Today’s Outfit: Kirsten Borrink in Tsubo Asmik

Posted on: December 17, 2009 @ 9:00 am     No Comments »

Kirsten Borrink from Barking Dog Shoes is here again to show us her fabulous Winter ensemble featuring the Tsubo Women’s Asmik Wedge!

Kirsten Borrink in Tsubo Asmik

I wish I could say I wore them out dancing, as they’d be perfect for such an evening. The wedge heel gives me a little height without the teeter-totter feel.

Tsubo Women's Asmik Wedge in Black

The Shoes:
The extra cushioning at the forefoot and heel make the Tsubo Asmik even more foot-friendly. But alas, I wound up wearing them to the California Pizza Kitchen and sat in a booth eating my suburban fare. But my feet looked cute. See, not only is the Asmik comfy and stylish, it makes my foot look dainty! My size 10 feet looked dainty! Alert the press…  The Tsubo Asmik is available @ Zappos for $140 (fits true to size and width).

The Outfit:
My girlfriend who has a knack for putting together smashing outfits on a budget asked me to go “resale-ing” with her last weekend. After bagging a few tops at the Goodwill, she drove me to The Clothes Mentor here in the western suburbs of Chicago. Amigas mias, you must check the store locater to see if there’s one near you. I found this snow leopard sweater for $7, the silver circles necklace for $3 plus a new with tags Ann Taylor dress for $20 and a Gap buffalo plaid shirt for $8. You’ll find plenty of designer names and current styles. The shoe selection is incredible!

Sweater: Express (from The Clothes Mentor consignment shop)
Necklace: vintage (from the Clothes Mentor–was $3!)
Pants: 7 for All Mankind from TJ Maxx
Belt: Nine West from TJ Maxx

Today’s Outfit: FitFlop Billow Mules in Camel

Posted on: December 09, 2009 @ 5:42 pm     4 Comments »

fitflop_billow1

No, those aren’t Ugg boots! They are Fitflop Billow mules in Camel and I like them very much!!

The lovely people at FitFlop are too cheap to send me a pair, so I had to save up and buy myself a pair… on eBay. I got them for $60 with free shipping, which isn’t an amazing deal, but it was better than nothing. They retail for $99 so I got them for like 40% off and they are bran new. So I was quite pleased.

Today’s Outfit: Kirsten Borrink in Born Della Clogs

Posted on: November 09, 2009 @ 4:59 pm     3 Comments »

Kirsten Borrink from BarkingDogShoes.com has another fabulous outfit to go with her new Born Della clogs!

‘Tis the season for berry red patent clogs. I first reviewed this comfortable shoe back in July, but find myself wearing the Born Della more as the oranges and russets of fall fade making way for cooler, crisper colors of the coming season. I also wear these more because they’re just fabulously foot-friendly.

If Dansko or Sanita clogs are too hard on the soles of your feet, try a pair of these lightweight, cushioned clogs by Born. The fit is fantastic, with moderate arch support and plenty of room for the toes. You can even adjust the width across the instep–those silver buckles not only look cool, they’re functional!

I’ve had some bad experiences with other open-back clogs- I start walking at a faster clip and send one flying into the air. Not so with these; they stay put.

Normally I wear the Born Della with jeans, but decided to dress them up today with tights, pleated skirt, black turtleneck sweater and my favorite necklace passed on to me from my mom–I think it’s from Israel? All this to show you it’s truly a versatile little shoe.

Click here for a list of where to purchase these shoes!

Today’s Outfit: Kirsten Borrink

I absolutely adore Kirsten from BarkingDogShoes.com! She’s one of those most fashionable mommies I know and wanted to show you ladies how a mom of 2 can look great and be comfortable, all while staying on a budget!

So here is Today’s Outfit by Kirsten Borrink!

Kirsten Borrink from BarkingDogShoes.com

Kirsten Borrink from BarkingDogShoes.com

If I could update my wardrobe from one catalog, it would be Garnet Hill. Now that I’m 41, I have to choose my clothes more carefully as not to appear Forever 21 or on the flip-side, Forever Appleseed’s.

