5 Summer Trends You Can Wear Right Now

Crocheted Tops

What started off in 2008 as the Crochet Knit Boots Trend has turned into an entire crochet revolution! I’ve been seeing crocheted items in almost every clothing store I’ve been in. From Target to Forever 21, it’s become clear that crocheted accents are one of the hottest trends for Summer 2009.

An easy way to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe is with simple crocheted back tanks. They are perfect for wearing with all your shorts and skirts this summer, but they won’t break the bank. Avon.com offers a 2 pack (1 white, 1 black) for only $19.99. So you can be sporting the crocheted trend with money leftover to splurge on the next few trends below.

If you’re brave, frolic on the beach in a cool crocheted swimsuit like Mischa Barton.

Boyfriend Jeans

One hot trend this Summer is Boyfriend Jeans. In Spring we saw lots of hot pieces that were borrowed from the boys, but as the months have passed, it has fizzled back down to slouchy, relaxed boyfriend jeans. The key to pulling off this look is to balance menswear pieces with something feminine. Try a wearing your boyfriend jeans rolled up with a simple v-neck tee and a feminine necklace. Get outfit ideas from Denise Richards and Sarah Jessica Parker who seem to be paving the way for this comfy trend.

Bright Colors

Summer is all about bold, bright colors! The hottest and easiest way to start sporting this look is to wear one brightly colored item and pair with white or other neutrals to cool it down. There are so many ways to incorporate bright colors into your wardrobe. China Glaze has a great new collection of super hot nail lacquers in 12 fabulous shades. You can also find some brightly colored jewelry in Avon’s new Summer 2009 collection. If you’re really brave, consider sporting some bright yellow shoes! Pink is probably the most popular and fun color to wear in the Summer. Rock a bright pink manicure with a colorful Maxi Dress for a chic and youthful look that works for almost anybody.

Tribal / Boho Prints

This season, flirty silhouettes laden with rich hued tribal prints and bold patterns are showing up everywhere. There is a twist to the look however; many are pairing their Boho dresses with sweet cardigans and nixing flats for chunky heels or gladiators. A good boho print can be great for the office (toned down with a sensible cardigan or blazer), date night or lunch with the ladies. Bohemian looks of old were somewhat sexy and sultry, accented with leather jackets and biker boots. This season we’re aiming for sweet and eclectic with chunky heels and soft colors to take it down a notch. Also there’s a ton of mixing and matching of the cultural prints. African and Oriental prints are marrying happily together whether it be mixing and matching as dresses and belts or tops and skirts.

Crystal Studded Shoes

The ever gorgeous and super talented Rihanna was recently spotted in Balmain Studded Crystal Sandals and oh my goodness, are they gorgeous! These crystal and stud encrusted heels were pretty much the only shoe worn on the Balmain Spring 2009 runway and celebrities everywhere took note. Some celebs recently spotted in these shoes include Molly Sims, Jennifer Connelly, Audrina Partridge, Kelly Clarkson, Gemma Arterton and more. These sandals have quickly become the must-have shoe of the season. You can get some fabulous knock-offs for as little as $25! Check it out >>

Balmain Inspired Shoes: Review And Photos of Jeffrey Campbell MELS

Okay so I got my Jeffrey Campbell Mel from Solestruck.com last week, but wanted to wait to post about them till I got a pictures of these lovely babies on my feet!!
They are every bit as delightful as I hoped they would be. I mean, seriously, just look at these shoes….

I twittered about how I would take pics and let everyone know if these high heels were actually comfortable, and to my surprise, a lot of you were dying to know! Well, you’ll all be happy to hear that they are indeed comfortable. I mean, they’re certainly not FitFlops or anything, but for high heels (33/4” heels to be exact) they are surprisingly comfortable. The 1″ platform makes them easy to walk in and the footbed is actually cushioned (unlike the Steve Madden replicas).

Click To EnlargeIf you have thick or muscular ankles like me, the crystal studded ankle straps may be a bit snug on you. I don’t have much for a heel and my ankles are pretty big from years of professional ballet dancing and wearing pointe shoes, so I found these shoes weren’t exactly made for my feet.

They aren’t unwearable or uncomfortable though. You can just tell from looking at the pic on the left (click to enlarge) that they would look better if I had slimmer ankles and a bigger heel. My feet are not normal though, so I think these shoes would work for most women.

