Calling all Fashionable Housewives who are ALSO Fashionable Working Mothers…I saw this Real Simple article posted on a friends Facebook page this morning.  Like you, I’m sure, I struggle daily with which hat I’m wearing and wondering why oh why there aren’t more hours in the day to get done all the things that need tending to.  I loved the message in this article; that a work-life balance may be elusive but it’s not impossible.

In this season of resolutions and goals for the coming year, I encourage you to take 5 minutes (really, only 5 minutes!) and read this article.  It may help you figure out how to juggle a task that seems impossible or get one more thing done today…and it will definitely make you feel good about all that you do!

Last-Minute Christmas: Pajamas from The Children’s Place

December 21st, 2011 by Lucie Amberg

When do you open your Christmas gifts? At our house, we’ve settled into a tradition of opening one gift on Christmas Eve and saving all the rest for the next morning. Since this wasn’t how either my husband or I did it growing up, I’m not sure how we came up with this, but I love it. And for the past few years that Christmas Eve present has been one very specific item– pajamas.

Taking the time to wash everyone’s pajamas before I wrap them means we can wake up Christmas morning wearing our new jammies, so we’re ready for photos as we leisurely (ha!) unwrap our remaining presents.

If you’re looking for cute pajamas for your kids, I highly recommend The Children’s Place. My little guy exclusively wears TCP pajamas, and I’ve found them to be durable, warm, and comfy. Plus, with almost every option under $20 (and some even less than $15 or $10), they make an easy add-on gift. Check out a few options below:

Girls’

Toddler Girls’

Boys’

Toddler Boys’

Infants’

Since there are so many Children’s Place locations, you should be able to find adorable pajamas near you. If– like me –however, you are still scrambling and need something delivered directly to you, Children’sPlace.com is offering guaranteed Christmas delivery for all orders placed by 11 AM ET on 12/23! Even better- orders under $75 ship for just $5, and orders over $75 ship for FREE.

Easy Tricks to MakeYour Life Easier

A friend of mine sent me a link to an Australian website called The Daily Buzz.  There they had posted 25 Clever Ideas to Make Your Life Easier.  Some I had heard of, some were meh, but others were so brilliant I had to re-post for our Fashionable readers.  So, in no particualr order:

Clever ideas: keep a cut apple from going brownVia: athomewithrealfood.blogspot.com

Stop cut apples browning in your child’s lunch box by securing with a rubber band.

Clever idea: stocking over vacuum to pick up lost itemsVia: instructables.com

Gotcha! Find tiny lost items like earrings by putting a stocking over the vacuum hose.

Clever idea: magnetic bobbypin storageVia: sprwmn.blogspot.com

Forever losing your bathroom essentials? Use magnetic strips to store bobby pins (and tweezers and clippers) behind a vanity door

.

Clever ideas: gift wrap storage on cupboard ceilingVia: flickr.com

Look up! Use wire to make a space to store gift wrap rolls against the ceiling, rather than cluttering up the floor.

Stay tuned later this week for some more highlights on fun ways to make everyday food more exciting.

JU-JU-BE’s Commitment to Breast Cancer Awareness

We just finished National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and sadly, too many families are aware of this horrible disease all the time.  If you’re interested in mobilizing your shopping dollars for this worthy cause all year round, you’ll be interested in this:

In Spring 2006, JU-JU-BE started making a donation forevery bag sold and continues to do so today and are committed to keep it going as long as the company is around.   “Thousands of dollars of “Our” money (“our” means “you” plus “us”) goes toward breast cancer initiatives ranging from cure research to providing mammograms for the underprivileged. We’re proud to give back, you should be too!”  From lifestyle bags to diaper and baby bags, JU-JU-BE blends style and function for women on the go.  Framed against classic shapes – totes, hobo, bourse messenger, backpacks, laptop, weekender, carry all and beach, JU-JU-BE offers an array of large and small sized bags, wallets, cosmetic and sun-glass cases.
I’m loving a lot of these looks as diaper bags.  (In fact the middle one below is quite similar to what I’m currently carrying.)  Also keep in mind that especially given the company’s history with breast cancer awareness, the smaller items make great holiday gifts.
Each bag is a bold statement that brings the visual richness and a thoroughly modern context for the fashion forward woman of today.  The line retails from the $20 range for wallets to upwards of $200 for larger sized carryalls.  JU-JU-BE is steadily gaining momentum as the must-have bag for not only fashionistas but also yoga enthusiasts, travelers, and to carry about town.  Currently available in Nordstroms, Von Maur and countless specialty boutiques nationwide as well as on their website:  www.ju-ju-be.com.