But aye, here’s the rub. Garnet Hill clothing, as lovely as it may be, is too pricey for this budget-conscious mom of two. After eying a gray sweater dress for close to $100 in said catalog, I harnessed my deal-finding powers and headed to TJ Maxx. Look what I found! A two-tone charcoal gray and black sweater dress for $29.99 (brand is London Times, which I only found online at Overstock). To complete the outfit, I added a necklace from Francesca’s Collections ($27.99), purple Hue tights from TJ Maxx ($9.99), button bracelet from Greece(gift from my aunt) and my beloved Sofft Mela slouch boots from last season.

You can find the Sofft Mela boot on clearance for $99 at The Walking Company.

Sofft has a similar Sofft Vittoria style called the Vittoria that is even more stylish than the Mela. The Vittoria has a fold-over cuff and bow detail in the back. Other than that, it’s just an updated version of the Mela!

Today’s Outfit: Camo Pants

Posted on: September 03, 2009 @ 8:54 am     1 Comment »

to_camo1

Okay, so today I’m wearing these pleated camo pants I got on Victoria’s Secret website in July for only $14.99. Of course they aren’t on there now because they sold out, but there are similar new Fall styles on there like these cuff bottom utility pants.

I find VS sizes to be unreliable. I bought a similar pair, same London Jean brand, same material even, in a size 4 and they were a little too small. So I got these in a size 6 and they are quite big. They fit me more like a size 8. I’m not sure why, but it makes me leery of buying more pants from VS. Has anyone else had this problem?

These are cuffed pants, but I roll them up to give them more of a boyfriend style. I’m wearing them with my Indigo by Clarks “Tofu” Sandals so that I don’t look short and wide. lol I got these awesome and very comfortable sandals for only $39 during a Clarks Boutique on RueLaLa.com. Right now, they are on sale on Amazon.com for only $28.78. You’ll find it in all 7 colors too, but they vary in price so take a look.

Anyway, this frumpy looking black shirt is actually my favorite shirt in the world. It’s a sleepwear shirt from Target and it’s the softest, most perfectly shaped shirt ever. It might look frumpy folded up, but it looks great on because the material is thin and it hangs just right. I love it!

I wasn’t sure what to wear for accessories, so I went with the Attitude Bracelet from Twisted Silver. It’s funky and light weight, so it’s a standby accessory of mine. I haven’t quite figured out how to rock the boyfriend style with camo pants, so any suggestions would be helpful! I didn’t know whether to go with a layered necklace to tone down the camouflage print or whether to play it up with a wide belt and some big hoops – Rihanna style. What do you think???

Shirt: Target
Pants: Victoria’s Secret
Shoes: Indigo by Clarks
Bracelet: Twisted Silver

Today’s Outfit: TOMS & YMI Jeans

I can’t believe it’s the last day of August. I have NO idea where my summer went. Well… actually I do. I spent way too much time blogging and answering emails and not enough time swimming and playing with my 2 year old.

Today, it feels like the last day of September, even though it’s really the last day of August. It only got up to 68°F today and there’s been a slight breeze. Really, quite a nice day, but one that I would much rather be more towards the end of next month. I think we only got like 2 weeks of summer up here in NH.

I’m just hanging out in a TOMS t shirt and my fav YMI distressed skinny jeans. Totally casual, nothing fashionable, but you gals have been bugging me to take a pic of myself actually wearing one of my outfits and today your wish is granted. My daughter’s naptime gave me just enough time to run outside and take a pic and also get a few other things done.

I love this TOMS tee because it’s soft, fits perfect, and says “Be the change.” on the front with a faded picture of TOMS shoes. For every pair of TOMS shoes that you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of shoes to a child in need. One for One. It’s an amazing company. TOMSshoes.com

I have a couple pairs of TOMS shoes and I love them. Super comfy, lightweight, slip on shoes that are great for wearing around the house. My favorite pair are the Cobalt Blue Suede ones.

If you don’t have a pair, today is the time to buy! You can get $5 off your first pair of TOMS Shoes with the coupon code FirstTOMS! But hurry, offer ends 8/31/09!

I got this Purple Ruffle Blouse on eBay from xtinascripps, the author of Christina’s Favorite Things blog. I don’t follow as many blogs as I used to, but I always make sure to check out Christina’s blog every week and she’s one of my fav eBay sellers too! I love her taste in clothing…

Today I am wearing this blouse tucked into YMI Skinny Jeans, one of my fav pairs. They are soft, stretch, and fit me perfect. I accessorized with a simple black belt and my Cynthia H “Love Who You Are” Bracelet.

