Internet Safety and Privacy

There’s a site called Spokeo.com that’s a new online USA phone book that makes available personal information: everything from pictures you’ve posted on Facebook or the Web, your approximate credit score, the address and pictures of where you live, your income, your age, your relationships… You can remove yourself by searching your name, finding the page for yourself, and copying the URL.  Then go to the  bottom of the page and click on the Privacy link to remove yourself. It’s hard enough to maintain privacy these days, who needs all this personal information floating around in cyber-space!

If you changed your name when you got married, be sure to check under your maiden name as well…

Resolutions For the New Year

It’s that time of year again, the time to make our New Year Resolutions.  (I capitalized that for a reason!)    Like most people, I have a love/hate relationship with resolutions, and like most people, I come out with guns blazing the first few weeks of January, but by the time February has rolled around it’s a whole different story.  I have great expectations (and aspirations) for 2011, along with a few significant personal resolutions, but a fashion blog is not the forum to go into the deep recesses of my soul!  So to keep things light, here is my list of Resolutions for 2011:

1)  Reduce my coffee habit (but you already knew about that one)

2)  Use eye cream every night and not just on the days when I feel like I look old

3)  Not purchase a new item for my wardrobe unless I can come up with 3 separate ways to style the piece BEFORE it becomes part of my wardrobe

4)  Eat more raw foods and foods in their natural, rather than processed state

5)  For each new item that enters my wardrobe (shoes, clothes, accessories) donate one gently used wardrobe item to charityDo you make resolutions every year?  Do you keep them?  Send us a comment and let us know.

Merry Christmas To Our Lovely Readers!

And yeah, it’s okay to say Merry Christmas!
It’s Jesus’ Birthday after all!

“For God so loved the world,
that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

May you and your family have a
blessed, peaceful and fashionable Christmas!

Holiday Safety Tip

You’re probably expecting a post on more great last minute gift ideas or fabulous holiday outfits but not this time…we’ll save those for later today or tomorrow.  Now is the time to remind you to check the smoke detectors in your house and make sure they are in good working order.  With all the lit candles, and fires in fireplaces, and lights on the trees and overloaded outlets, you may be increasing the chances of a fire in your home.

So take a few minutes to make sure that the batteries in your smoke detectors are fresh, and if you have pets or small children, check the wires on tree or decorative lights to make sure that they are safely plugged in and not frayed.

The Fashionable Housewife wishes you a safe and happy holiday.