Streamlined Travel Tips from Barbara Reich

STREAMLINE YOUR TRAVEL STYLE WITH TIPS FROM ORGANIZATIONAL EXPERT BARBARA REICH

Ladies, I am totally prepping for a cruise with my man (and to his dismay, my family haha) but I totally need to pack with some smarts. I can’t tell you how many time that I have WAY overpacked or WAY underpacked or WAY forgot stuff. This is where organizational expert Barbara Reich comes in… Think, “Hassle Free Travel Prep”.

Barbara has four simple steps to perfect packing. When it comes to planning for a vacation, packing is often last on the list, putting you at risk for forgotten items and unexpected airport setbacks. With tips and tricks from professional organizer Barbara Reich, it’s easy to master the art of travel, become a packing pro and enjoy a perfect trip from start to finish.

1. When packing for a vacation, think light.  New airline regulations levy a charge for suitcases that weigh more than 50 pounds and most charge extra for more than one piece of luggage per person.  If you’ve been accustomed to traveling with large, heavy pieces, invest in some lighter weight canvas/nylon carryalls.

2. Ship all of your toiletries to your destination one week in advance through an online drugstore such as drugstore.com.  If you order enough, you may even qualify for free shipping. You’d be surprised how much your daily beauty essentials can weigh.

3. Don’t pack each family member in his/her own piece of luggage.  If there are four people in your family, pack a fourth of each person’s clothing in each piece of luggage. If luggage is lost or stolen, everyone will have enough to wear until it’s found.

4. Plan your wardrobe around three pair of shoes.  If you can pack one pair of shoes for all of your night time outfits, one pair of shoes for your day time wear and one pair of sneakers, you have simplified and lightened your load.

About Barbara Reich: For Professional Organizer Barbara Reich of Resourceful Consultants, eliminating clutter is a way of life. Barbara tackles organization with a 360-degree approach, streamlining the homes, schedules and daily lives of discerning clients. Equal parts affable and type A personality, Barbara’s tough-love approach yields real results and lasting change.

I don’t know about the 3 pairs of shoes thing, Barbara… but I am willing to give it a try. Do you ladies have any tips or tricks of your own when traveling?

Dr. Scholl’s Shoes Jamie Trainer Sneakers Review

September 27th, 2011 by The Fashionable Housewife

If you haven’t watched my You Tube video introduction of the NEW Dr. Scholl’s Original 2.0 sandals, then you need check it out!

The Dr. Scholl’s Jamie Trainer was the second pair of Fall shoes that Dr. Scholl’s asked me to review.

I’m a mother of 2 young children, but to be honest, I’m not much of a sneaker gal. I like comfortable shoes but I don’t usually want to LOOK like I’m comfortable… Afterall I’m The Fashionable Housewife! lol

Well, I was a little hesitant to try these on when I saw the picture on the outside of the box. Once I opened the box though and actually took them out and looked at them, I warmed right up!

They look a lot like Converse sneakers but are WAY more comfortable! I almost died… I could not believe how soft, supple, squishy and ultimately comfortable these sneakers were! Can I wear these to bed? Seriously!!!! I haven’t even felt slippers this comfortable….

Description:

  • Canvas upper in an athletic sneaker style with a round toe
  • Free Step(TM) minimalist construction creates a natural foot strike
  • Lace-up front, side medial eyelets
  • Neoprene stretch collar
  • Seamless Dri-Lex(R) lining wicks moisture away
  • Aegis Microbe Shield(R) controls odor
  • Removable insole with Dr. Scholl’s(R) Massaging Gel
  • Traction outsole, flat heel

It’s got to be those Dr. Scholl’s Massaging Gel Insoles ($19) that make them so gosh darn comfy…. The sole is super flexible which made me want to dance in them all day. No break-in period required with these! Though, keep in mind these do not have arch support so if you feel you really need arch support you might want to get a different insole for these. They have removable gel insoles so they can easily be switched out.

I wore these to a Labor Day party and I had them on for about 9 or 10 hours. This was my first day wearing them and I had no blisters, no discomfort, just pure squishy bliss all day long. I wore them with PowerSox CoolMax No Show Socks which was a great combo but you really don’t have to wear socks with the Jamie Trainer since they have such a comfy lining.