So glad I finally found something to wear my Privo by Clarks "Kristie" Grey Sporty Ballet Flats with. I bought these back in early June during a Clarks sale at Rue La La. I got them for only $39! They are super comfy and I love the purple patent trim. I don’t think the grey ones are available anymore, but you can find the brown ones on Macys.com and Shoes.com.

Shirt: Penguin Clothing
Jeans: YMI Skinny Jeans
Shoes: Privo by Clarks "Kristie"

Today’s Outfit: Boho with Linea Pelle

I got this silk-blend ruffle cami on Gap.com for $17.99. It’s on sale now for only $9.99 but only limited sizes are available. It also comes in pink and purple. This is a great top for someone with small breasts (like myself) because it adds the extra fullness you need to balance your look. This top is also great for Pear Shaped bodies for the same reason. Fullness up on top will help balance the fullness in your hips and thighs.

I’m wearing it today with a denim skirt I got at a thrift store for $1.00. I’m not sure of the brand… I love the pretty floral embroidery on it. Such a casual outfit calls for comfy sandals and these flip flops fit the bill. I’ve had them for several years and they are most comfortable pair of sandals I own. I think I got them at Wal Mart…

To bring this whole outfit together, I chose to wear Alex and Ani Tree of Life Expandable Bangle Set and use my Linea Pelle handbag.

Click To EnlargeThis is the handbag that I won in the Purse Blog Twitter giveaway back in July. It’s a Linea Pelle ‘Dylan Patchwork’ tote in tobacco leather. It retails for $495.00, but is on sale online at Bluefly.com for only $189.99 right now! Shop Bluefly!

I love Linea Pelle because all their handbags are made out of incredibly soft and supple leather. The tobacco leather is especially nice and the color is fantastic. The rings and studs make the bag a little bit heavier than I’d like, but the great looks and convenient outside pockets make up for that.

Shirt: Gap.com
Skirt: thrift store
Shoes: Wal Mart
Handbag: Linea Pelle
Bracelet: Alex and Ani

Ideal for: hourglass, pear, and slim/athletic body shapes

Today’s Outfit: DKNY Dress from Marshalls

Posted on: August 21, 2009 @ 8:50 am     2 Comments »

to_dkny1

Speaking of awesome savings at TJ Maxx, do you remember how I recently did Fashion Makeovers at Marshalls and TJ Maxx? Well, while I was helping my gorgeous friends Jaclyn and Ashley shop at Marshalls, I came across this fabulous DKNY dress. I immediately picked it out for Jaclyn and made her try it on. She look absolutely fabulous in it! So much so, that I went back to the clearance rack to find one in my size! Luckily, there was one left… in my size!

What a score… This $89.00 dress was on sale at Marshalls for only $20.00!! Seriously, you can’t get any better than that.

dkny_01 dkny_03 dkny_02

Click the pics above to enlarge. Yes, I actually photographed the price tags before wearing it so that I could prove to you the prices I just stated are REAL! I know, I’m such a dork…

Okay, so I realized after putting the pictures above in that my earrings and bracelets aren’t showing up very well, so here is a closeup…

to_dkny2 to_dkny3

I looooove these earrings. I got them on sale at a Forever 21 store in Maine, while on vacation this summer. They were like $2 and I wear them all the time. The butterflies are so whimsical, but in a grown-up sort of way. And do I even have to tell you why these Alex and Ani expandable bangles are awesome. They are the must-have accessory right now. All the celebs are wearing them!

Dress: DKNY Jeans
Shoes: Seychelles ‘Yes Ma’am’ Peep-toe Buckle Pumps Overstock for $28.99
Earrings: Forever 21
Bracelet: Alex and Ani

I love this Blouson cami in hazy floral. It has a gathered drawstring waist which I love. I got it on sale for $23 back in mid June from victoriassecret.com. Unfortunately, I can’t find it on the website anymore. Must have sold out…

I’m wearing it with distressed denim shorts I got at Old Navy on sale for $19 with Indigo by Clarks “Zambia” Black Leather sandals that are super comfy. I got them in a Clarks Shoes Boutique at Rue La La for only $39! I particularly like these shoes because the leather is very soft, the heel is a great height for all day wear, padded footbed, and they are great dressed up or dressed down. I wear these with shorts, jeans, capris, skirts and dresses. They are very versatile.

