Pregnancy Safe Body Wash & Natural Stretch Mark Oil

Pregnancy is not only a time to pamper yourself, but a time to make sure you are only using the natural and safest products possible on your skin.

Take extra precaution to avoid body washes and soaps that contain Sodium Laureth Sulfate.

It’s a little known fact that soaps and shampoos contain sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) are exactly the same chemicals you’ll find in the dish soap you use to degrease your dirty dishes… In the same way as it dissolves the grease on fry pans, sodium lauryl sulfate also dissolves the good and natural oils on your skin and scalp, which can leave you with dry itchy skin.

People who frequently use products containing SLS or SLES can end up with chronic dry skin. While SLES doesn’t cause cancer like some rumors have stated, it still isn’t the best thing you can be putting on your skin. This is why many companies are now making sulfate-free products. Take for instance the recently introduced EverPure Sulfate-Free Color Care System from L’Oreal.

The truth of the matter is, 90% of shampoos and body washes contain these ingredients so you have to read your labels carefully!!!!!

If you don’t have a lot of time to research every product in your bathroom, it’s best to purchase products from a trusted company like Earth Mama Angel Baby.

Shower in Style – Dial NutriSkin with Fruit Oil

I’m a shower product freak. My bathroom looks like a teenage girl bought every pretty smelling product imaginable and stuffed them all into a too-small area. But showers and baths are such a relaxing time – no hassle, no work and, for many of you supermoms out there, no kids – and I like my personal time to not only smell good, but feel good too.

Since I was old enough to start getting my own bath and body products, I’ve tried everything from LUSH products to Bath & Body Works, Adidas to H20. Sure, some of them cost a lot (let’s just say that in my opinion, LUSH tends to fall short of wonderful. Maybe I have received bad products from them, but they were so slimy!) and some of them just aren’t that effective (I know that many of you love them, but Victoria’s Secret products just don’t cut it in my house)… but I’m willing to give anything a try.

So, when I got the chance to test out the new Dial NutriSkin with Fruit Oil Ultra Hydrating Body Wash, I got excited. Here’s a little bit about the product:

Dial NutriSkin Body Wash features a clean-rinsing formula that’s heavy on moisture and light on skin. It’s packed with nutritious fruit oils that leave skin soft and revitalized, not greasy or grimy. A fresh twist on moisture: Say goodbye to creamy moisturizers and cover your skin in a refreshingly light, fantastically effective moisturizing formula. Dial® NutriSkin with Fruit Oil™ body wash is infused with micro-beads of ultra-hydrating, yet naturally light fruit oil.

Just the look of this product is fun – I was sent the Grape Seed Oil and Lemongrass Body Wash, and it has little golden beads of goodness inside of it – but the real test was in the shower.

I had to pull my hair up (after all, sulfates are bad for Brazilian Blowouts!), but the NutriSkin created a frothy lather and felt really soft and smooth on my skin. It washed off clean and, while I still needed to moisturize after the shower (I do live in Denver, after all), there was definitely a softer and more comfortable feeling stepping out of the shower.

Sometimes if you’re using a bad body wash  (or no body wash at all), you tend to have that tight, uncomfortable dry feeling when you’ve gotten out. That definitely didn’t happen with the Dial NutriSkin. Even the boyfriend liked it because it was a gender-neutral smell (unlike some of my very girly body washes!) and didn’t leave a soapy film on his skin.

What would I improve? I’d probably add more scents (right now they only have Grape Seed Oil & Lemongrass and Cherry Seed Oil & Mint) and maybe offer a sulfate-free option (which would obviously be more expensive). But, for the extremely affordable price of $3.99 for a 16 oz. bottle – I thought they were joking when I saw that number! – this is a great item to try out. If you love it, you’ve found a fun, fresh-smelling and cheaper alternative to what you’re using now (and it’s definitely more moisturing than a body bar!). If you don’t (which I’m pretty sure you will), then you didn’t have to budget to get it in your shower.

This product should be hitting the shelves this month, and you should be able to find a coupon or two for them in your local paper or online (that always tends to happen when new products come out). Will you be trying this new product or not?

Dial Up Your Dose Of Antioxidants… and Chemicals

cran_bw_lrgThis new Dial body wash has everything you want in a soap, plus a few things you don’t…

Their website says:

Environmental stress and drying can prematurely age your skin. Dial® AntiOxidant Body Wash helps reinforce your skin’s defense system while its moisturizing formula, infused with natural cranberry extracts, provides a healthy clean.

First off, it lathers up really nicely providing you with lots of nice soapy suds to get clean in, which is something we all want. However, what makes those rich soapy suds is what you don’t want…

I was disappointed to find that Sodium Laureth Sulfate was the second ingredient in this body wash! It’s a little known fact that soaps and shampoos containing sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) are exactly the same chemicals you’ll find in the dish soap you use to degrease your dirty dishes… In the same way as it dissolves the grease on fry pans, sodium lauryl sulfate also dissolves the good and natural oils on your skin and scalp, which can leave you with dry itchy skin.

The truth of the matter is, 90% of shampoos and body washes contain these ingredients, so I’m not going to tell you that Dial’s new Antioxidant Body Wash is bad, because it isn’t. In fact it smells pretty heavenly and cleans your skin off quite well. Dial has added some extra ingredients into their formula to help combat the drying affects of the suds-creating agents, so this particular body wash is ahead of the rest.

Now that you know about the affects of SLS and SLES, you can help fight dry skin by making sure you use lotion after every shower or bath. This will help put back some of the moisture that the soaps have stripped away. If dry skin is a frequent problem for you, consider trying a sulfate-free body wash like my personal favorite, Shea Terra Lavender of the Khoisan Indigenous Silk & Shea Butter Shower Elixir.

An 18-ounce bottle will cost you $5. If a bar of soap is your weapon of choice when it comes to scrubbing up, you can get a three-pack of Dial AntiOxidant Bar Soap for only $2.49. Don’t forget to print the $1.00 off coupon if you’re going to buy!

P.S. I’m not the only one who thinks Sulfates SUCK…
