right at the knee.

And here is my absolute favorite part of the wash… the distressing in a vertical line on the front and back that make it look like it’s had creases ironed into it. First of all, this look elongates the leg (for all of us that are under 5′ 10″!) and adds to the appeal of the jean, because even if they just popped out of the dryer, they look pressed!

Stitching: Do you notice the stitching in your jeans? You should! Stitching greatly varies from jean to jean and I usually use it as a guidepost for accenting with brown/warm tones (for rust/brown stitching) or with black/cool tones (for black/blue stitching). Call me crazy, but find some jeans in your closet, make some outfits depending on the equation above and you will see the difference! The Sweet Dee jean features a hidden seam out the outside of the leg and a triple stitched seam on the inside in a classic rust color. These jeans will look great with warmer tones in your closet. In addition, they feature a fun swiggle line on the back patch pockets. Stitch detailing on patch pockets is so hot these days!

Fit: When ordering you will see that they come in three sizes that fall in the range of two to three sizes. Don’t be alarmed by this! For two reasons. The first is that they are a light weight denim, which isn’t so stiff and unforgiving in size as other denim. They also contain 2% stretch which I found after two or three “denim squats” (ladies, you know what I mean here…) they stretched and eased in all of the right places. The second reason not to be thrown off by the sizing is that they have a 100% satisfaction guarantee! In fact, the first pair I received didn’t fit great so I really easily exchanged them for a pair that fit awesome, with little wait time.

Overall Opinion: I love them. I am eager to see what new styles Alias Premium Denim has in the works and have really enjoyed bopping around town with these cuties on! You will love them too! So head on over to Alias and pick up a pair!
