Review: Born ‘Carolina’ Lace-Up Leather Boots

The Born Carolina lace-up boot is the first pair of boots I’ve added to my Fall 2009 wardrobe.
These boots are very unique, yet surprisingly versatile. If you don’t have any lace-up boots, you should definitely consider these. For me, they were am absolute must-have for my Fall ’09 / Winter ’10 shoe collection. They are one of the best pairs of lace up boots you can invest in this season. I decided this based on style, comfort, value for the money, and versatility.
Style: Unique, slightly Victorian look completely modernized with buckles and tri colored details. The Born Carolina comes in Mudd (as shown above) as well as Truffle, a dark brown color. I think these boots are very unique and eye-catching.
Comfort: If you aren’t familiar with Børn shoes, then you need to yourself a pair asap. Born is another one of my favorite brands of comfort footwear. These boots are nice because the 2 ¾ inch heel is just enough height to make them cute and give you a little lift, yet they are comfortable enough to wear all day long. And don’t worry about tying laces, these actually have a hidden zipper on the inside of each boot for easy on and off.
Value: Born shoes are a tremendous value for the money because they are extremely well made shoes that will last through many seasons. They have many handcrafted styles, made from premium leathers and featuring fine details.
Versatility: These boots are more versatile than you think. As you can see, I’m wearing them with boyfriend jeans rolled up to show off the lace-up font and cute buckles. They would also look cute with cropped zip jeans or “Not Your Daughter’s Jeans” Rolled-Up Ankle Jeans. I can even see wearing these with a long skirt like this adorable Three Dots Jersey Colette Long Skirt or these cute Skinny Jeans

Børn shoes are well known for their Opanka hand-sewn construction. They have a special technique where they hand sew the upper, sock lining and outsole together in a single process. Not only does this method make Børn shoes extremely flexible, it also creates a natural cushioning effect. As a result, the under foot conforms and rebounds with every movement, providing a consistently comfortable environment.
Most Born shoes are made with traditional Opanka construction. However they have enhanced and expanded the Opanka construction over the years. All of their constructions are based on Opanka though because that is their heritage and what people have come to love about this brand.
This particular style is available in whole and half sizes. I purchased a size 7 and they fit perfectly. Review: Naturalizers ‘Voluminous’ Leather Slingbacks

The Naturalizer ‘Voluminous’ Peep-toe Slingback is probably the most versatile and most comfortable shoe you can add to your collection.
Style: These simple slingbacks are the perfect balance of style and comfort. I love that they don’t have visible top stitching! I also really like that these stylish slingbacks have a slip-on styling with a cute little peep toe design. Very cute and simple, yet amazingly versatile. You’ll get a lot of wear out of these.
Comfort: The leather is soft, doesn’t dig in or pinch anywhere. They have a stable 1 1/2 inch heel that is easy to walk and even run in. While I would say these run true to size, I got them a half size smaller than my normal shoe size because I have trouble keeping slingbacks on my heel, because my heel doesn’t indent. These fit perfectly and don’t slip off. If you have a normal heel, purchase your normal shoe size.

Believe it or not, comfortable shoes are “in style” this season. Get ready to bring on the ballet flats, wedges, and low heel styles.
While comfort is becoming more and more important even to the most prissy fashionistas, style can not be compromised. Most people think of their grandmother’s loafers when they hear “comfort footwear”, but be prepared to forget everything you think you knew about comfortable shoes.
Blogs like BarkingDogShoes.com are dedicated solely to blogging about comfortable shoes. While I try to cover this subject often, Kirsten at Barking Dog Shoes does a much better job than me! If you want to know about all the sales, new styles, and which pairs to buy, you definitely need to check out her blog.
In my search for the perfect pair of comfortable shoes, I’ve found several pairs that I love.

