Guest Post: Top Swim Trends for 2012

This post is a guest post, written by Susan Bodack of InStyleSwimwear.com. Author bio follows at the end of this post.

Call me crazy, but I’m already looking forward to the new swim season.  With winter quickly approaching and all the sneak peeks of the 2012 designer swimwear collections, can you really blame me?  As always, the 2012 swim trends mimic the hottest fashion trends from the runway.  In my world (the wonderful world of designer swimwear), a number of 2012 styles are already available for purchase, and many more are on their way!  Fashionistas take note— here are 3 of the top 2012 swim trends, straight from the mouth of an industry insider.

1. Colorblocking

This year, colorblocking is back as one of the biggest 2012 swim trends, as well as one of the hottest trends in the fashion world.  The best thing about this swimwear trend is that it comes in a variety of styles.  For the bold fashionista, you’ll love the “classic clash” look; this version generally features two hues that don’t seem to go at all, but when done in traditional colorblock fashion, it really works.  But for those who prefer a more subtle look, go for a swimwear style featuring a bold color paired with a neutral (think black, white or grey) or those that feature a thin neon strip.  If you’re a lover of the sporty-chic look or marvelously mod fashion, the colorblock swimwear trend will be your new best friend.

2. Smocking

The smocking trend has been around for quite some time.  Although we typically see it with certain styles of cover-ups (like the smocked strapless dress), it’s popping up this year as one of the top 2012 swim trends.  We all know that designers love to experiment with texture and when juxtaposed against that smooth swimwear fabric, smocking lends some amazing textural contrast.  In addition, smocking has that one-size-fits-all effect so it looks and feels so flattering against your body.  Expect to see smocked detail on swimwear tops, bottoms, one-pieces and of course, cover-ups.

3. Shades of Orange

Every season has its “it” colors and once you check out the brand new collections, you’ll see that one of the hottest 2012 swim trends is orange.  In fact, there isn’t a single designer swimwear brand that doesn’t feature an orange group for 2012!  In addition to classic orange hues, you’ll see that fruit-inspired shades are all the rage.  Think cantaloupes, peaches, mangos and papayas in both solid and printed swimwear styles.  With the wide variety of hues, any woman with any skin tone can rock this season’s “it” color.

50% Or More Off SWIM WEAR at Lands End

I know it’s kinda late in the season to be posting a swimwear review but I had to actually get outside and try it out before posting about it! If I spent all day on the computer, I wouldn’t be outside actually USING the swimsuit in order to review it! HA! So there is my very eloquent excuse for taking so long…

First off, Lands’ End is having a HUGE sale on swimwear! Women’s, Men’s, Girls and Boys! 50-70% off! Sale ends Tuesday (7/18/2011) though so HURRY!

Secondly…. Lands’ End rocks my world. They totally know how to make a great swimsuit, cover and slim all the right places and yet look alarmingly fashionable.

Course you can’t take my word for it. I am neither skinny, nor am I in shape, but I can still strike a pose when necessary….

That is the Beach Living Paisley Print Bandeau Tunic Swimsuit Top in White Paisley (Petite size 6) and the Beach Living SwimMini with Tummy Control in Solid Black (petite size 8).

The top has optional straps so you can wear it strapless, with one strap making it a halter, with straps over each shoulder (as I have it), or with the straps crisscrossed in back. Lots of versatility. I love that the sides are ruched and adjustable too. Very slimming! Best of all, it has a lightly padded front that both conceals and enhances. It fits great!

The bottom is very fitted and slimming. I received compliments of “Have you lost weight?” and “Wow, you look great for just having had a baby not that long ago!” so I guess the consensus is, it looks pretty good!

BOTH are on sale right now! The top is regularly $59.50 – NOW $20.83. The bottom is regularly $59.50 – NOW $23.80. Sale ends this Tuesday though so you have to hurry!!

