I love SmartBargains.com because not only can you get the items you missed out on during a Rue La La sample sale but you can get tons of other amazing designer brands at prices you can actually afford.

When looking for a new Fall jacket, I checked out Smart Bargains first. I found the Details Black Cotton Knit Jacket w/Hood and knew it was going to be perfect. It looked like exactly that type of jacket I was looking for.

Their websites says…

Soft black cotton knit jacket with hood from Details. Approximately 27in from shoulder to hem, Long sleeves approximately 27.5in with 5in cuff and tab with button closure.

Rounded neck with hood, five-button center front closure, fixed button straps at both sides of waist with belt loops at waist and two lower front slip pockets along with front and back princess seams. Medium weight.

Shell: 80% cotton, 20% polyester
Lining: 100% polyester

The jacket arrived in just a few days and I was sooooo happy! It fit perfect and it was exactly what I was looking for!!

This jacket is perfect for busy moms. I looked all over the place for a warm comfortable jacket that I could easily move in. I’m carrying a 2 month old who is breastfeeding and I wanted a coat I didn’t have to take off to nurse. This jacket has everything! Soft, moves with your body like your favorite sweatshirt, but looks like a pea coat! I just love this coat and would buy another one in a different color if it were available! Highly recommend!!!!

Fall 2010 Fashion Trends: Wrap Up Your Winter Wardrobe

I know, I know… No one wants to think about the arrival of the Fall let alone the winter but I can’t help but be excited when I see what’s coming down the runway at us for Fall and Winter wear! From the awesome collections or Jill Stuart and Jean Paul Gaultier to the Nordic sweater wraps from Missoni to the updated ski bunny from D&G, there is sure to be more to outerwear than ever before!

Whether you live in the Northeast, like myself, or somewhere as far away as I am from the equator, it is only inevitable we start thinking about looking stylish while also keeping warm… Now if only those Victorian Hand Muffs would come back in style; boy, have I always wanted one of those…. and don’t get me started on the footwear for Fall 2010. Laced up boots, furrrrrrrr lined boots… a combination of the two?

Shopping the Summer Sales: Nordstrom

I’m browsing the summer sales in search of great pieces– the kind that will transition into fall. With significant discounts available at even pricey retailers, it’s possible to shop some splurge-y stores without blowing your budget.

Of course, we all know that shopping sales can be an exercise in patience. It’s often difficult to find the items you want in the size you need, but if it were easy, they wouldn’t be on sale! If you’re up for the challenge, the savings make the extra effort worthwhile.

Today I’m hitting the event many shoppers look forward to all year long: the Nordstrom anniversary sale. This sale is legendary because it features a plethora of discounted items– including many for the upcoming season. Since I’m looking to maximize my savings, I concentrated on pieces that are marked down 50% or more. Here’s what I found along with some quick wardrobing thoughts via Polyvore:

Paperwhite Stretch Cotton Shirt Dress ($168 to $83.90), Jessica Simpson Fit & Flare Trench ($138 to $68.90), Hobo International Pleated Shoulder Bag ($298 to $148.90), Circa Joan & David Darleen Pump ($88.95 to $43.90), and Cara Accessories Animal Print Wide Bangle ($38 to $18.90), shown with patterned scarf and black belt.

The khaki dress is great and can be worn well into the fall. It comes with a fabric belt, which I’d definitely ditch in favor of a more polished option like the one shown above. The Circa Joan & David pumps are timelessly gorgeous- a great buy. The bangle is an affordable statement piece, and the mustard hobo is AWESOME. The orange trench provides a luscious pop of color, and I threw in the scarf to pull it together. Since this is Polyvore fantasy world, the scarf is vintage Hermes, but if I were shopping my real-world closet, I’d go for a less luxurious version of the same idea.

The jacket is the star of this show. I love it styled simply and accented with interesting accessories like the burgundy bag and statement necklace. The Via Spiga boots are a sexy smoky gray color and a smart buy. FYI- the jacket also comes in black if you’re looking for a basic at a great price.

Rain, rain go away! Come again another day! On second thought, don’t come back till Fall. I’ve just about had it with all this rain. It’s only been sunny here in the Northeast for like 3 or 4 days in the last 4 weeks. I’m going stir crazy!!!

I’ve worn my rain boots more in the last month than I have my sandals. That is so unfair! I started to get stumped on what to wear with rain boots, so decided I should put together a few outfit inspirations in case I’m not the only one donning rain boots these days…

Do you have a pair of rain boots, but you can never figure out what to wear them with? Sure they are great for rainy days, but throwing on your rain boots instead of your stilettos might not work…

Here are a few rainy day outfits to help you figure out what to wear your rain boots with!

Red Rainy Day Outfit by thehousewife

You can definitely wear skirts with rain boots. A medium or long trench coat looks great, but don’t bare your legs unless it’s a warm rain. Opaque tights are best, but nylons are acceptable. Build your entire outfit around the rain boots, so it looks like you wore them on purpose, instead of just because you didn’t want to ruin your other shoes. Rain boots give you the chance to create a funky outfit like the red one above!

Sporty Rainy Day Outfit by thehousewife

Tuck skinny jeans into your rain boots and add a splash of color with a bright scarf or handbag. Don’t be too matchy matchy though! Mix it up with an alternate colors of nail polish and eyeshadow for a bold rainy day look!

Circular Scarves – Seen them?

This time of year you would be hard pressed to find me WITHOUT a big cozy scarf around my neck. Not only are they an amazing accessory to have on hand to perk up any outfit; they are just plain warm!

These circular scarves are awesome and they are popping up in all styles and colors these days. Pretty much it is just one big circle of scarf material and then you are free to wrap it as much or as little as you like! They are also called “eternity” or “moibus” scarves… call them what you like – I’m digging them!