Please don’t even ask me what I was thinking of when I I bought the Dr. Scholl’s Dance Clog. I’m pretty sure it was a complete and total lapse of sanity on my part… In all seriousness, I saw a woman hailing a cab wearing them with a cute dress and a scarf around her neck. She looked so cute and somehow the shoes looked great with her outfit. I had seen them online before so I knew exactly what shoes they were. So I came home and looked them up online, saw them on sale on Amazon.com for $30 and decided to go for it… I was a little disappointed in them though. With bare feet, my pinky toe gets stuck in the little holes in the side. And they are slippery and hard to keep on your feet which makes them impossible to wear with socks, unless you wear them with slipper socks with the little rubber grippies on the bottom. In theory, I totally thought they would work, but they just didn’t… For me anyway. Does anyone else have a pair???
In conclusion, my point in all of this was to say that there are finally some comfortable and practical shoes out there that really keep up with the trends! Check out sites like Shoeline.com that are specifically geared towards comfort footwear.

Review: Naot ‘Allure’ Grey Crinkle Leather Boots

I searched around for the best possible pair of boots that will have you looking super hot this Fall, and yet carry you stylishly right into Winter 2010. Lucky for you, I found the perfect pair right in my own closet.
The Naot ‘Allure’ are a very comfortable boot with 2″ heels. Easy to walk in, roomy calf area and these boots work well with skirts, dresses, leggings, pants and skinny jeans.
These boots are so fabulously comfortable, you won’t want to take them off come Spring 2010. While these sexy boots boast comfort and style, they are also durable, high quality shoes from Naot, a brand that is well known for their comfortable footwear.
I love these particular boots because of the cool strap detailing that wraps around the calf of the boot. Another thing you are going to love, is these boots actually fit you gals with bigger calves! I have trouble with most boots because they just aren’t big enough around the top to zip them up all the way. If you are looking for wide calf boots to fit your larger calves, then these are the boots for you!

One thing to keep in mind though is that Zappos says that these boots runs large, and I don’t agree. I got mine in a size 37 and they fit perfect. If you are concerned about fit, buy 2 different sizes and send one back.

Review: Me Too ‘Mission’ Ballet Flats from Marshalls

I purchased the Me Too Mission Ballet Flat at Marshalls this week. They were one of the featured styles in the Shoe Megashop and were only $34.99. I had a lot to choose from.
In Marshalls Shoe Megashop you’ll find rows and rows of the latest designer shoes at hugely discounted prices. Lots of choices and just about every pair of shoes I liked and tried on were available in my size.
I found at least 4 pairs of boots I wanted to buy. They even had a few Over-The-Knee boots! I would have spent hours trying on shoes if I hadn’t been with my mother and 2 year old daughter… They don’t love shoes as much as I do.
I settled on the Me Too flats because they are really comfortable and versatile. They will look great with jeans, pants, skirts and dresses. Plus they were only $34.99.

Don’t Purchase This: Earth Aspire Flats

My not so positive review of Earth Aspire shoes
Even though I love heels, there is a need in my line of work for flats. I actually love flats. They were my shoe of choice for the longest time, and they are my default shoes for my non-work days. However, not all flats are created equal. Just because a shoe is a flat does not mean it will be comfortable. Nor does it mean it will be useful for what you need it. At my new venue I do considerably more standing and walking around than I have previously, and as such, I have been trying different flat shoes to accommodate.
The first pair I tried was a carry over from my previous employment, and I found out quickly that they were not sufficient. The second pair I tried was a slightly modified version of the first, but still managed to blister and hurt my feet. So for the third pair, I decided to do some research and splurge a little on some better quality shoes. I looked up many different brands and finally, based on a tip from someone, settled on the Earth footwear brand.
From the website, I found that these shoes were made from special, light weight, form fitting material, called BioFit, and they also had a special “negative heal technology” called Kalsø. This is supposed to strengthen and tone the legs while promoting a “natural walking motion”. Looking through the website a found that these shoes look better than some of the other toning shoes I’ve seen, but they are still not the most stylish shoes ever. That aside, I decided to go to one of internet stores that sell the shoes (they’re not for sale on the actual website) and look at some of the reviews.