Get $20 off $75 or more with coupon code SUNNY and pin 1292

Join Ebates.com and get 6% cash back on your purchases at Lands’ End. Click here to join Ebates and start getting cashback on all your online purchases!

* The product for this review was provided to us free of charge for the purpose of product testing. This does not effect our opinion of the products in any way. We only write about products we personally like and use, regardless of how they were acquired.

Temperatures are heating up, and swimsuit season will be on upon us before you know it! To help you get ready for the summer, 6pm.com is having a one-day sale March 23, 2011 on swimwear. You can nab a suit or two for yourself at up to 80% off, and The Fashionable Housewife has been given a sneak peek at some of the styles you can expect to see tomorrow.

Check out my favorites below (prices quoted may be different the day of the sale.)

Not everyone wants to wear a bikini, which is where this flattering
one piece
comes in! ($44.40) The deep v-neck, gathered strap and chest detailing and easy slip-on design ensures you can sip margaritas by the pool in comfort AND style.

I love the bright colors on this
Split bikini top
($35.) The fiery pattern will definitely heat up the beach when you wear it! Matching
bottoms
are also available and are priced at $29.40 as of this writing.

I think monokinis are super sexy, and
this one
from Split is no exception ($54.60.) This swimsuit features an all-over graphic design; metal D-ring hardware; a halter top tie and closure for an easy fit and comfort, and a cutout design that will certainly turn heads. This just might be one of my favorite swim suits of the season!

This
bikini
features a super-hot print, removable halter strap, hardware detailing and a stretchy fit to make sure you’re comfortable in the waves or lounging on the sand ($34.80.) Matching bottoms are available, including a
super cute skirt style
and range in price from $32.40 to $39.60.

For more modest coverage, this
adorable tankini
will certainly do the trick! ($39.60 for the top.) The deep, rich cobalt color is one of the hottest shades of the season, and the flirty ruffle detailing adds a touch of femininity and fun. Don’t forget to grab a pair of
matching bottoms
to go with it!

Remember ladies, the prices quoted here may change with the sale tomorrow so don’t forget to check it out! Where else are you going to be able to score a super cute swimsuit at up to 80% off? Come back tomorrow and let me know what you grabbed!

The Best 2011 Swimwear for Fashionable Housewives

March 22nd, 2011 by Guest Blogger

Women are a lot like fingerprints – no two are the same. While one housewife may enjoy gardening, an occasional glass of wine and extravagant fashions, another may loath anything with stems, abhors alcohol and would rather play with leaves than pay full price for her clothing. Who is right? The beauty is that in the game of fashion, there are no wrongs, only wrongs for you. And with summer a few short months away, every fashionable housewife will need this summer staple – the swimsuit. Whether you’re into bikinis, tankinis, or one-pieces, there is a style for everyone. Read on to find the best swimsuit for your personality, body type and a few tips to guarantee you’ll be wearing the best fitting swimwear this season.

For the Housewife with a Large Bust

Freya Swimwear: To often women with large breasts must sacrifice support for style. Not anymore! Freya Swimwear is designed for women with D cups and larger and suits run up to a size 40G. The line consists of tankinis, bikinis and one-pieces so you’ll have plenty of options regardless of your coverage style. The best part is the tops run by bra size so you’re guaranteed a great, customized fit. (If you don’t know your size, check out my bra fitting calculator.)

For the Housewife with a Small Bust

Voda Swimwear: The grass always seems greener on the other side. Big busted women want to look smaller and small busted women want more cleavage. Thankfully both can have their cake and eat to it. For the petites, there’s the fabulous Envy collection by Voda Swimwear. These attractive bikinis have special padding that will push your girls up but won’t get heavy when wet. Suits run in small, medium and large and come in four fun colors.

For the Housewife with a Pool Boy

Karla Colletto: Three words. Oh. Em. Gee. This season’s selections are beyond hot, with trendy one-shoulder one pieces to red-hot bandeau bikini tops, this collection will make you want to go to the beach just to rock your new swimwear. The line consists of one-pieces, bikinis and swim skirts and runs in dress sizes so you’re sure to find your best fit.