If you are interested in a pair, you can get them 20% off at Zappos, for 25% off at Onlineshoes.com, for 45% off at Endless.com and they are 50% off at Piperlime.com. They come in brown, grey, brick (burnt orange color), and black.

to_punk5I got this fabulous bag during a Betsey Johnson sale at Rue La La. The Betsey Frill Leather Tote retails for $345 but was on Rue La La for only $149. I had $72 of credits though, so I only paid $86.90 including S&H. It has enough room for all the essentials and then some and the soft leather handles make it really easy and comfortable to tote around all day.

If you love it and want one, you can get it on Endless.com. (Hurry, it’s on sale right now!)

Today’s Outfit: Punk Rocker Chick

to_punk2 to_punk3 to_punk4

I’m dressing casual today. Comfy gray skinny jeans with a black tank top from Betsey Johnson Intimates. I got it on eBay for $4.25 and I love it! Doesn’t look like sleepwear to me, with the little buttons and all, so I wear it out and about. It must be old though because I can’t find anymore like it online.

to_punk5I got this fabulous bag during a Betsey Johnson sale at Rue La La. This fabulous Betsey Johnson Betsey Frill Leather Tote retails for $345 but was on Rue La La for only $149. I had $72 of credits though, so I only paid $86.90 including S&H. So happy with this purchase.

If you love it and want one, you can get it on Endless.com.

And I’m wearing my Indigo by Clarks “Tofu” Sandals that I got for only $39 during a Clarks Boutique on RueLaLa.com. (Can you tell I’m a Rue La La addict?)

You can get the shoes on Piperlime for $69.99. They only have limited sizes left though… If you want them really bad though (and Piperlime doesn’t have your size) you can find them on Shoemall.com or Zappos.com

Today’s Outfit: Dreem Tee & Boyfriend Jeans

Posted on: July 23, 2009 @ 9:53 pm     No Comments »

to_7.23

This is one of my fav tees of all time. It’s from a little known brand called Dreem which is a mom-run business catering specifically to moms and moms-to-be who want to show off their motherly status. I first posted about these awesome tees in November 2008 and said I would post “Today’s Outfit” pics of me in the shirt soon… Um, well… I guess “soon” meant within 12 months… lol

Today I wore the shirt with my fav boot cut Banana Republic jeans that I rolled up to give them that “boyfriend jean” look. Getting the look for less! I’ve had these jeans for like 4 years, they are soft and worn in now and best of all, I got them $5 on eBay.

Betsey Johnson Betsey Frill ToteThe bag is Betsey Johnson Betsey Frill Leather Tote. I just got it in the mail today! It was a recent score in the Betsey Johnson Boutique RueLaLa.com. The bag retails for $345 but was on Rue La La for only $149. I had $72 of credits though, so I only paid $86.90 including S&H. SCORE!!!

If you love it and want one, you can get it on Endless.com.

And finally, the shoes… They are Indigo by Clarks “Tofu” Sandal that I got for only $39 during a Clarks Boutique on RueLaLa.com.

You can get them on Piperlime for $69.99 if you have small feet, or really big feet. lol Limited sizes left… If you want them really bad though (and Piperlime doesn’t have your size) you can find them on Shoemall.com or Zappos.com

Jeans: Banana Republic
Handbag: Betsey Johnson Betsey Frill Leather Tote

aerosoles_katapult

If you are in search of some Summer wedges that are comfortable, yet stylish and will go with anything from dresses to shorts, then you are in luck because I found the perfect pair for you!

Aerosoles Katapult is a tailored leather sandal with real stopping power, featuring wide leather straps and a large silver buckle that is ultra chic. You’ll really enjoy the sueded sock lining and squishy cushioned footbed on a flexible sole. Plus, they are super lightweight.

I wore these all weekend and I am so happy I bought these. I wore them on Saturday with the outfit seen below as well as on Sunday with shorts and tank top.

