Trend Alert – Chains

This gold link chain head wrap is the latest trend. I love it because it instantly gives even the most uncooperative hair the look of a sophisticated, just-rushed-out-of-the-salon style, and who doesn’t need that? The gold link chain is interlaced with a 5/8″ wide grosgrain ribbon, and band measures 1″ across total. It loops around your head with a comfortable, stretchy elastic loop thingie.

When I first spotted these Cara Couture headbands on Intermix, I immediately fell in love. But when I noticed the price tag of $55.00, I was less than impressed…

So imagine my delight when I stumbled upon a cheaper version on Delia’s!

They don’t come in the same beautiful colors as the Cara Couture ones do, but for only $14.50, that’s not a big deal.

They are currently available in red and black. Go buy one now >>

I love these little flats. If I wasn’t so low on cash right now, I would buy these because they are perfect for fall. Pair them with some wool trousers, a white button down shirt, and a simple sweater vest. That is the hottest fall trend right now! And conveniently, it’s perfect for work.

Celebrity Fashion – Angelina Jolie

If you were to ask me who I thought was the most beautiful woman in the world, I would probably say, “Angelina Jolie” without hesitation, as would many others. Regardless of whether you think she’s attractive or not, she still has a great sense of fashion. I have never seen her in something I didn’t like. Whether she’s going down the red carpet or out with her kids getting groceries, she always looks super hot.

In light of that, I thought it was only fair to do a celebrity fashion post on her. This may not be one of her best outfits ever, but I happened to see it, fall in love with her shirt, and thus decided I had to post about it.

Doesn’t that shirt look uber comfortable? Great elastic waist, comfy jersey material, and it’s loooong. Just the right length to cover your tooshie and yet still flatter your curves. I don’t know what brand her shirt is, but I found a similar style with long sleeves at Forever 21 for only $17.80. It’s a dark, mocha brown color with that beautiful cinched waistline. And remember, you can always take a regular shirt and add a belt of the same color to create a similar look.

Angie’s jeans are pretty normal. They appear to be a standard skinny / straight leg jean in a beautiful dark wash. You can buy similar jeans from the Gap starting around $29.99 or you can snag a great pair from Old Navy for around $25.00.

Aside all better judgment, she’s wearing black flip flops. Regular, ol’, $1.50 flip flops. I know, I know. I told you to throw away all your flip flops… Well, if you didn’t listen to me, now they will come in handy. And if you don’t already own a pair, please don’t go out and buy them! Honestly, you can wear any shoes with this outfit.

As for Angelina’s gorgeous bag… it’s probably some fancy brand like Chloe or Coach, so I know I’ll never be able to afford one and neither will some of you! (And even if you can afford it, who really wants to blow 2k on a bag???!!!) In light of that fact, let’s focus on compromising, shall we?

Her bag is quite large. I would even go so far as to call it a fancy duffel bag. No one needs a handbag that big unless of course they are using it as a carry-on for going on a plane (like Ang is seen doing here) or if they need something to carry their diaper bag, purse, children, dog, and personal refrigerator in it.

So let’s go for a smaller version without compromising style. Try this leather Hobo style handbag from Wal Mart for only $14.88. Or try something a little larger with this white tasseled bag from Forever 21 for only $25.80.

Wal Mart still has some fabulous sunglasses in stores that look very similar to the ones that Angelina is seen wearing in these pics. I happen to have a pair that look just likes those. I paid like $9 for them, I think. If you want to buy them online though, take a peek at these beauties from Old Navy for only $4.99.

She wearing her hair in a low, messy bun; a very easy style to sport. I wear my hair like that almost every day. If your hair is long enough to put into a pony tail, you can usually twist it around in such a way to create a bun like style. If you already have long hair, than you probably know how to make a messy bun.

So there you have it! Go out grocery shopping Angelina style. If anyone reading this knows and recognizes any of the brands she is wearing, please leave a comment! Questions? Just email me! :-)

Victoria’s Secret – High Waist Jeans

I’m sorry, but I just HAD to post these. I think they are the coolest pants ever!

I love the wide leg and the high waist. It makes the model look miles long in them. Plus the perfect wide waistband with gold trim double-button closure. You can’t see very well in the picture but it has little metal detail. I’m not much for pleated pants, but for some reason, it works on these.

The dark wash is beautiful… Looks fabulous with that white shirt tucked in. If I didn’t mention it already, wide leg pants/trousers/jeans are the big thing this fall. Buy them now before they are sold out.

I wish these weren’t $68.00 or I’d buy them in a heartbeat!!!!

Fashion 101 – Wardrobe Basics

Save time and money with
wardrobe techniques from the pros.

Wardrobe Capsules

A capsule is a group of clothes that mix and match and can be bought together to save time and money. Season, color, style and fabric should be considered when grouping clothes together in a capsule. For optimum results, capsules should be built around one or two ‘anchor’ jackets that can be worn with various pieces in your wardrobe to form suits and other outfits. Versatility is the key to creating a successful capsule.

Once established, a capsule can be expanded and pieces added or replaced very easily. When considering a new addition to your wardrobe, make sure that the piece matches at least three to four other existing garments. This will reduce the ‘cost per wearing’ of each piece in your wardrobe.

“Cost Per Wearing” Formula

Let’s use a $200 jacket in our example:

First, divide the cost of the jacket by the number of garments in your wardrobe capsule that can be worn with it. Let’s say that I have 1 dress, 2 pairs of slacks and 2 skirts that can be worn with the jacket – a total of 5 garments. (ie: $200/5 = $40)

The $200 jacket has now been reduced to a cost of $40

Next, divide the new cost of $40 by the number of times the jacket will be worn per year (ie: $40/20 = $2)

The $200 jacket has now been further reduced to a cost $2

The last step is to divide the new cost of $2 by the number of years the jacket will be worn (ie: $2/5 = 40 cents)

Final Result: A $200 jacket has been reduced to a cost of 40 cents with the use of wardrobe capsules and careful upkeep.
