October 27th, 2011 by Amanda Davis

We don’t normally opt for an uber sexy eye but when we do, we want to go all out! Enter Amanda Seyfried’s super sexy and sassy eye makeup and neutral lip that she rocked recently.

She’s got an ultra-thin ring of black eyeliner (you’d need a freshly sharpened pencil for this one), a lovely copper eyeshadow all over her lids and under her eyes and just a hint of pinky purple in a line right above her upper lashline that gives her eyes a really cool shot of color. It’s interesting without being gaudy.

What will you need?

Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner in Black, $4.99, Stila Copper Eye Shadow, $18.00, Maybelline Eye Studio Shadow Quad in Legendary Lilac, $7.94, CoverGirl Lashblast Fusion Mascara in Very Black, $7.99

COVERGIRL’s Seasonal Looks, Poolside Polish

July 14th, 2011 by Amanda Davis

COVERGIRL does nothing short of looking out for the everyday gal. Not only do they offer super affordable cosmetics but I have recently found makeup looks on their site. Lounge in style with this simple yet stunning look, featuring big, water resistant lashes and a soft lip shine. P&G Beauty Global Creative Design Director Pat McGrath’s created this makeup look inspired by the NatureLuxe Collection, which is one of COVERGIRL’s latest ventures. (Think of all those Taylor Swift ads you have been seeing).

Want to try this yourself? These tips are straight from COVERGIRL

  • Perfect skin with NatureLuxe Silk Foundation with SPF 10. Apply a small amount to the center of your face and blend outward toward the hairline.
  • Swipe Cheekers blush in Rose Silk along the cheekbone, from the apple of the cheek to eye height.
  • Apply the lighter, rounded tip, shade of SmokyShadowBlast in Bronze Fire to the eyelid, starting at the lashline and blending upward.
  • Apply two coats of NatureLuxe Mousse Mascara in Rich Black to the top lashes only.
  • Apply NatureLuxe Gloss Balm in Marble throughout the day. The SPF 15 and mango butter will keep lips protected and soft.

Easy Dramatic Eye Makeup Idea, “Cat Eyes” with Eyeshadow

Va Va Voom and with little effort? Yes, please! We love Ashlee Simpson’s dramatic, look at me “Cat Eye” look. What’s even more fun about it? Ummm, she didn’t use liner to create it. She used, gasp, eyeshadow!  To any man per chance reading this post, we apologize for our dramatic attitude towards eye make-up…. oh wait, we shouldn’t apologize for being fabulous!

Straight from Glamour.com we get some tips on how to create this look for our next festive night on the town: There are a couple of ways to go about this. The first is to draw the line with eyeliner, then use a crease brush (an eye shadow brush that comes to a soft point) and carefully draw on top of the swoosh. But if you want a thinner line, you need an eyeliner brush–preferably the pointy kind as opposed to the flat type. You just wet it a little first, load it up with shadow and draw a curved little line coming out of your outer corners.

Sound tricky? Well, it can be when it comes to getting both sides even, but these tips should help. Got some recommendations of getting fierce makeup? Share with us, gals. Sharing is caring!

5 Steps to the Perfect Smokey Eyes

March 26th, 2011 by Denise Shively

The smokey eye trend will never die, but I’m amazed how many women still don’t feel confident trying it for a night out. With the right technique, you can pull off this look beautifully in just 5 steps.

You’ll Need:

An eyeshadow primer (I like Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer)

Eyeliner (find one with a smudge stick on the end, or have a separate smudging tool available)

2 eyeshadow shades (one dark, one light – in complementary tones) CoverGirl Smoky Shadow Blast Shadow Stick in Onyx Smoke (pictured) offers the easiest way to rock the smokey eye look!

Mascara

Directions:

Step 1: Prep your lids with the shadow primer; this allows for eyeshadow to glide on smoothly and have a base to adhere to so it won’t crease or fade throughout the day. If you don’t have shadow primer, you can use a dab of your regular concealer in a pinch!

Step 2: Once primer has dried, use your eyeliner to line above the upper lash line. Make sure to follow your lashes as closely as possible, but make the line a bit thicker in the middle. For the bottom lash line, draw a thin line and smudge, smudge, smudge!

Step 3: Now comes the eyeshadow. Using the lighter color as your base, sweep the shade over your lids and up to the browbone. I love the CoverGirl product mentioned above; any of the shades you choose are perfect for creating a unique smokey eye.

Step 4: For the darker shade, apply color starting at your lash line and blending upwards – don’t put dark color above the crease, though! The trick here is to blend, blend and blend again to get the desired smokey eye affect without looking like you have two black eyes. As you’re blending, make sure you’re blending deep into the lash line so the eyeliner you applied earlier all but disappears.

Step 5: Finish with two coats of mascara (curl your lashes first, if desired) and voila! The perfect 5 step smokey eyes are yours! Use a Q-tip to clean up any spots or blend any excess product.

While the smokey eye look can be intimidating, as long as you blend (and blend well!) you can pull off this look with ease. Additionally, keep the rest of your makeup neutral to avoid competing with your strong eyes. Remember, practice makes perfect – so keep trying if you don’t nail it the first time.

If you try these tips, let me know how it works for you! Also, feel free to leave your tips for the perfect smokey eye in the comments below.
