How To Fake High Cheekbones With Makeup

Posted on: March 03, 2009 @ 11:57 am     No Comments »

Make UpHigh cheekbones are a genetic gift that most of us didn’t get… However, you can be the proud owner of a pair of glamorous cheekbones with some well placed makeup.

We’ve got a few easy tips and tricks on how to shadow your cheekbones with makeup and accentuate your natural beauty. Wondering what high cheekbones look like? My favorite celebrities with chiseled cheekbones are Angelina Jolie and Keira Knightley.

Prominent cheekbones are not only sexy, but they make your face look thinner. This is an easy way to “fake weight loss” too. Some well placed bronzer and highlighters can make a huge difference. And it’s a lot easier than you think! Check out these tips and tricks below to fake your way to gorgeous high cheekbones!

Accentuate your cheekbones

The easiest way to achieve high, prominent cheekbones is to use 10 bronzer and highlighter duo from Benefit.com. It’s a bronzer and highlighter in one sexy sweep. For a supermodel glow and sleek, sculpted cheekbones, this duo of satiny pink and bronze powders tantalizes your complexion and makes you a perfect 10! It’s so easy to apply. Just one brush stroke on each cheek and you’ve highlighted and contoured all at once.

Our other favorite is 10 Palette from Benefit. It’s an amazing powder duo that bronzes and highlights in one sexy sweep to give you sleek, sculpted cheekbones. In this palette they included two seductive shades for lips and complimentary shades for your eyes. This is a limited edition palette that is perfect for makeup amateurs who want something quick and easy to give them the look they desire. Perfect for moms who only have 4 1/2 minutes to throw on some makeup. The 10 Palette allows you to apply your makeup mindlessly in less than a minute, yet look like you had a professional makeup artist do your face.

Quick Tips

To create the illusion of prominent cheekbones (which sculpts your face and creates a slimming effect), swirl mauve blush, powder or bronzer onto the apples of cheeks, then pat a light pink lip balm high up on the cheekbones to catch light. You can also use

One trick that is handy is to use a slightly darker foundation under the cheek bones. Make sure to blend well! If done properly, it looks more natural than a bronzer or powder blush. Next put a dab of highlighter like Benefit High Beam or Benefit Moon Beam, along the top of the cheekbone, again blend well, and finally to soften the look, a little bit of blusher, (pink or peach depending on your skin color) on the “apple ” of your cheeks. Cream or mousse is best as this will blend better with the other 2 products.

Oscar Night’s Best Dressed!

Posted on: February 23, 2009 @ 6:55 pm     5 Comments »

It takes a certain finesse to own a gown. Oscar night was full of gowns wearing stars and not the other way around. It’s hard to find a dress that is eye-catching, sexy and out of the ordinary in the first place without running into trouble. Even harder, is making it look like it was made to be worn by you. Here are a few stars that got it right on Oscar Night!

Angelina Jolie

angelina-jolie-0209-4

A good black gown rules at the Oscars! This woman knows what suits her. Angelina shines in a gorgeous Elie Saab Black floor length gown. Her accessories (Green, my favorite color) add just the right amount of mystery to her look. Love it!

Next up, Anne Hathaway

anne-hathaway

Anne is Luminescent is this gorgeous, pearly, Armani Prive gown. The moon-pale color and sets off her skin tone perfectly, and the shape is classic. She looks like a Oscar Winner.

Natalie Portman is next.

natalie-portman-0209

Looking sweetly divine in this lilac Rodarte masterpiece, Natalie commands camera attention. I love the silhouette of this dress, and the color goes nicely with her complexion.

All hail Halle Berry!

halle-berry

A star through and through the sexiest woman alive doesn’t disappoint. The lovely actress glimmers in this gold and black Marchesa Stunner. Show ‘em how it’s done Halle!

Marisa Tomei takes the crown

marisa-tomei

She truly owned this very unique dress. As I mentioned above, it isn’t easy wearing a dress that could easily wear you, but she did it! This origami, pleated Versace gown is very elegant and obviously meant for a Superstar. Her curves were well highlighted, and you can clearly see she is proud to wear this dress. Well Done Marisa!

It is my personal policy not to name names of the worst dressed, even if the whole world knows. I will however, leave hints!!

Worst Dressed Hints:

A head honcho from the House of Dereon sparkled during her dance number, but sadly floundered due to a bad fishtail gown that was just not Oscar worthy. There was also a “Bolt” star who looked more like a snowflake than an Oscar nominee. Certainly there were more, but I like to focus on the positive, like Kate Winslet winning best actress!!

Honorable Mentions-

Vanessa Hudgens and Jennifer Aniston both looked flawlessly lovely in their gowns, although neither shined brightly enough to make this list.

Think I was wrong? Was there someone you felt was better dressed? Voice your opinions below!

Shea Terra Organics – Moisturize Like A Celebrity

Posted on: January 13, 2009 @ 11:47 am     3 Comments »

sheaterra_logoI recently told you about Shea Terra Organics and how they make Angelina Jolie’s Favorite Body Lotion. I got to try out a couple more products, so I wanted to be sure to tell you what I thought!