My husband lovingly volunteered to take photos of me wearing the crystal and studded shoes so you could see them with an actual outfit…

I tried to go for a 50′s Glam type outfit. How did I do? Keep in mind that I’m only 5’3″!! I know these shoes would look even better on a girl with long legs. I do like the added height they give me though. I don’t feel short and fat when I’m wearing them. hehe

In short, I think these shoes are pretty freaking fabulous. I am definitely glad I purchased them before they were sold out and I know I will absolutely wear them more than once.

jeffrey-campbell-shoes-mel-black-leather-010604You need to get a pair of Jeffrey Campbell Mel’s for yourself before they are all sold out.

Solestruck’s website says that this is their absolute last shipment of the Mel’s and you need to get them quick! Last I checked, they only had size 7, 7.5 and 8 left. They will set you back $164.95 but they are sooooo worth it!!

Have big feet? Get them on Singer22.com because they have sizes 9, 9.5 and 10 still in stock! However, they cost $195.00 on Singer22.com!

If you’ve seen them some place else, leave a comment and let me know!

Kelly Clarkson wears the fabulous Balmain Studded Crystal Sandals in her new music video “I Do Not Hook Up”.

The sandals feature crisscrossing straps embellished with crystals and studs, double ankle straps embellished with crystals and studs, small loop for big toe, round toe, solid upper with zip closure, leather innersole and sole, suede lining, and a 110 mm tapered covered heel.

These hot statement making shoes were pretty much the only shoe worn on the Balmain Spring 2009 runway.

Rihanna caused quite a stir wearing these fabulous studded sandals. Well you can always count on Steve to make a great knock-off of whatever is the “IT” shoe of the moment. Behold the Steve Madden BRIGGHT

brigght_black-multi

Don’t expect to get your hands on them anytime soon… They won’t ship until 7/21/2009!! And they’ll set you back $89.95. They look more like the Balmain Shoes though…

I found a similar pair on Aldo, but they aren’t quite as fancy… The ALDO Smeal costs $125.00

aldo_smeal

In my search for the perfect replacement, I also found Bakers “Derek” for $79.95

derek

Again, those are pretty, but I don’t like them nearly as much as the Steve Madden ones…

Jeffery Campbell makes a similar pair, but not so similar that I’d call them a knock-off…

Jeffrey Campbell Mel’s are an exclusive, limited-edition style that features skinny vamp straps and a thick ankle cuff encrusted with silver rhinestones and lots of studs for a look that’s distinctly punk-meets-princess. Heighten all the texture talk with a base of glossy patent leather, covering the zip-back heel cup, cylindrical heel, and comfy platform. An open toe lets your toes breathe.

They are smoking hot, but have yet another unappealing price tag. Jeffrey Campbell Mel’s cost $164.95 but you can get free shipping through Solestruck.

After weeks of the shoes being sold out in my size, they finally got restocked and I bought them on an impulse! With my got them for $131.96 because I had a one-time 20% off coupon! Yay! I still can’t remember that last time I spent that much on ONE pair of shoes… Okay truth be told I have never spent that much on a pair of shoes. Geez, I hope I get to wear them at least once!!!!!!!!

The uncanny Balmain replicas that surprisingly aren’t being taken off the market for copyright infringement are the Zara Balmain. If you saw these walking down the street, you probably wouldn’t even tell the difference. They are hard to get a hold of though! The style number is 1369201040 and they cost $169. If you want them, you should probably visit your nearest Zara Store or call and ask if they have them in your size.

Only other option is getting them on eBay.

They are smoking hot all on their own, but with another unappealing price tag. ($170) It seems though my empty wallet is always standing in between me and a hot pair of shoes…

So I will continue on my hunt for something comparable and slightly more affordable… Studs and chains on shoes are going to be a big trend this Summer. Plain jane ballet flats are out and statement making shoes have made their way onto the fashion scene. If they are funky, weird, artistic, or just plain over-the-top, buy them!

Just in case you’re loving Rihanna’s whole outfit:

Jacket: Balmain’s Leather Military Jacket
Jeans: Siwy Hannah Cropped distressed jeans in Obsidian or Citizens of Humanity Avedon Skinny Jeans (currently sold out in black)

Okay, so I found more knock-offs!!