For the Chic Housewife

Panache Swimwear: Like Freya Swimwear, Panache is for gals with D cups and up who wish to have the utmost support with bra-size bikini and tankini tops. The collection is diverse in its designs and you can either select a solid-color swimsuit or one with a chic print. Suits are supportive and will cover all the right areas.

For the Pregnant Housewife

Anita Swimwear: Anita Swimwear understands what pregnant women want and they design their swimwear accordingly. Comfort, support and a flattering silhouette that won’t constrict baby is the goal of each piece.

Swimwear Fit Tips

    • Your swimwear top should fit as snuggly as a good fitting bra. The snugger the band, the more support your bust will have.
    • If you have a hard-to-fit body type, consider buying your tops and bottoms separately. This way you’ll be able to buy the correct bottom and top size without sacrificing fit or style.
    • For a perfect fit, consider bra sized swimwear. This will provide the most amount of bust support.

If you have any questions, feel free to call my expert bra fit hotline at 1-888-262-4887.

Happy swimwear shopping!

Swimwear Trend: Stylish Pieces to Wear Day and Night

These swimsuits and leather-embellished bag can seamlessly transition to a night setting.

As swimwear materials and techniques evolve, a novel trend has emerged in the designer swimwear world: transitional swimsuits that you can wear at the beach or at the hippest local nightclub (paired with your favorite skirt or pants!) With this new trend, designers are working on silhouettes that are the perfect balance of elegant and edgy, while using the most technologically advanced fabrics. These multifunctional pieces are so stylish that they can double as chic swimwear and the statement piece of a night-out ensemble.

With this trend in mind, Plush Swimwear, an online boutique specialized in designer swimwear, launched a section of its website dedicated to these distinctive pieces, named "After Dark". Plush explains After Dark items cater to the growing upscale clientele segment within the fashion swimwear market: "This highly selective customer is looking for statement pieces in swimwear – those eye-catching items that are unique, of extremely high quality and that can be worn from day-to-night. After Dark is designed to highlight these exceptional items in fashion swimwear for customers who crave the exclusive styles and the versatility of pieces created by renowned designer swimwear labels." Plush revealed some of the most popular items in this category are one piece swimsuits, tunics, caftans, and beach bags and totes from top swimwear designer brands, such as Clube Bossa and Lenny Niemeyer.

To find these pieces, be on the lookout for three criteria: couture swimwear quality, uniqueness in style and versatility of use. These also mean higher price points, but also a long-lasting piece designed to make you feel oh-so-fabulous!

Swimwear 2011 Trends Reveal a Colorful Season

November 9th, 2010 by The Fashionable Housewife

Swimwear 2011 Trends Reveal a Colorful Season

Turquoise, orange and colorful animal prints in the Luli Fama, L-Space and Vix 2011 collections.

The 2011 swimwear season is promising to be a very colorful season, based on what was shown during this year’s Fashion Week Swim in Miami. Plush Swimwear, an online boutique specialized in designer swimwear notes that swimsuits showcased in Miami were mostly vibrant, composed of playful patterns in vivacious palettes for an effect that will be sure to make heads turn next season.

In terms of colors, the swimwear forecast is for lots of vivid blue-green, deep oranges and fuchsia hues. For prints, designers are playing with these intense colors in tribal patterns and animal prints in unusual colors. For example, the brand Luli Fama came up with beautiful designs by using turquoise, raspberry pink and tribal flavors in their bikinis. As seen with other swimwear designers, the hip labels L-Space and Vix Swimwear also utilized burnt orange and animal prints in unique colors in their collections.

Plush Swimwear also points out that texture is key for next swimsuit season. Designers made use of ruffles, embroidery, ruching, sophisticated accents, and more to enhance the look of their swimsuits and make sure they "stand-out". So keep these tips in mind for next bikini season and you’ll be sure to stand out too!