First, here’s a little bit about Shea Terra Organics: In business over 12 years, the company is proud to be the first to bring natural skin care with African ingredients to the luxury market. The line is comprised of 99-100% natural products with sustainable and Fair Trade herbs, oils and butters that are indigenous to Africa. The products do not contain any of the bad stuff — sulfates, parabens, silicones, artificial fragrance and coloring. Shea Terra hand makes an array of skin care treatments including Bourbon Vanilla Shea Body Butter (with 40% certified organic shea butter, kigeilli and African potato) Indigenous Liquid Black Soap Elixir (a highly effective 100% natural treatment for skin conditions and discoloration), Shea Nilotica (a 100% natural soft, creamy shea butter with reparative benefits) and Baobab Oil from Tanzania (an age old remedy known to diminish wrinkles and stretch marks).

Bourbon Vanilla Indigenous
Shea Body Butter ($18.00)

This is the ultimate, healing body butter that will pamper your delicate skin with nourishing shea butter and African herbs. So couture! This potent blend reduces stretch marks, soothes eczema and sends dry skin running. It smells great, it feels great, and your skin looks great after you use it. It’s amaaaazing! Slather this on your feet and put on some warm winter socks to rejuvenate your tired feet. Summer time is so busy that it’s nice to take a few minutes to take care of yourself and do a little pampering.

Lavender of the Khoisan Indigenous
Silk & Shea Butter Shower Elixir ($18.00)

This oil based shower elixir gently cleanses without causing dry, itchy skin. Reparative, organic shea butter deeply moisturizes, penetrating beneath the epidermis to deliver valuable nutrients. This is a super moisturizing shower gel that will fight dry, winter skin better than anything you’ve tried before. Use this in conjunction with the above body lotion and you’ll be a smooth as a baby’s bottom! You (and your partner) will thank us later…

b781Menthe Orange Organic
Shea Lip Butter ($4.00)

Looking for a great tasting balm that doubles as a long lasting breath freshener? Want hours of lip protection and soothing lip repair all in one balm? If it is Shea Terra Organics, then you know it is the best on the market. Seriously, this stuff rivals Burt’s Bees big time. It’s my new favorite. It’s sitting right here on my deak and I put it on all day. I keep biting it off because it’s tastes so good though! Good thing it’s organic… Wouldn’t want to do that with Blistex. Ick.

On top of everything, they have exceptional chocolate that will blow your mind. It’s the best chocolate I have ever eaten and I’m pretty much a chocolate connoisseur… True story.

You can get a whopping 30% off on everything on Shea Terra Organics’ entire website from now until February 1, 2009.

Angelina Jolie’s Favorite Body Lotion

Posted on: January 08, 2009 @ 4:30 pm     No Comments »

sheaterra_logoI recently got to try out some awesome products from Shea Terra Organics and I can’t tell you how pleased I am!

Shea Terra Organics has the highest quantities of shea butter than most shea butter products you find on the market today. If you’re looking for high quality shea butter, then you’ve just found it! The natural ingredients used in these products also include aloe ferox, bush mango, African potato, and honeybush – all known to promote skin repair, soften, and cell renewal.

Angelina Jolie uses Shea Terra Nubian Honey Shower Creme, $9, and Shea Butter Body Lotion, $12, which contain Africa-harvested ingredients. Best of all, fifty cents from each bottle sold goes to the Nubian Goat Project, which purchases goats for needy families in Ethiopia. We love Angie because she’s always thinking of helping other and changing the world – even when she’s in the shower!

Angelina Jolie loved the products so much that she actually took the time to write a lovely note to the company’s CEO in which she stated that “the line is amazing”, and that she uses the products on her entire family. Wow!

Shea Nilotica Certified
Organic Shea Butter ($16.00)

This is my favorite product from Shea Terra Organics. This is the most luxurious, deeply moisturizing shea butter I have ever used. Not at all like any shea butter I have used before, this actually melts into your skin providing unsurpassed healing affect to your delicate skin. It is so good, that I use it on my daughter after I take her out of the bath. It keeps all the moisture locked in so skin stays smooth, even in this dry winter weather. I highly recommend this one!

Miombo Mango Shea Butter
Dead Sea Salt Scrub ($18)

A really nice and luxurious. Perfect for winter time. You can exfoliate and moisturize at the same time. It has a light pleasant scent and is gently enough for even the most sensitive skin. Dead Sea salt and organic shea butter combine to produce this luxuriant, non-oily body scrub.

African Lemongrass Indigenous
Black Soap Elixir ($18.00)

This is a fantastic black soap that cleanses gently and smells wonderful. I noticed immediately that it cleared up some small pimples on my arms and shoulders and left my skin clear and more even. It’s also known to speed up healing of open wounds, diminish razor bumps, and dissolves the “glue” that holds on dead skin cells. This is a must-have for your shower routine.

Honeybush Peach Body Nectar
Oil Spray ($22.00)

Shea Terra’s Body Nectar Sprays provide hours of much-needed moisturize. Shea butter oil works at cellular level to plump skin cells and forms an anti-aging barrier against moisture loss and that is exactly what us mom’s need. When I get out of the shower, I very lightly towel dry, leaving my skin damp with a little water left on, then I spray myself down with the Oil Spray and rub it in well. It’s not greasy and won’t stain clothes, so you can get dressed as soon as you’re done!

On top of everything, they have exceptional chocolate that will blow your mind. Their dark chocolate is the “hard stuff” you want to stock up on for those “times of the month” when we need to indulge a little…

You can get a whopping 30% off on everything on Shea Terra Organics’ entire website from now until February 1, 2009.