These sneakers SLIP ON. Super convenient for busy moms or when traveling (going through airport security, roadtrips, etc). The laces are just aesthetic to make them look like a sporty sneaker, although they will tighten a bit if you need them to be a bit more snug. I have wide feet and I buy wide width whenever available. I found these fit me quite well so if you have narrow feet, you may find that these might be too wide for you. This could be remedied by wearing thicker socks though as far as fit goes.

If you are thinking of getting a pair of Converse sneakers, STOP! Try these first! So much cuter and miles more comfortable! You’ll never want to wear any other shoes ever again! They are hands-down the most comfortable sneakers I have ever worn.

They come in lots of great color combos. Here are a few of my favorites…

Mamatini – The Drink for Breastfeeding Moms That Helps Increase Milk Supply

September 2nd, 2011 by The Fashionable Housewife

If you are a mom or a mom-to-be you’re going to want to read this post!

With my first child, I had a really bad experience with breastfeeding. I persevered for 17 months, but ultimately I had to stop due to many factors including low milk supply, plugged ducts, a lot of pain due to poor latch and a couple run-ins with Mastitis to name a few. When I became pregnant with my second, I was terrified I was going to have a horrible experience nursing again. I wasn’t going to give up though…

I was pretty excited when Mamatini contacted me a couple months before my due date and asked me to review their organic herbal tea that promised to increase milk supply. A low milk supply was one of the biggest problems I had last time around, so I was really excited to try Mamatini.

Mamatini™ is an all-natural, organic herbal infusion that was created with your specific needs in mind. You realize that breastfeeding your baby is the best way to ensure that your child receives the most perfect nutrition and immunity-building proteins during his or her first year of life. You know that the experience of breastfeeding will bond you and your baby more than anything else you will do together. Mamatini will help you breastfeed better by boosting milk supply, increasing your energy and increasing your ability to absorb and retain critical nutrients your body is using to produce milk for your baby.

Mamatini was created by a pediatrician to help mothers like you breastfeed better, easier, and for longer. So drink to your baby’s good health, and Drink Mamatini™!

Their proprietary formula:

  • Is pediatrician designed and approved
  • Contains herbs used for centuries to increase milk supply
  • Helps your body absorb and retain vitamins and minerals depleted during pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Can help relieve baby’s colic symptoms
  • Provides the energy you need for motherhood
  • Tastes delicious! Try our all-natural and refreshing lemon flavor made with organic ginger.

I drank my first bottle of Mamatini while I was in labor and my second bottle within 3 hours of giving birth. It was one of the first things I could stomach after my intense and rapid labor and delivery. (4 hours of labor and 2 pushes!) I labored and gave birth at home, in a birthing tub with no medication or drugs. It was a beautiful experience being at home where I was comfortable and with my family. And it was wonderful to have my hubby bring me a nice cold bottle of Mamatini as I laid in our king size bed with our new little muffin. :-)

I love the flavor – ginger lemon. It’s a very mild tea-like flavor that you’ll adore. It tastes so refreshing ice cold!

Anyone with breastfeeding experience knows it usually takes 36-48 hours for your milk to “come in” after giving birth. My milk came in within 24 hours after drinking 3 bottles of Mamatini, which really surprised and delighted me!

It took me about a week to drink the entire case (12 bottles) of Mamatini. I noticed a plentiful supply of breastmilk which made nursing my new baby a completely different experience. He was able to latch on really well and I was able to relax because I knew he was getting nourished. His birth weight was 8.5lbs and he went right back to his birth weight within 4 days of being born and has been gaining a pound a week since then.

Mamatini made a huge difference in my new baby too. He didn’t have any symptoms of colic at all and slept peacefully and for several hours at a time from day one. Just a completely different experience from my first child and I attribute a lot of it to Mamatini.

I believe that Mamatini helped me so much, that I purchased an entire case of it as soon as I finished the first case I was sent to review. I didn’t want to go one day without it!

Mamatini was on backorder for several months and I was unable to order more. I’ll tell ya, I definitely noticed my milk supply decrease and my normally content and peaceful baby was suddenly getting fussy, had occasional indigestion and wasn’t sleeping quite as well anymore. To me, that was proof that Mamatini is absolutely essential and worth every penny….

I was so glad when Mamatini was finally back in stock and I could get more! Hallelujah!!!!