Click To Enlarge Click To Enlarge
Click To Enlarge Click To Enlarge

The footbed is sooo comfortable you can practically bounce in these. They fit pretty true to size… I could run in these sandals without a problem, making them perfect for me this summer, since I need to chase my 2 year old!

My only complaint would be that the front strap is a little snug. I don’t know if it will stretch much, but we’ll see. I saw one other person complained about this in the reviews on Shoebuy.com. I don’t have particularly chubby feet, so I’m not sure why it’s so snug. Maybe ordering a half size bigger would solve this problem?

Either way, these are still some of the most comfortable wedge sandals I own, and I have a lot of shoes! The 3 inch wedge heel doesn’t seem that high, but is just enough of a heel to make my legs look great in skirts, shorts, dresses or whatever.

Want a pair for yourself? Get them on Shoebuy.com for $68.95 and check out RetailMeNot.com for coupons and discounts.

You can also find them on Aerosoles.com and Endless.com. I bought mine in light orange from Shoebuy.com, as you can see, but they are also available in black, brown, white, and red.

Today’s Outfit: Crochet Shirt & Skinny Jeans

It’s raining for like the 4th day in a row, here in New Hampshire. Not very summery weather at all. So when I went to get dressed this morning, I wasn’t in a bright colors / floral print sort of mood…

I love these purple skinny jeans. They are like my favorite jeans right now. The waist is way too big for me, but everything else fits perfect. I always wear the Invisibelt with these because it’s slim and “invisible” under slim fitting shirts making it perfect to wear with skinny jeans. This belt is a life saver for me!

I’ve paired the Jolt jeans with a black crochet tee that I picked up at Forever 21, on sale for $4. It’s actually Heritage 1981. Since I’m going shopping today and doing errands, I chose to wear my black leather Blowfish flats.

I got this Betseyville by Betsey Johnson tote bag on eBay for like $20 and I have the matching makeup cases to go inside. I normally don’t go for things this flashy, but for some reason, the bling really caught my eye and I had to have it. I think it’s the perfect addition to this outfit to really give it some life! I also added this cute Lisa Leonard Designs bracelet for a personal touch…

Today’s Outfit: Little In The Middle Jeans

Posted on: May 26, 2009 @ 7:00 am     1 Comment »

Click To Enlarge Click To Enlarge

I’m wearing Little in the Middle Jeans in style “Confident”, a low rise distressed boot cut that sits above the hips.

A collection of signature jeans designed to fit women with small waists and slightly larger hips, Little in the Middle jeans come in sizes ranging from 00 up to 20, are reasonably priced at around $130 and get this…are even produced in the US. These are real jeans for real women. If you’ve ever had trouble finding the right jeans to fit your curvy figure, Little In The Middle in the answer!

Designer Lee Ann Park launched Little in the Middle in the hopes of revolutionizing women’s clothing to reflect a real fit. She designed her denim line around her own patented “one-up” sizing chart after years of frustration with her own voluptuous figure and the lack of fashion catering to her build. For example, a size 6.1 is designed to fit a woman who’s a size 6 waist, but a size 8 through the hips and thighs.

This unique sizing system works wonderful. The pair I am wearing in the pics above are size 4.1 which is a size 4 through the waist and a size 6 through the hips, which is exactly what I’ve always wanted and could never find! The pair I’m wearing is actually a little big for me because I recently lost some weight, so I think I could go down a size to maybe a 2.1 for a perfect fit.

Little in the Middle jeans are featured in the June issue of OK! magazine. ” Little in the Middle has answered our prayers with their new patented OneUp FIT. Finally, jeans that eliminate the waist gapping for women with curves.”

It’s no wonder why these jeans are getting popular! I know I’m not the only woman who has trouble shopping for jeans, nevermind a swimsuit… True, some companies have caught on to the crazy notion that women were actually born with curves (imagine that?) but let’s face it- jeans for the masses are created with the image of a 5′ 10″, size 2 woman in mind. (Does she exist?)

Well, don’t lose hope just yet because Little In The Middle has created stylish, sexy, affordable jeans that are designed to fit what your mama’ gave ya! You can get Little In The Middle jeans on TrueJeans.com for $129.00. And be sure to take the quick sizing survey to help Little In The Middle make even better jeans for us gals with real bodies!
